Welcome Oprah
I went to the playground today. And spent some time with the goats. It was good as always. Magnethe even let me hug her, arms around her neck and all. I do love those goats. They give me peace of the soul, as dad said he could see on me when he helped me get home.
Summer is gone now. No doubt. It is getting cold. It won’t be long before I have to turn on the heaters at night. My bad circulation makes it hard to sleep with cold feet.
But it is good to be sleeping on my back again. And my eye is not hurting. The surgery has worked in that respect.
And my central vision on the left eye seems to have improved a little. Recently I wrote that I would stop replying to comments because it had gotten so hard to read anything. But since then it has actually gotten better. Wonder of wonders. It’s not easy to read, but at least I don’t find myself almost having to give up. It is as if though the blindness that spread from the left and covered the center has retreated a little back to the left. I can almost see the clock on my cell phone again. I could read the time on teletext without using my magnifying glass. So that is good. But I also kind of feel like the blindness at the bottom of the eye might be spreading upwards. And that is a “hard blindness”. Like on most of my right eye, where no light at all gets through and where it feels irreversible. So I am not expecting that I’m on the miracle road to full recovery. But any little improvement is nice. I really did not expect that I would still be able to use the computer by now, so I will just appreciate it as long as it lasts.
What else is going on? I had a doctor’s appointment for blood tests. Long term diabetes and cholesterol. They were both fine. And my blood pressure too. I have gotten new shoes. The foot therapist recommened it. So that is done now. Nice and warm for the winter. On Friday I am going to the eye doc to have the right eye checked. And in a week and a half we have scheduled cane practice with the sight central. And their IT department should get in touch soon about the cell phone and screen reader for the computer too. They actually called while I was in the hospital last week. Had to tell them that I was getting ready for surgery so it wasn’t the best time.
And I think that’s all that’s going on right now. I wish I could go into hibernation for the winter. I could use a good 3-4 months of sleep.
PS. There’s a lot of hooplah in Denmark right now because of the IOC and the Olympic venue picking and the visit of the Obamas and everything. A lot of it is making my old cynical heart a little sick. But I won’t get started on politics now. I do gather that Oprah is going to tape a show in Denmark. And she’s going to try to find out why Danes are the happiest people in the world. If any of Oprah’s researchers happen to read this then I’ll give you a little hint: it’s all about the goats. Sure, other countries have goats as well. But Danish goats are special. In my experience at least.

Of course danish goats are special! Glad to hear that you at least aren’t in any pain now, and that the left eye is somewhat cooperative! Nice to hear from you :)

Hay, hay! Frankie took exception to “Danish goats” being the best. He’s an Iowan goat and he thinks he’s the best goat around!
Glad to see you have a new blog up and you got to visit the goatzies. Our goats keep us sane (well most of the time anyway).
How does the screen reader work? Does it actually read words out loud on the computer screen? That would be cool.
I could just see you with a “seeing eye goat”, Plume. The goat would see an apple tree and take off running with you in hot pursuit.
What? You don’t think picking the next Olympic venue isn’t the most important thing our president should be spending his time on right now? What could be more important than that????

Katrine – I am glad my lefy eye has decided to work with me instead of against me too!
Debster – Well Frankie is pretty special too, I will admit. Are you sure he didn’t emigrate from Denmark? Try saying something in Danish to him, see if he reacts.
I like how Obama is coming now to promote Chicago for a sports thing, but it’s not sure that he’ll come to Denmark in December when we host the big international climate summit. Because obviously the olympics are more important than our climate yes.
Oh yes and the screen reader does actually read text from the screen out loud. I’m not sure it always works that well though. With complicated websites it might not. But it should be a help.

It’s definitely fall time here. The weather has been cooler, but still warm enough for outside painting. We worked outside today and were able to get quite a lot done.
There are many trees and bushes around this house and the birds sing and chirp and tweet all the time. There are still a few hummingbirds around and the cardinals sing so sweetly.
Music is nice to listen to when we’re inside, but bird song and squirrels chattering are so much better to hear.
The goats are getting their fur coats out of storage and fluffed up. Billy is still turning darker brown above his nose and his legs are getting darker.
Billy, the weather goat, has proclaimed: “Fall is on its way”!
Hope you are doing okay. We’ve been thinking about you.
