Broadcast Me a Joyful Noise

Still waiting.

I have been without my new computer for more than two weeks now. Frustrating. I sent off an email asking about it today. So we’ll see. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, R.E.M. broke up yesterday. This is bad news for music. I have loved them for a long, long time. And I will continue to love them of course. Such a long and varied and wonderful career. I have always rated them as my second or third favourite band. After The Smashing Pumpkins. And in competition with Radiohead. Radiohead for the darker moods, REM for the lighter upbeat mood. Although with their fair share of melancholy and emotion. And I love their last record, Collapse Into Now. more than I liked the latest Radiohead album. So they went out on a high note in my book. Leaving New York never easy. Many, many, many, many memories. Deserves a quiet night. I greatly admire Michael Stipe as a songwriter and artist in general. And for staying true to his art even when commercial succes started slipping through his grasp. I wish I could say I felt the same way about Billy Corgan. REM started in the early 80s. The Pumpkins started in the late 80s and were even broke up for a while. But REM still kept going strong. True legends. It also didn’t hurt that I generally agre with their political beliefs. Hey, both Radiohead and REM were anti-Bush. Hail to the thief.

Meanwhile also, goats. youtube.com/watch?v=u9s5tLxqHrU. The playground was closed when I got there Tuesday. I had to sit around for a couple of hours and wait. And the goats had to stay inside and wait. In the video you can hear exactly how Magnethe felt about that. Although I did manage to feed her a couple of leaves through a grate.

When Per came and opened up I asked him if I could possibly have a key for the goat house. I still have my old keys from when I worked there, but they no longer work. Per told me he’d talk to Alice about it. The problem is that there is now only one master key for all the buildings. So there’s no separate key for the goat house. If they give me the key then it will work for the main buildings with computers and stuff too. And since I’m no longer an employee I’m not sure that they can do that. But we’ll see. It would be nice to have keys to the place again. I don’t come around as often as I used to so it’s annoying if I waste a trip because the place is closed and I can’t even lock myself in and say hi to the goats.

Meanwhile also etcetera, Facebook changed their news feed layout. I am avoiding the change so far by setting the language to Danish, I guess the Danish pages haven’t been updated yet. But it’s just a matter of time. I really hate the changes. I am very bothered by the fact that Facebook sets an algorithm to decide what messages I should be interested in and which friends should be my closest friends. I just want a chronological feed of all posts, anything else makes no sense. And with my screen settings and eyesight problems it just becomes harder and harder to use these websites as they do redesigns that inevitably clutter and complicate everything. And as Facebook is my main (and only) social network (including real life) it’s kind of a big deal to me. But I think I have alienated enough people already by whining about it, so I’ll shut up.

Hey, add me on Google+! Google is evil, but at least G+ is clean and simple for now.

Plume out.

Hay, hay! I thought of you when I heard about REM breaking up. Always lots of memories when a favorite band breaks up . . .

It’s been cool and foggy here today. But I can still see the goatzies in their pen. I think they are standing out there waiting for the sun. Good luck goatzies, it might be awhile!

Only 2-4 hummingbirds around this past week. They eat, then they mock fight each other. Silly birds. They better be eating so they can make that long migratory journey to South America.

Debster – I wonder how much the goats would eat if they had to travel to South America? Probably… about the same as they do anyway. They do eat a lot don’t they..
don’t tell Magnethe I said that. She’s a bit sensitive about her weight sometimes.

Looks like my hummingbirds have headed south for warmer weather. I saw my last two on Wed. I will keep the feeders out for a while longer in case there are some hungry migrants flying thru my yard.

We had some light frost this morning, so guess those little birds knew it was time to go. I sure do miss them already.

I combed all the goatzies last night so they all look pretty. Snickers didn’t want to be combed, so she is still a dirty donkey!

Debster – Brrr frost! I’m not looking forward to that.
