Well, to be completely honest with you it’s not that tall. It’s quite short actually. I did laundry, it went fine. That’s pretty much it.

Even the picture is boring!

S’more details: I was a little nervous about how to sort the clothes properly, how many degrees to wash them in etc. But I looked around on the net to brush up on it before I went to the laundry room and that made me feel somewhat more secure about it all. So I went and popped all the clothes in the machines. Put in soap. My net-readings had lead me to conclude that I didn’t actually need liquid soap at all. So I only used washing powder, or whatever it’s called. Once the machines got started I went to the shopping center around the corner and bought some supplies for the weekend. Also stopped by the library and picked up The Silmarillion which I had on order. I went back home and dropped it all off. Then went back to the laundry room. Emptied the machines and stuffed everything in the dryer. Then I sat down and read some Unfinished Tales while I waited for that to get done. A bloke stopped by and started doing his laundry. We exchanged friendly helloes, but other than that there was nothing to it. And when my clothes were dry I bunged ’em in my plastic box and went back home. Job done! I think I may have used a little too much soap powder though. At night I had to peel off the blanket covers because they smelled a bit too soapy. Maybe I’m just not used to fresh and clean laundry! Hehe. Anyway, I think next time I’ll use a little less soap. And maybe leave the clothes in the dryer for a teeny bit longer. But other than that I am just happy that I have done this. I know doing your own laundry is a tiny little thing that everyone can and should do and it’s nothing to worry about etcetera. It’s nothing to be proud of. But on the other hand, I have lived for so long without actually taking care of things myself. Every little thing that I can do on my own feels like a little accomplishment. It all comes back to that nice thought: “I am not a complete failure”. I like that thought. Because it’s contrary to how I have felt about myself for so long.

Go me!

By the way, here is my appartment block seen from quite a long way away:

On the left. Fascinating, I’m sure you’ll agree.

I got a nice note from “brooks” leading me to the unplugged version of Bryan Adam’s heaven. And now I would like to lead you to it too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD-bRMHVfsw. I just think that song is wonderful, I can’t help it. It’s funny, my relationship with Bryan Adams. I have a feeling that it’s not very hip to like him. I think one of the first cassette tapes I ever bought was a Bryan Adams tape. I was really into him for quite some time. Then he did a duet with a Spice Girl. And I stopped liking him. Around the “18 Till I Die” song as well. That pretty much encompassed my feelings about him then, he was trying to be young and hip and top of the MTV charts and I got very bored with him. But there’s a handful of his earlier songs that really are deeply connected to parts of my childhood/teens. I’m sure you know the feeling, there are some songs that just come to define you. Like smells that bring out memories.

I always loved the lines “standing on your mama’s porch, you told me that you’d wait forever, oh and when you held my hand, I knew that it was now or never, those were the best days of my life”. From Summer of ’69. They always make me feel a little sentimental. Thinking of memories I don’t have. Wanting to stand on my sweetheart’s porch. Instead of just riding by on my bicycle. I never got to hold her hand

But enough about Bryan Adams and my troubled teens. Today I watched the third Pirates of the Carribooan movie. Fun stuff. You know, everyone is raving about Johnny Depp. I think we all know who the real star of that movie is though. That’s right, the goat. If you don’t know the goat then you can’t have seen the movie. Because the goat totally steals the picture. Witness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrN76peNjuA. The goats are taking over Hollywood, it’s true.

All hail the glory of the goats.

Okay, so the tall tale of the laundry.
