Yesterday I had both my parents over at the apartment. That is a rare thing indeed. My dad visits all the time. He brings me papers and stuff. Gets a cup of tea. But my mom visits less often. And both of them together that’s only happened a couple of times I think. So what was the occasion? A lamp. My mother likes to knit. Or crochet. Possibly both. And she wanted to make lampshades for me. And I happen to have no lamps out in my hallway. There’s no light out there. It hasn’t really been a problem. But my mother offered me a set of lamps with homemade lampshades and I accepted. And today my dad was going to drill holes in the wall so we could put them up.<\/p>\n
It did not go so well. My dad had bought a drill but he didn’t think it was necessary to read the manual before using it. So basically he tried to drill in concrete with the drilling setting used for drilling in wood. You can imagine he didn’t get very far. Into the wall. I was smart enough to suggest looking in the manual. And once the drill was set to the correct setting the drilling went a little easier. But still not too well. Eventually my dad had to give up, it just wasn’t working out properly. So now I have some random holes in the wall and no lamps. But my dad said he’d get an electrician to do it. So we’ll see how that goes. It means more strangers in my apartment, more waiting. I’m not too thrilled about all that. But eventually there will be light I guess. And eventually my windows will be fixed probably. Everything works out, in the end. I hope.<\/p>\n
