Good goat times today. It warmed up a little. Up to 8C/41F. That makes a big difference, even though there was a harsh wind in the morning.
I was out early again. The goats were still in bed when I arrived. I slid the door open and was happy to see Sky sitting inside and Bella standing next to her. I thought Bella was sitting next to her actually, but looking at pics I took I think she was standing. I wonder if they were sitting next to each other before I opened the door. Luna was sitting in the bedroom with the hay. But it’s just good to see Sky inside with them, I was worried she might end up not being able to be inside with them. Hopefully they all get along more smoothly when not competing for treats and attention from me. At least they seem to be at peace at night.
Later on Red Sonja came out and joined us, which was nice as well. Jeanette checked with me how long I’d be there, because she had to go off and do shopping for things, so she wanted to make sure I’d be around so Sonja could stay out and not be left unattended.
And then the sun started rising and it was quite lovely. Several groups of visitors, lots of kids in the pen petting the goats. A couple laughing because “kaka is coming out of its butt”. Heehee. Lots of cuddles for the goats.
Yeah, a lovely day. Now i’m going to get soup to finish it in style. That’s the stuff.

I couldn’t get a good pic, it was so dark that my flash didn’t even want to go off. But here’s Sky and Bella in the morning. I wonder if Bella was sitting next to Sky. Probably she was sitting on the platform in the back. But I’m just happy Sky was sitting inside with the group.

Hanging with Bella.
I had a pretty good back day today, least back pain in a long time. I hope it’s a sign that things are getting better, but I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up.
We got a good deal of sun today, so I brought both pairs of filter glasses to try to compare. I think the new ones are actually better in sunshine too. My initial impression that they were worse in sharp sunlight seems to have been wrong. And I can definitely see clearer with the, other than with closeup text. But all in all it seems the new filter glasses are an improvement, and the ones for computer use are a big help, so that’s all good.
Bella says, shut up and give me a treat.

Got an hour and a half on the bike today. The one minute intervals didn’t kick my ass as much as previously. I guess I’m getting fitter. Fitter happier more productive comfortable not drinking too much regular exercise at the gym three days a week getting on better with your assoc sssorry I’m like a detuned radio, head.
Anyway. I’m determine to get fat for christmas otherwise I’ll have nothing to resolute at new years.

Good goat times today. It was a rainy one. Steady rain all day, pretty much. It was a stay inside kinda day. And working hard to make sure Sky could stay dry. When I got there all three were inside together, which was good to see. But as soon as I got there, Sky got chased out. Once there’s treats and attention to fight for, the dominance games start.
But Sky had a good spot under the shelter roof when she was outside. Kept her dry. And eventually she came back inside. She even got to take a little nap, lying in the hay by the hatch opening.
Sweet visitors today, our regular groups from the neighbouring school. The visually impaired girl Beren. She’s always very polite. “I can pet?” “I can come inside?”. She’s so sweet, and loves petting and feeding the goats.
One of their adults came over too, wanted to make sure she wished me a merry christmas, since they won’t be back until after the holidays. She’s always really nice too, very sweet and complimentary to me. I appreciate their kindness.
I think Jeanette got the campfire going for them, and they were singing christmas songs. So that was jolly good fun.
Then I came home and did an hour on the bike. Phew. Always challenging to do goating and exercise on the same day, but feels good.
Now I’m gonna give it on up for Soupville.

On a brighter note, let’s me talk about something I love instead.
I love Skeleton Crew, the new Star Wars show. I had zero excitement for it, it seemed like something I was barely interested in. Because it seemed like its own thing with no real relevance to the sage.
And that’s exactly what I’m loving about it. I didn’t realise how much I need some good old fashioned fun without deep consequences to the saga, without canon implications and characters that have been building for a decades.
Just fun. And yes, it’s somewhat manipulative, it’s Goonies In Space, it’s aimed at kids. But it works. It oes it so well. It’s so enjoyable. It remins me of the original Star Wars movies, without so much baggage and just designed to excite kids and young people.
If I ha been a teenager today I would have loved Skeleton Crew sooo much. And even as an adult I still do. It’s so nice to just sit down and enjoy Star Wars.
The kids are great, I love Neel. Lil elephunt boiii. And SM-33. Smee! The pirate stuff is fun, maybe sometimes a little on the nose. But still, fun. That Teek thing from teh Ewoks movies. I LOVED the Ewoks movies, I know they’re sheet, but I love them. I so wanted to crashland a spaceship and have adventures with Ewoks.
Yeah. Halfway through, two thumbs up from me.
Also two thumbs up for Matlock. I could have done without the Matlock branding, but I love the show. I wouldn’t mind if they finished the revenge arc and had Mattie realise that she can do a ton of good by continuing her law work and then just have her do case-of-the-week episodes. That’s my dream. More Kathy Bates please.
Finished Murakami’s The City And Its Uncertain Walls. I didn’t love it as much as I had hoped, I was so excited for a new Murakami book. I found it hard to get engaged with it at first. I was about halfway through when I really started feeling it. Getting into that Murakami mood. By the end I didn’t want it to end, so all in all I liked it. Bht not my favourite of his.
Now I’m reading a Star Wars book, because I’m a Star Wars fan after all. A new Mace Windu book. It’s pretty good, harmless entertainment so far. Mace was always cool.
I watched Dune. The old David Lynch one. I managed to get through it. Haha. I watched the extended versino, three hours. Way too long, and yet not long enough. It was a bit of a clumsy mess, aslog to get through at times. But it was also weird and fascinating and cool. Maybe it’s just because I’m a David Lynch fanboy, but I couldn’t help kind of loving it. Even if it was directed by Alan Smithee. The souper must awaken! The soup must flow! He who controls the soup controls the universe! And so on.

Got a Pepsi & Protein delivery today. And I finally got a B & J! Going to enjoy some Ben and or Jerry’s tonight, save the rest for Christmas eve I think. Good goat times today. Cold cold cold. Down around 2C/35F but with a cold wind that made it feel even colder. Brrr. I am thankful for the neckroll that Carine sent me, it’s so warm and comfy. Way better than the little fallingapart half-scarf I used to use. The neckroller is perfect. A couple of times I was pulling it all the way up to under my nose to get warm. I don’t think it’s meant to be worn like that!
And I know it’s not called a neckroller. Jeanette called it a “halsedisse”. Funny in all my years on this planet, I have never heard that word before. I went to the google translate to see what the English word for it would be. Google said the English translation was … “neck dissection”. Ehm. Ok. Apparently it’s called a neck gaiter. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before. I don’t think I’ve seen one before either. But i’m glad I have one now.
A couple of the other presents got some use too, but I’ll show that later.
The goats were separated again when I got there, with the goat closed. And the chickens in their caged pen. I wish it didn’t have to be like that.
But it was a good day with the goaties, despite the cold. I think Luna may have been a little in heat again. Not quite as hilariously snorting as last time, but some snorts and grunts. And at one point she peed in the grass and then turned around to sniff at it. If you know goats you know what’s coming next. That upturned lip curl, the flehmen face. Looks so ridiculous.
Now it’s time for some hot soup action aw yeah.

I brought it today and asked Jeanette if it would be okay if I put it up. I had brought some wire stuff that I thought i’d use to hang it up. Jeanette went , no no I’ll get a hammer. And she immediately went and nailed it to the fence.
So now there should be no more problems of the goats talking their way out of the pen!

It’s starting to get real muddy. Jeanette suggested maybe we should get one of the pavement tiles and put it out in front of the hatch to help the goats avoid the mud. But then we realised that we kind of need the pavement tiles inside, because they’re on top of pallets, and we wouldn’t want the pallets with their gaps exposed. So that idea was nixed. But then i remembered the plywood board. I had moved it up closer to the goat house a while back, and there it’s been sitting since. it’s kind of broken into two parts. So I took the smallest part and moved it over to the hatch. It’s not perfect, it’s a little slipperier than the pavement tiles, and doesn’t have the hoof grinding qualities that the pavement has. But. It’s better than the mud, I think. And the goats seemed happy enough to have it there to help them get out without stepping in mud. Here’s Luna checking it out.

Got an hour and a haff on the bike today. Another good groove effort. Phew. Did more of the one minute intervals. They still kick my ash. But I enjoy the strain and exertion. But enough about my sex life.
No but it feels good to be back on the bike and working hard. I put on a few pounds, but now I’ve dropped a few again. Enough that I feel I can relax a little over the holidays. Maybe partake in a pizza or two. Amongst the soup days.
Oh and I’m really happy with my new glasses. The ones I use at home really are a help. They don’t fix everything, but they definitely make things a little easier. The filter glasses for outdoor use I’m still a little on the fence about, but on dark days they are working. And most days are dark these days. But enough about my mental health.
And so on so pillow fort.

Oh yeah, Jeanette fixed the platform inside. Well, sort of. Didn’t occur to me that instead of raising the right side, we could perhaps lower the left side. So now it’s no longer slanting. The downside is that it’s a lot lower, closer to the ground. It was nicer when it was up higher. But it’s still off the ground, and you know goats. If it’s a tiny bit off the ground then it’s a mountain and must be climbed. Like this it will be better to sit and sleep on. Although I doubt Bella will be able to reach the hay on the storage shelf above anymore.
This height probably suits Sky better though, she’s more gravitationally challenged. I feel ya girl.

Good goat times today. Cold, of course. Down to 2C/35F brrr. I was out earlier than usual, it was still quite dark. But I managed the walk okay. And it was nice to get there early and be the one to serve breakfast for them all again.
Bunch of sweet visitors today. The neighbouring school group came by. The visually impaired girl among them, she always loves coming in and spending time with the goats, and she’s so sweet to them. Her and another girl was feeding carrots to the goats, they had Jeanette’s little box of carrots. Luna got impatient and just stuck her snout into the box and started scarfing down the whole batch of carrots, while the girls just kept laughing. Cute.
And then I got home and did an hour on the bike. It’s been a long time since I last did exercise after being out goating too. Physically challenging, but feels good. I earned my soup today.

Today wasn’t all good.
It was bound to happen, but today I nearly managed to knock myself out. Walked headfirst into the new shelter roof. Hit pretty hard. Felt like I was punched by Mike Tyson. Prime Tyson, not current influencer-fighting Tyson. I had to check that I wasn’t bleeding or anything, felt pretty woozy afterwards. Had to sit down and collect myself. I’m fine now, but my forehead is pretty sure. I think I got quite the bruise.
But that’s not all. Unfortunately we lost another chicken. Hanna is gone. They had to put her down. It happened Tuesday, when Jeanette wasn’t at work. The others called her and told her that Hanna was doing really badly and they wanted to put her down. I think Jeanette tried to get them to wait, tried to get them to give her some apples to see if she still had some desire to eat or something. I am not completely sure what happened to her, she was plucking herself a lot I guess and may have been depressed or sick from being locked up, since the fox attacks. Or there may have been something else going on. But in any case they felt tehre was nothing else to do than put her down, I guess she was really suffering. So that’s really sad.
Jeanette didn’t want Sonja to be alone over the upcoming holidays, and since she would haven’t much time to do it the coming days, she went right out and got 5 new hens n the evening. So we have 5 new ones now. They are staying locked up for now, I don’t think they’d even want to come out if we let them. I remember the last time we got new ones it took them a long time to get used to the place and feel safe enough to wander around. And with the fox danger they won’t be allowed out all the time of course. Sonja was allowed to come out today, though. That was one of the brighter spots. It was so nice to have her out with us again. She joined the goat crew as she always does. It’s just so nice having her outside with us. She’s easy for Jeanette to get a hold of, so she can be put inside when Jeanette leaves without problems. I hope she will stay safe, she really is a lovely hen and has became an important part of our days.
So yeah, that’s a bummer. Poor Hanna. Hopefully the new ones will settle in well and have good, safe lives here. It’s been a bit much lately, I could tell it’s weighing on Jeanette too.

I have had a craving for Ben & Jerry’s icecream lately. I haven’t had any in more than a year. In fact, I guess I haven’t had any icecream in more than a year? I think.
Anyway, a couple of of weeks ago I put a tub of BJs in with my pepsi&protein order. What did I get? A pack of frozen mussels! Hoo boy. Well, I got a refund. Today I had another P&p delivery. Again put a BJ in the order. This time instead of a BJ I got a cheap brand of non dairy icecream. Now, there’s plenty of good reason to go non dairy and all that. But the stuff I got was definitely nothing like Ben and Jays. I guess the universe, or the delivery company, just doesn’t want me to a bj in a tub. Oh well!

She would always come to me for cuddles, now she has to wait for a chance or for me to come to her.
