This Week In Goats
Hello and welcome to this week’s news for goats.
She’s the one who likes the agility course the best.
And she likes climbing on me too.
Especially if there are raisins as a reward.
Preben, the trouble maker. Ready for trouble.
Sigrid and some kids dropped a pumpkin off for the goats. Bob tried to eat it, but it was too tough to bite through. And the others didn’t seem interested in it. They got scared when I rolled it around on the ground though. Anything that rolls is dangerous, they seem to think.
I went and got some fresh branches with green leaves. And stuck them in the middle of the little agility setup. The goats immediately attacked and devoured.
Even when the leaves are gone Mia will still go back for the branches.
This is Mia standing on my back while I’m standing up, Video below.
For raisins.
Mia trying to smash the pumpkin. Or stand on it at least.
Fun times. Bob managed to escape the fold too. Which is amusing since the fence was rebuilt for the new fold and made extra secure. But he still found a loophole. When he has his mind set on a walkabout it’s hard to stop him.
Sigrid told me that their next project will be to build a canopy in the fold. She told me this as I was sitting in the rain with Mia. Will be nice to have some cover so I can sit out there when it’s raining without getting wet. Although I have no idea how long it will be before it’s done. It could be a while.
On with some videos.
The first one is a lot of fun. Mia stands on my back and I stand up. I actually got her to jump straight up on my back while I was standing, but in the video I’m sitting down when she jumps up. But still. Standing with a goat on your back is rather amusing.

Next a goatlog with lots of hay eating. And some kids having fun with the goats too. Bob gets a lot of laughs.

And the last goatlog, with the pumpkin. Also a guy with a water blower thing came to clean the birdcage. And the goats fled to the other side of the fold. He even left the gate to the fold open when he stopped but it took a while before Kamel carefully approached, at which point I went and closed it.
That’s all for now. We’ve had a nice weekend. I think Saturday may have reached 15C. Oh I miss the summer weather, a lot already. We should get back on that global warming thing. Al Gore was right.

Oh, I never get tired of watching goatzie videos. Mia is so cute. She must be sharpening those tiny little horns of hers. She is growing up so fast.
You’ll have to figure out how to do a time lapse photography of her. I remember seeing that as a kid – they had photographed a flower bud opening up to the full flower. I thought it was magic! I guess if a person would sit still long enough and focus on a flower, you would see it open!
It had been really warm here. I’d been sleeping with a window open and the fans on during the day. Then we had rain and a cold front come in. We had a hard frost warning overnight and I see frost on the ground. I have a mum that has been trying to bloom since July. It looks like it was finally going to open, so I covered it last night to keep the frost away.
Good thing I didn’t have a time lapsed camera set up on that mum from July to October with nothing happening! hee, hee
Our little stray cat, Shadow seems to really be growing now. I looked at him yesterday and thought, “my, he’s getting big”. When did that happen? I would guess he’s about 6 months old by now. The other cats tolerate him, but he’s annoying and chases them even though they are much bigger and older. Shadow sleeps with the dogs and eats from their bowl then goes to the cat food and eats. He’ll probably start barking some day soon. hee, hee
Maybe you need to make a pie out of the pumpkin for the goats. They don’t know what’s inside is good to eat. They must just think it’s an orange round ball of some sort.
Well, it’s about time to go to work priming some new rooms in a guest house. My hunter husband has returned home (no grouse), so it’s back to work we go.

Debster – Well I hope you don’t get tired of them, because they’re probably going to keep coming!
Not sure how I would get a goat to sit still for time-lapse! That would require some pimpressive feats of convincing. Or a lot of raisins.
You had a mum that was getting ready to bloom? I don’t think I know what a mum is, because I can’t quite get it to make sense if it’s your mother.
I need to cover myself at night now though. Below zero now. Brrrr. Need to bring out the winter clothes. I had to scrap some video I shot at the playground because I was literally shaking the camera from shivering. Brrrr.
Shadow sounds like a brave little guy. He’s already taken over all of the world, as far as he can see. I bet. He’ll be going after the goat food yet. Not sure the goats will be happy with that….
I think someone split the pumpkin for the goats, at least there were leftover bits of it lying on the ground one of the following days. And the goats were nibbling at them, so they got their pumpkin pie I guess. Now when do I get mine?!
