Revenge Of The Lasers

Things took an unexpected turn yesterday. I had a hospital checkup. I was expecting nothing new. But instead I got a big dose of lasers.

The pressure in my right eye was still too high. So the doctor suggested giving it a powerful laser attack. It’s something you can do to an eye that has no real chance of being able to see again. That’s never fun to hear. But I knew already. I knew. But the point is that it should lower the pressure so you don’t have to keep taking medication. And you don’t have to remove the eye. So we decided that was probably the best thing to do. And then he went and got the expert on the procedure. She came and looked at me. Said I was a primce candidate for it. It’s a much stronger procedure than the laser treatments I had at the beginning of the year. Those were just some little bursts to close blood veins. This was going to be a major burns. So they asked me if I wanted local or full anesthesia. You know I like the full stuff. But it’s a pretty short treatment. 5-10 minutes. And they said that if I went with local anesthesia then we could pretty much go do it right away. So I decided to go with that after all.

It wasn’t too bad. Although I think they were a little skimpy on the anesthesia. When she started with the laser she said “you can’t feel that, right?”. But I could. A little. She told me that if I couldn’t stand it then I should just say so and they’d give me some more anesthesia. But I braved it out. Afterwards it still hurt a little. And my head was very woozy. They’d given me a couple of diamox pills. So I was feeling somewhat beaten up at that point. With a bandage over my eye and tingling teeth. I much prefer the marshmallow dreams of full anesthesia. Oh yes. But at least I came home to delicious soup and also had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in the past year or so.

Now I have to take diamox pills and eyedrops for three days. And then stop. And hopefully the pressure in the eye will stay down. She did say that sometimes it does take two treatments, though. With my luck I wouldn’t be surprised if I have to get it done again. Another risk is that the pressure in the eye can drop completely to zero. If that happens then the eye gets smaller. I guess the pressure is from fluid in the eye and with no fluid the size shrinks. I’m not sure how much exactly, but I guess it might look somewhat weird to have one eye smaller than the other. Still, it would be better than having the eye removed completely. We’ll see what they say when we come back on Tuesday.

  2. Laura Says:

You are such a brave, brave Plume. *hugs*

  3. Ann T. Krist Says:

You are their favourite guinea pig #1

  4. Plume Says:

    milla – big hugs back!

Laura – Thanks! Hope Gabby’s doing better.

Ann T. Krist – Meh, I’d rather be their guinea pig than someone else’s…

Oh, no. Seems like you have a good day or two, then back to the hospital for more treatment. Surely this will level itself out and you’ll stop having all these extremes to deal with?

We’re having some rain again. I want some sunny days! Farmers are still taking in their crops and lots more to harvest. They are really behind in getting the corn and beans harvested.

Hope you stay well and don’t get the dreaded H1N1 flu. It’s all around us, but no one in my immediate family has had it yet. And I hope we don’t. Doesn’t seem to be enough vaccine around our area anyway.

We did have nice walkies for the goatzies and donkey tonight. Many apples and green grass were consumed in this evenings outing. Billy is really furry and fluffy this year. Hope that is not an indication of bad winter weather to come. Billy is one giant fluff ball.

He will really have “fuzz butt” this spring when he sheds his wooly winter coat!

OOOOooooh, I’m SO glad it got there alright! I’ve felt like such a twat for not sending it sooner as I purchased it off eBay aaaages ago! I’m sure you’ll LOVE it. Adam could seriously listen to this stuff non-stop, so it’s definitely Monthy Python fan proof! ;) Let me know how you like it. Just thought it would be a nice change from listening to books. :)

We have a tape with J. R. R. Tolkien reading from Lord of the Rings as well. I can make a copy for you if you’re interested, though I must say he has the dullest voice and manner of reading of anyone I’ve ever heard read! His poor students must’ve had to suffer through some terribly boring lectures. But I digress – it’s interesting hearing it read by himself and as I said, I’d be happy to make you a copy. If nothing else, it’s an excellent help on those long evenings where you find yourself unable to fall asleep. ;) Monty Python does not have that effect, by the way! :))

I’m glad the letter was readable. Thank you SO much for passing the letters on and thank you to your dad also! I still feel silly for asking, but as I you know, I did try a more local and known to me personally source of help on my quest but I failed. :(

Anyways, I shall stop now as I know it’s hard work reading here. Hope your weekend has been pleasant. As always, my thoughts are with you! Oh, and I forgot to mention, the Goat Teddy still sleeps in the arms of my daughter every night!

    Hugs. x

    Okay, I can’t believe I misspelled Monty Python. Sorry! *blush* It was seriously a typo! I’m tired! (;

  8. Plume Says:

Debster – Yes, it’s always a rollercoaster. Hopefully it will be going up again soon.
I want some sunny days too! We had a big storm today. With hurricane strength winds. I think it’s passed now.
And no flu so far. We’ve had bird flu and swine flu. I sure hope they don’t come up with a goat flu too.

Desiree – I am sure I will love it indeed. I may start quoting Monty Python again all the time, wouldn’t that be swell? Everyone loves that!
It’s almost hard to think of Tolkien as a real person. It seems like he should have been around before they invented.. cassette tapes. And automobiles. I should have liked a copy of that tape, but I don’t have a tape player so I don’t think it’d do me much good. In fact I don’t even have a CD player, would you believe it. But my computer can take CDs so that’ll be alright. I don’t think I can fit a cassette in it anywhere.
Maybe that Greenlandish woman believed that Santa lives on the North Pole? In any case, we’re happy to help with it. Hope they will all make it to their proper destination this time round.
I wonder when Raven will get too old to sleep with a teddy? In the meantime it makes me very happy to think of her sleeping with it. You know, I slept with a dolphin for a very long time. I made it myself in.. what’s it called.. håndarbejde? I think that’s what it was. I got a driver’s license for a sewing machine back then. Macho Plume!

  9. Desirée Says:

OMG! I can’t believe I’d forgotten about “Arthur, the man who looks after the planet”!!!! I’m going straight to Children’s TV hell! How wonderful seeing him again! I’ll show it Arthur tomorrow!

All the letters did actually make it last year! They just didn’t tell me ‘cos they didn’t me! I think they thought it was actually from Santa ;)

I was about 20 when I ave up my teddy – he’s called Bjørn. I still havehim. I don’t know if the Goat Teddy shall remain with Raven till she’s 18, though.

I can’t believe you have neither tape nor cd player! But yeah, it is a tape. Maybe I could get it recorded onto CD for you one day. But yeah, it is kinda hard to imagine Tolkien actually sitting there in front of the tape recorder.

I look forward to the Monty Python quotes – will feel just like home! ;)

Hope the eye pressure sorts itself out soon. You don’t deserve any of this, Plume, and I’m getting a little annoyed that they can’t get your stabilised so you don’t have to be scared that what you have left shall also go.

    Hugs.

  10. Plume Says:

desiree – I hope Arthur will like Arthur. I sure loved Bamse På Planeten when I was a kid. They made such excellent children’s TV back then. I don’t know if they still do. I look at that new DR Ramasjang channel and it looks like endless substandard American cartoons. But what do I know, I’m too old for that kind of stuff now I guess. Never too old for Forlæns and Baglæns though!
I’m glad all the letters made it last time. I remember my dad was quite concerned about it, he asked me several times if there were any news. I must remember to tell him that they actally all made it after all. He’ll be pleased about that I think.
Don’t worry about the Tolkien tape. T’would be fun to hear, but just as a curiosity mostly. Nothing worth going to a lot of trouble for.
I had a nice CD system when I lived with my parents, but decided not to bring it when I moved out. So I haven’t had a CD player for years. But I mostly listen to music on the computer anyway, I have a big live music collection that I like to listen to. The CDs I buy nowadays are more just to.. support the artists.

I’m hoping for some stability too. That would come in handy right about now.
