Christmas Laser Lights
I got my eye lasered yesterday. I meant to write an update about it, but I was feeling rather poorly.
The laser treatment itself went quite well. It was nicer than the last time in fact. You may remember that I complained that they seemed to not use quite enough anesthesia last time. This time the must have gotten the dosage right. Or perhaps it was just because the treatment was a little milder. But in any case I didn’t feel any pain. Not during and not right afterwards. So that was good.
I have to say, though, that I really hate getting local anesthesia. It’s an injection right under the eye. And it really hurts. And then the area starts tensing up. It’s one of the worst feelings I have ever tried. Thankfully it doesn’t last long.
And the laser treatment doesn’t last long either. I got some cloth or something over the left eye, to protect it. And then some metal contraption on the right eye to keep it open. And since I can’t see anything on the right eye, I was completely blind for the procedure of course. I could just feel the instrument, it felt like a pen or something like that, being put up to the eye. And a little pressure, but no pain. And then some 15-20 “shots” later it was done. And I could go home. Feeling okay, just a little woozy from the anesthesia and the diamox I had gotten beforehand.
Last time they gave me diamox tp take for three days after the procedure. They didn’t this time. And I did wonder about that. And, as it turned out, that was a mistake. Because when the anesthesia and painkillers wore off I started hurting. Pretty bad, too. It felt like it did at the beginning of all the pressure trouble. When the pressure was way too high in the right eye and I was in pain for a couple of days. Quite painful and not much fun at all. We called the hospital of course. I was pretty sure they’d ask me to come in, but instead they told me to take some diamox. I had some left over from the last time. So I took that. Along with some more painkillers. And it slowly worked. The pain lessened. When it was time to go to bed it was mostly gone. And today it seems to be all gone. So I’m feeling much better. Although now of course I am a bit dizzy from the diamox. But I can handle that for a few days. It’s normal after this procedure that the pressure rises for a bit. But hopefully then it should fall and who knows, maybe I’ll be lucky and it will be normal and stable and I won’t need any more procedures. And we all know how lucky I am.
At least I should hopefully have christmas and new years off now. And it’s back to the hospital in January to see what comes next.
Fingers crossed, as always, that things will work out as well as possible.
Today I got two very nice cards in the mail. From Laura and Desirée. Thank you both a million! They were a little hard to read because they were in cursive handwriting. But I managed it, which was very pleasing. And also Desirée sent me a present. I couldn’t resist opening it. It’s practically christmas, right? It’s a beautiful calendar with pictures of her family. And if you know her then you know she has a beautiful family. I do adore her kids. Much like goats they always manage to make me smile. Thank you, Desirée!

I can’t believe you opened your pressie already! Naughty Plume! ;) I’m glad it got to you alright. Did you have to open the door for the postman for it or did it fit through your letterbox? Anyways, I hope you like it and that it’s not too me-me-me with all those pictures of the kids. I’ve had them made for all of Adam’s family as well and of course for my mum and Mette as well, and as you’re practically family, I wanted you to have one, too. At least the pictures are quite big. ;)
I cringe when I read about your laser surgery. It must be so hard walking into that room knowing what they’re going to do to you! You are surely the bravest man on this planet!
I went to the doctor today ‘cos I’ve been having pain in my kidney and because of the family history with cystic kidneys, he wants me to go for a scan. I’m about pooing myself, and that’s nothing but a scan! Absolutely no pain involved! Ah well. I’ll have pain soon enough when I go for the gyn check up in February. The joys of being female.
I hope the dizziness subsides and that this was the laser treatment to end all laser treatments.
Lots of hugs,
D

Yay! The letters from Santa have arrived! Well, 2 of them, anyways! The last recipient is currently in Paris enjoying a little pre-Christmas family holiday, but I expect Santa’s letter will be waiting for them as well when they return. Raven was very excited and I gather little Lily Mae was also very pleased to hear from the bearded guy up north. :))) Thanks again to you and your dad and your dad’s friend for helping me out! I wish I could repay your kindness in some way and hope it’s worth a little knowing how much joy and of course belief in the Christmas spirit you have helped create! x

Desirée – I hope Santa wasn’t watching. I’ll be on the naughty list next yet.
I did not have to open the door, no. it came in my mailbox. We have new mailboxes. The mailmen are not allowed to deliver straight to our doors anymore (not for regular mail anyway). They can’t handle all those stairs. So now we all have mailboxes on the ground floor. Because of my sight handicap I am applying for an exception, so once the paperwork goes through I should again get my mail to the door. I don’t get a lot of mail and I live in stuen so hopefully the mailman won’t mind too much.
And of course I liked it. Very much so. The only way it could be “me-me-me” would be if it was all pictures of you! And even that I wouldn’t mind. A Desiree pinup calendar, that doesn’t sound so bad to me ;)
It’s a beautiful thing, and it lasts all year, what more could I ask for?
Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I sort of like the dizziness. It make me feel like I’m on a cruise ship. Haha. Well as long as it’s not for too long. A few days is alright. I hope your scan and everything else will go okay. I’m sure it will.
And I’m glad the letters have arrived! That pleases all of us bearded guys up north heeh. It is a nice thought to be able to help spread the christmas spirit. I am making up for my grinchy years, I hope. And you have repaid me many times over, have no doubts about that.

Backpacks and Elefun arrived today! Plume, you are much, much too generous! I shall wrap them up now and leave one backpack for Arthur for his birthday (Dec. 29th). Hope that’s cool with you! :)

Naughty Plume! Me thinks you’ll be opening the package from the “Santa goats” in the USA when it arrives.

And the ambulance! All wrapped up, now! I put the elefun aside as well for Raven’s birthday. Hope that’s okay! I was given a MASSIVE big postman pat teddy doll type thing for free by our local køband (he’d just had it off a representant from Zendium – their kiddie toothpaste features Postman Pat – in case you didn’t know ;) ) a few months back, which I was planning on giving to Arthur for his b-day anyways, so I wrapped that with the backpack! He’s going to LOVE it. :)) I’m So excited about Christmas this year! x

desiree – Excellent! It all sounds very nice. I hope it will be a very jolly christmas. And that was really nice of your købmand. But of courseI know EVERYTHING about postman pat! Why wouldn’t I?! I know he’s a postman.. and.. his name is pat.. and he has a cat name Emil (at least in the Danish version). And I know everything else there is to know (just don’t ask me any questions about it!). They were talking about him on the radio the other day donchaknow. In formidagsbrevkassen. A listener asked who the bad guy (‘skurken’) was in postman pat was. So they tried to figure that out. I think they came to the conclusion that there were no bad guys. But it made me think of your kids anyway hehe.
Debster – But I’m not going to be in America when it arrives!
Har har.
No, I fear you may be right.
