When It Snows It Pours

November 29th, 2010

Brrrrrr.
It’s been a cold day. Lots and lots of snow covering little old Denmark.

And little old me had to go out in it. The snow, as it were. I had a doctor’s appointment. For diabetes blood test. So I had to go climbing snowmountains. It’s not a lot of fun. It’s not a lot of fun at all to walk around in the snow when you can barely see. I tell you that. But my dad came along to help me and I had my cane. I managed to not fall and break my leg. Can’t complain.

And the blood test was quickly done. No worries. The nurse said that she wanted to do the big yearly test and then I should come back in a week and talk to the doc about the results. I asked if we couldn’t do the yearly one next time I come in, in March. Hopefully by then the snow will be gone and it will be less hassle for me to go downtown. She agreed to it, and we just did the small quarterly test. Which I will get the result of in my emailbox. Much, much easier. That was quite nice. I really want to go outside as little as possible in this weather. I have a hospital appointment in a week and a half, for the secondary cataracts, but other than that my schedule is empty for the rest of the year I think.

The nurse was very nice all in all. She remembers me, asked how I was doing and so on. She asked me if I had lost weight. She thought so. I’m not sure, she doesn’t see me very often so I wouldn’t trust her on it. But it’s always a nice thing to hear anyway.

Since I was already outside and dressed up in warm clothes, I thought I might as well take the chance to go see the goats as well. And so I did. I sort of toyed with the idea of going out back and sitting on the bench with them. Despite the horrible cold, I was sort of looking forward to seeing them outside in the snow. But as it were, when I got there they were inside and the hatch was closed. They quite possibly were snowed in. In any case, I had to settle for staying inside with them. On the bright side that was of course a lot less cold. Out of the bitterstrong wind. Some of the birds were inside too. What are they, budgies? Canaries? I’m not sure. Little tweeting things. They’re usually outside in the cage up against the goat house. But they’d been brought inside, in a cage next to the goat pen. Shielded from wind. The wind is much too cold for fragile, little things like birds. And Plumes.

I didn’t stay too long. Even inside it was still very cold. Even so, a family came by. A couple of kids with grandparents. They fed some carrots to the goats, and the goats were very appreciative. I don’t think they get too much company when they’re snowed in. Not many visitors. When I left they baahed and baahed. “Doooon’t leave uuuus”. They sure know how to make me feel guilty!

When I came home I took a good, long, hot shower. I wonder how much it would cost me if I stayed in there all day? A 24 hour warm shower sounds pretty good to me right now.

Turkleton

November 25th, 2010

Merry thanksgiving, to whom it may apply. In Denmark, of course, we do not have thanksgiving. But I thought I would take the opportunity to say what I am thankful for anyway. In in the spirit of positivity.

Here goes.

I am thankful for my family, friends and goats. My family for being so supportive in the hard times I’ve been through. My online friends for putting up with my crap and being nice and supportive as well. And the goats for being, well for being goats. What more could I ask for?

I am thankful for the little improvements here and there. Since the last eye surgery. That I can walk around outside without using my cane. That I can sitll operate my computer and do most of the things I need to do in my everyday life. I am thankful that I have gotten the CCTV and other devices to help me.

I am thankful that I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to pee anymore. I used to have to do that for as long as I can remember, but now that my diabetes is in check I don’t have to anymore. And I am thankful that the antihistamines have helped unblock my nose at night. Thankful that my financial situation is good and that I have most everything I need. Thankful that I have gotten so much help from doctors and nurses and foor therapists and just the health care in general. I am thankful that my back has gotten a little better with the exercises I have been doing. That I can now walk all he way to the playground without hurting.

Most of all I am thankful that I am not completely blind.

Yup, that’s about all I can think of right now. I’m sure there are some I have missed. But it’s always better to try to think of the good things, and not the negatives. That’s what I like about Thanksgiving, compared to so many other holidays.

Sucks for the turkeys though.
