Old computers: May I introduce you to my (new) computer? It arrived on July 13th 2006. No picture yet, it doesn't look too interesting anyway. But here are some specs: AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 3500+ Venice CPU 2 gb DDR 400 ram GEFORCE 7600GT, 256mb ddr3 300 gb hard drive (+80 gb external hard drive) 19" flatscreen monitor. Not too shabby for the price I paid. ... My old computer (still in use):
It's an eMachines 5255 with a 2.93GHz Pentium 4 CPU. 1 GB of Ram. 250 GB hard drive. It's a beauty. I have previously had an Amitech and a Fujitsu Siemens PC. In older days I had a custom built 486 PC which was state of the art at the time. I earned the envy of all my friends. Before that I had an Amiga 500 (still have one of those) and even earlier I had a Commodore 64. That was my first computer. I can still vividly remember driving with my dad to go look at it. We had seen an ad in the paper and decided to go check it out. Driving at night with all the excitement hard to contain. It was a used one and it probably cost as much as the Amiga did when I bought that one. I bought it after my "konfirmation" with my gift money. I decided to get my first PC after seeing Ultima 7: Serpent Isle at my friend's house. I bought my next PC around the time Ultima 9 came out. With internet access. What a revolution. That was when Windows 98 was the standard. When we got the Amitech it was time for the slick Windows XP. Unfortunately the Amitech PC only survived a couple of years. But it was a welcome excuse to get this sweet machine that I'm sitting at now. Hopefully it will be a while before I have to invest in new machinery again. |
