I got a letter from the hospital today. With an appointment date for the secondary cataract exam. December 10th. And if the doctors approve then I’ll get the treatment right away. It’s apparently a simple laser dosage. So fingers crossed, it would be nice if I could get it. Even if I can’t expect any real improvements from it. It will just be good to have it done.

In other medical news, I am trying antihistamines at the moment. I still suspect I have a bit of a dust mite allergy thing going on. Some nights I feel like my nose gets blocked. It can make it difficult to sleep. There have been nights where I have had to use nasal sprays. But you’re not supposed to do that of course, it’s bad for your nose. At least the flu ones. And the salt water ones I have tried haven’t really been effective. But now I’ve had three nights on antihistamines and for those three nights I’ve had no nose problems. It sort of comes and goes though, so I can’t be sure that it’s the antihistamines at work or if it’s just coincidence. But so far so good. At some point I will go to the doctor and get tested for asthma and allergies and whatever else there may be. It may also just be an overweight thing, I think I have heard of that. The nose problem usually comes when lying down flat on my back. If I elevate my head enough then it often helps. So I’ll be lying down and my nose will be blocked and then I’ll stand up and it’ll be all clear. Anyway, We’ll see what happens with that.

I’ve been using my eyedrops from the hospital quite a bit lately too. The ones that dilate your pupils. I hadn’t been using them for a long time. But they actually help quite a bit when I’m at the computer. It is nice to have white text appear white. Instead of dark or yellow.

I am using so many kinds of medications and herbal remedies and eyedrops and pills and vitamins and supplements and so on and so forth. I should buy myself a medicine cabinet.

A robot one.

My allergies have been quite bad this summer and fall. We had our first “hard freeze” last night, so possibly that will get rid of the ragweed and some of the other pollens floating around the air.

Word to the wise: I can’t use the antihistamines with the decongestant in it at night. The decongestant acts like caffine to me. I can breathe and read and watch TV and anything else but NOT sleep. Just the antihimstamine works for me.

Debster – I’m glad I don’t have any real serious allergies. My mother has hayfever, or something like that. I didn’t understand it when I was a kid, and I’m afraid I made fun of her for sneezing a lot during summer. I feel bad about that now.
I don’t even know if the stuff I have is “decongestant” or not. I just had my dad pick something up. But I think it has only been positive for my sleeping so far, so that’s alritey.

I’ve had allergy problems since I was a child. I’m allergic to just about every grass they tested me for and I’m allergic to ragweed of all shapes and sizes. There’s a mold that makes me sneeze, too.

Debster – That’s a bummer alrite. Are you allergic to hay? To a goat that would probably be a nightmare. Like if I was allergic to chocolat. Which I guess in a sense I am.

  5. Debster Says:

Yes, I am allergic to hay! I can always tell ahead of time when they start cutting hay in the springtime by my itchy eyes and sneezing. Sometimes it bothers me when I give it to the animals, but nothing like when it’s first cut and laying in the field all green and not dry yet.

Mucinex/Guaifenesin works great when my nose is all stopped up. You should give it a try if needed. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

  7. Plume Says:

Thanks Traci, I’ll keep those in mind. Haven’t had problems since I started the antihistamines though.
