Heaven And Hell

January 13th, 2009

Let me sum up my day:

Laser eye treatment: horrible just horrible. Goat kids: wonderful, just wonderful.

I am really very tired now, though. So I won’t write much. Just post a bunch of pictures from yesterday. I do want to mention one little cute thing that the babies do. When you scratch them under their chin they move their heads toward you. They stretch out their necks and push their heads forward. I guess the stimulation makes them poke their heads forward so they can suckle for milk. It’s just cute because they do it every single time you scratch them under there. It’s like there’s a little magnet in their head. One time one of them was sitting down when I did it and when he/she had extended his/her head as far as it would go he/she got up on the front legs and just kept moving forward. It must have looked like I was dragging him/her, but all I was doing was scratching under the chin.

Must find out if they are hims or hers. I think they’re boys actually, but I’m not sure yet.

Now for pictures and then early to bed. Doctor’s appointment tomorrow. And after that I’ll stop by the playground again of course.

PS. Funny sidenote: I pour myself a glass of soda for dinner. A couple of hours later I look at the glass. It’s half empty (or half full, depending on your outlook). Wacky, isn’t it? I have to get used to not pouring so much soda in the glass cause I end up not drinking it all. How things change.

I Shall Not Goat Alone

January 12th, 2009

Guess what?

Go on, guess!

I’ll give you a hint: Vanilje had babies.

Two beautiful little darlings. Welcome to the world, babies.

Kurt called me around 1 pm and told me about it. I’m really glad he did. Tomorrow is eye treatment and Wednesday is doctor visit. If he hadn’t called me then I might not have gone to the playground before Thursday. I would have missed their first days. But of course I had to run straight over and say hello to them. They are every bit as sweet and cute as you’d expect goat kids to be.

They looked very similar in the dark. Now that I have seen my pictures with flash I can see that one of them has a somewhat darker head. But they both look like their mum a lot.

And I spent a good time with them. When I got there they were lying down up close to eachother, seemingly sleeping. So I just sat tdown next to them and watched. Meanwhile Vanilje jumped outside. I think she was relieved that the babysitter had arrived and now she could take a little break and get some fresh air. She soon came back in and paid good attention to her babies.

They probably came last night. When staff found them this morning they were all cleaned up, so she’d had time to do that.

So a big hello to them. And goodbye to Tyr, the buck. Kurt brought him back home to him today. He has a couple of lady goats that need attention. And after that there are a couple of ladies at the ecological garden too. So no rest for Tyr, he has his work cut out for him.

More pictures to come of course. I’ll have to stop by the playground tomorrow after eye treatment. I know my vision will be horrible from the eyedrops and I’ll be tired and feel like going straight home. But I have no choice, do I now? I must enjoy them while they’re so tiny and precious.

My precious.
