It Pours

I made it to the playground today. Barely. I very nearly stepped right out in front of a bicyclist. As I was crossing the road. I was listening tor cars and couldn’t hear any. Couldn’t see anything in the sunshine. Thinking to myself “should I go now? Should I go now? Should I go now?”. And then a bike came out of the fog. I couldn’t see it until it was right next to me practically. So good thing I didn’t step out on the road 10 seconds earlier. I made it across and got on the bus and got to the playground.

Where I got some bad news I’m afraid. Vanilje’s boys have left. Yes. It is a little heartbreaking. They were so much fun and brought me so much happiness. And I was really hoping that we would get to keep at least one of them. But that was not to be. I’m not sure where they have gone, most likely to the eco-garden or another playground. Or maybe back to Kurt’s place. He said they had been causing too much trouble. I find that hard to imagine, especially after they got back inside their pen. How much trouble could they have been behind a fence? But then I always loved their trouble so. They were real firecrackers, that’s for sure. Maybe if I had been around more often I could have helped raise them better so they could have staid. I don’t know. But in any case I will miss them. A lot.

I still had a good time with the sisters, though. Vanilje and Magnethe. They are also beautiful and wonderful, and a little bit firecrackery when they get in the mood. It was nice to just sit on the bench in the glaring sunshine and relax with them. It’s officially a heatwave in Denmark. It’s perfect weather to just lounge around like a lazy goat.

There were more bad news, though. Not done yet. The piglets have left as well. I didn’t spend a lot of time with them, but it was always fun to see them digging around in the mud. With their millions of spots. They were getting really, really big though. I don’t think there was room for them anymore. Gertrude seemed relieved to have a little space to herself again.

But there were more news, and sad news at that. Sussi the lamb has died. She had a heatstroke, apparently. I think it happened on Monday, but she lived for another couple of days. So that is very sad. She was a sweet little lamb, running around with her brother Leo usually. What a shame.

But I am not going to let any of this depress me. Because I am positive. positive Plume. Everything will be okay.l

Poor Sussi. The playground must seem empty with all the piglets and the goat boys gone. I’d heard it has been warmer than usual in Europe. We’ve had some cooler weather this past week, thank goodness.

Another 4th of July has come and gone. It was rainy in the morning, then was nice enough to enjoy the parade, then started misting again in the evening. We were out and about last night, so we saw some fireworks from various towns. Very pretty!

I’m so sorry to hear the news about Sussi! Poor little sweetheart! But then, it has been unbearably hot. The playground dynamic must be constantly changing with the animals coming and going like that. I know it’s hard to say farewell, but there will be new arrivals soon to get to know.

I had actually been wondering about the getting around with such limited eyesight. Have you been offered some aids and courses in how to manage life as partially sighted?

Oh, and I’m back from Germany. It was ace and now I miss it all so much. It’ll be another THREE years before the next production. That’s AGES!

I made it all the way to Denmark, before I managed to get a stamp for the card Raven and I wrote for you back in Husum the first day. So, no exciting German stamps for your collection. Just a Danish bird one.

Sending you hugs and thoughts and more hugs.

Debster – Yes, poor girl. lambs are always so sweet and silly. It’s not nice to think of them suffering.
It’s a lot more quiet now at the playground, with no little ones around. It’s very different sitting just with Vanilje and Magnethe. But they are still lovely and good company.
Happy belated 4th of July!

Desiree – It’s been very, very got indeed. Glad it’s cooling down now. Imagine having to wear a big wool coat all the time in this heat. Poor little thing.
Getting around is difficult now yes. I have been managing okay mainly because I don’t go that many places. Apart from the hospitals and doctors then it’s really only Føtex in City Vest, my parents, and the playground. I can get to Føtex without crossing the road so if I take my time then I should still be able to do that. Not so sure about the others now. But my dad is always willing to come help me.
I haven’t been offered any aids yet. I imagine it’ll come after the surgeries. It’s still uncertain how much I’ll be able to see of course.
Congrats on the succesful German tour. I’m sure you’re all superstars by now. You should be. Don’t worry about the stamps. My dad is the stamp collector, I’m more interested in the cards!

Disappearing Act

I went shopping today. It wasn’t easy. I think I am close to the point where I can’t really go around outside on my own. I damn near walked head first into a sign. It was a “liquid asphalt ahead” sign, so I guess walking into that would be better than walking into the liquid asphalt. There wasn’t any liquid asphalt though. I think they put up the signs before the started the work. But anyway, I was staring at the ground trying not to fall and suddenly there was a sign right in front of me. At least it wasn’t a lamp post. It would be so cliché to walk into a lamp post.

I am still having a hard time finding my positivity back. Everything is very, very blurry and it is hard to escape. I broke down and cried a little. After having a vision of myself sitting in my old room back at my parents’ place. It’s not impossible that I’ll have to move back home at some point. But as long as I can take care of myself I’ll be staying. No doubt. I’m sure the surgeries will sort everything out. I’m sure they will. I will be able to see again. Everything will be okay. I just have to wait a little then it will be okay.

I’m going to go see the goats tomorrow. If I can find my way up there. I dreamt about them last night. Miss them. I wish I could move up to Bispehaven, the residential block next to the playground. I’m still on waiting list actually, have had a couple of offers from there the last couple of weeks. But I couldn’t deal with moving right now. With all the surgeries and blindness and all. But maybe when it’s all okay. Which it will be soon.

Do you think you might benefit from a visit with the low-vision people? I think they might have someone who could come a couple of times a week to help you sort out getting groceries or doing laundry.

I think everyone wants you to be able to stay living in your apartment and being as independent as possible. You might just need a little help to do so, that’s all.

I think that would help you start feeling more positive when you take action to improve your life.

Hanne: you sound like you need to start taking better care of yourself! Dump the unhealthy lifestyle and try something different. We need you around to cheer up our dear danish goat boy (and to hear about your Scottish Fold kitty kat and your English kitty)!

hanne – I will do my best to stay positive. I hope you will too. I’m sorry things aren’t going so great. But please do take care of yourself. I want us both to be alright.

Debster – Well my parents already help me quite a bit. My dad especially. He’s been doing laundry for me and buys a lot of stuff for me, the things I can’t quite find on my own anymore. So that’s a big help, and I don’t mind that. It would be nice to be able to do everything by myself, but that’s not the way it’s going right now. But as long as I can stay in my apartment I can at least stay somewhat independent.
