Welcome Back Colour

It is a rollercoaster ride right now.

Magnethe has given birth to two lovely little kids. Beautiful, healthy, happy, curious, opiniated goat kids.

I feel so conflicted, because it seems somehow wrong to be happy so soon after Vanilje’s death. It seems disrespectful in a way. But at the same time, it’s just impossible not to get a little happy from spending time with goat kids. They are just perfect.

I came early to the playground today, hoping to see Vanilje’s boy. He was not there. But don’t worry, he’s okay. Alice took care of him over the weekend and now he has gone to Kurt’s place. He’s going to stay there for a while. With Magnethe having babies, she probably wouldn’t be very welcoming towards the little stranger. Better for him to get some care and security at Kurt’s place. Kurt was apparently already bottlefeeding a couple of lambs, so what harm could one more, hungry mouth be? I do sincerely hope that I will get to see him again. That he will come back to the playground. But most important is that he is happy and healthy. That way there will still be a part of Vanilje jumping around, causing havoc and joy. And looking like her so much it will be painful (for me) when he’s fully grown. I will miss the little fella, but I want what’s best for him and from all I’ve heard Kurt has a great place with lots of animals and lots of experience with caring for them. He’s out on sick leave again, by the way. Kurt. I think it is the stress/emotional stuff. Bottlefeeding a couple of lambs and a darling little goat boy is probably not the worst thing against stress.

And I will get to help take care of Magnethe’s kids. It’s a boy and a girl. White, one with brown head and one with black head. Sounds familiar? It was difficult for me to tell them apart, but that will get easier when we get outside in the light I hope. They are both very cute, as you would expect.

Here is a litlte video: youtube.com/watch?v=3Ilr9d9uUs8. Okay, it’s 10 minutes little. Edited down from 40 minutes. Would have been more if my camera had more drive space.

Aren’t they lovely?

Magnethe is such a good mother. Constantly checking up on them. Licking them, sniffing them, pushing them to feeding position. Lots of worried little mama mumbles.

Lots of visitors came around to see the new ones of course. Bodil came by. She came just as I was sitting with both kids resting in my lap. We talked a little about Vanilje. And the new ones.

So now my clothes smell like goat poop again. And I just had them washed too.

A girl asked me about the badge I wear. I wear two, both with the sight-handicapped symbol on them. I thought she was asking about those yellow ear markings that goats have. Now I realize that Magnethe doesn’t have those. So of course that wasn’t what she was asking about. But I explained that it was because I can’t see so well. They asked which eye I could see with and so on. If I had one of those “sticks”. My cane folds up in neat, little pieces so I can fit it in my bag when I’m not using it.

But I had a good time. I love those two little ones a lot already. Everything seemed good and in order, so I just hope nothing bad will happen now. Good thoughts now. I will get a couple of days with them, then it’s easter. The playground will be closed for five days. Bad timing. But I will have lots of time with them, I am sure.

So phew. It’s been a lot of up and down. Highs and lows. Let’s hope we can stay high for a while now.

Oh, such sweet babies. I’m so happy they both seem fine (and Magnethe, too). I’m sure Kurt will be a good foster goat mama for Vanilje’s baby. Feeding baby lambs and a baby goat would make me feel good.

They are both so cute. I can’t decide which one I like the best. Those little tails are going a mile a minute.

I like at the end where you are the designated “baby goat-sitter” while Magnethe investigates the food bin. What would Magnethe do without you for a “goat sitter”?

debster – I know that one time feeding a baby goat with a bottle made me feel really happy. And a little proud that I was apparently so good at it. I’m not saying it’s a skill to put on my cv, but it was still nice. I really hope I’ll get to see her again. I wonder if she will remember that big, weird guy who took care of her for a few hours.

I think Magnethe was happy to have a goat sitter. Shortly after the video she sat her self down. Not too far away, but just far enough that she could have a little quiet. Thank god Plume is keeping the little ones busy! I’m sure she thought.
