Supergoat and Batgoat

September 7th, 2014

Another lovely week with the goat babies. You just know every time you go see them you’ll have a fun and sweet time. It never fails. They are really wonderful.

They have gotten their official names now. The kids at the playground drew up a list of possible names that I was supposed to pick from. But the list was kind of disorganized and silly. Nina asked if I had any ideas. And I did. So now they are called… Bruce and Clark. Like Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. My little superheroes. Or Bruce Lee and Clark Gable. Or something else. People seem to like the names, although I did have second thoughts after picking them. Especially regarding how well or not they fit with the other names in the family. But a baby goat by any other name would still be as adorable. And I love my little superguys.

Bruce is the big one. He is fearless and all over the place. A bundle of energy. Mild mannered Clark, who still looks just like his mother, is a little more reserved. Still a little uncertain and more subdued. I have been trying to pick him up and handle him more so he gets more confident with everything. And he’s getting the hang of things well enough. Sweet little guy. Not shy about bugging his brother when they’re playfighting. Little rascals. Never a quiet moment. Until naptime.

The good weather has continued. Fair bit of sunshine. I’m so glad we got some post-summer warmth, after summer officially ended. August was unseasonably cold. I think that may be why I haven’t been able to get good Danish tomatoes this week. Only the imported kind which aren’t as good and are more expensive to boot. My diet is largely based on eating lots of tomatoes because I love them and they’re not bad calorie wise. So the lack of good tomatoes is a bit of a problem. I’m hoping now we’ve had the sun back for a while that the good tomatoes will come back as well. So I can wait a little before I have to figure out what to eat instead. The imported ones just don’t cut it. I am the tomato monster.

I have had an old inflatable exercise ball lying around in my apartment for years. Got it in some set of exercise equipment bought. Barely used it at all ever. So I thought I’d bring it to the goat pen. I had seen videos on youtube of goats having fun with those kind of balls. But on the other hand I knew from experience that our goats often seem to be scared of balls. So I wasn’t sure how it would go. I was hoping to get to see the babies play with it. But no luck. The whole herd fled to the other side of the pen in utter terror and alarm. The babies didn’t seem really scared of it, but they followed the cue of mama Mio who was very concerned. She kept snorting at it. I lured some of them over with peanuts to try to get them to feel more comfortable with the presence of it, but Mio was just agitated. So I had to deflate it. Too bad. I think I’ll try bringing it again in a month or two. When the kids will be bigger and Mio might feel a little safer about everything. And the kids feel more independent. They are already quite curious. I bet they would have a lot of fun bouncing it around. We’ll give it another chance then.

For now, here are too many goat pictures:

And a couple of goatlogs. With tons of baby goat fun. The exercise ball. Mia’s continued escapes from the pen. She discovered she could climb the pile of branches and jump the fence from there. And Palle followed. I kept rearranging the branches but every time I thought I’d got it so she couldn’t escape… she did it again. Eventually I had to put her inside on a timeout.

And why not just baby goat slomo yawns?

And that’s all for this week, folks. See you in the next one.

Adorable R Us

August 31st, 2014

It’s been a lovely week. There’s really not that much to say about it. Other than. You know. Baby goats. I have spent as much time as possible with them. And it has been a lot of fun. Seeing them get out in the pen. First hesitant steps. Followed by many more fast and furious steps of exploration and adventure. Followed by long naps curled up in my lap after tiring themselves out. I love spending the day with them.

And they’re both doing great. Even the little guy is growing. The big guy is still the most lively one, but it’s a close call. Oh they’re going to get in so much trouble. Little rascals. It’s great that there are two, so they can play together. Even though it’s better to have girls it’s still so cute seeing two brothers getting up to no good. They have already started playmounting each other. And the big guy has started pushing his head against my leg as if trying to push me. Most of the time he just jumps up against my leg. Or the wall. Or whatever else he can get at. He loves jumping up against things.

The other goats have started paying more attention to the little ones. Mostly swatting them away when they get too close. Palle can obviously sense that they are new little buckly competitors for the baby crown. He will try to ram them sometimes. Herman seems the most curious about them, almost like he keeps coming back to check on them. He’s mostly sweet to them. Apart from that one time he chased them out in the rain. But they’re handling themselves very well. And mommy is always close by for protection if the situation gets a little sticky.

And I think that’s it. Let’s just proceed with a million pictures.

Taking Mia’s spot on the bench! Doesn’t quite fill it out as much, though.

And as if that wasn’t enough, a couple of goatlogs.
The first one with the kids’ first steps outside. The second one with their first time in the rain. And both of them with so much cute and fun. They’re long, but what can you do. I can’t bear to edit all the lovely out of them.

And that’s all for this time, folks. Pretty sure there’ll be more next week. Pretty, pretty sure.
