Once upon a time (November 12th 2001 more precisely) I saw this ad in the paper:
A Samsung Digimax 130.
I promptly went and bought it.
A handy little camera. Not a particularily good one though.
Only 2x digital zoom. 1.3 megapixels. I can't believe I paid that much for it.
But I had many good times with it. And it got me started on the photography path.
You never forget your first time.
On February 19th 2003 I purchased a Praktica DCZ 2.2.
3x optical zoom, 2.1 megapixels. And the ability to make video clips.
Not a brilliant camera by any means, but a definite improvement.
My first real steps into being serious about photography.
And making avi videos kept me entertained for ages.
On June 1st 2004 I got myself an Olympus C-725 UZ.
UZ is for Ultra Zoom. 8x optical zoom. 3 megapixels.
Its video function was disappointing. But I have been quite happy
with the pictures I have taken with it.
And I still use the camera to this date.
May 23rd 2005 I bought my latest and greatest. A Konica Minolta DiMage Z3.
The main attraction was the 12x zoom. I love me some zoom.
A great video function, anti-shake magic and 4 megapixels didn't hurt either.
Unfortunately this camera is currently at the repair shop. Hopefully it will be back soon.
August 24th 2005 I got a Konica Minolta DiMage Z5.
Long story short:
My Z3 broke after a month. Two months later the Z5 had dropped in price.
It's basically the same as the Z5, only 5 megapixels instead of 4.
Hopefully this one will last a longly long time.
It lasted till September 14th 2007
I am back with Olympus. The SP-550UZ to be precise. UZ still stands for Ultra Zoom.
18x zoom! From the moment I read about it, I knew I wanted it.
And when my DiMage started having focusing problems
I knew it was time. And now it's mine. 18x zoom, 7 megapixels. Another step upwards. Will this be my last camera? Who knows.
