Movers And Shakers

Another quiet week. The weather has remained cold, mostly. Added gloves to my fleece and scarf and blouse and jacket. It lead to a surprising moment with Mia. She got afraid of me when I put them on. It was like she couldn’t understand that my hands were still a part of me. Backing off and swatting at them. Peculiar. I don’t think I’ve seen her like that before. A couple of peanuts helped the gloves ear her trust, though.

Speaking of Mia and hands, this week I have been teaching her to shake paws. I know goats don’t have paws, but I think it sounds cute. She’s getting really good at it too. Again, with the help of peanuts. You can see it in the video below. She has me well trained! She clearly knows how to get peanuts out of me. I just can’t say no.

Other than that, nothing really going on. I have a soup date next week. Yay! You know I love mama’s soup. That’ll be good. And the weather is spot on for it.

Yeah, that’s about it. Go go goat photos!

This is how most of my selfies turn out…

Yup.

Kamel’s eye. I was asked on Facebook if she had vision loss. I’d actually been thinking about that lately. Sometimes the way she acts could suggest her eyesight isn’t the best. But then, if I wave my hands over my head she’ll follow them pretty precisely and if she’s at the other end of the pen and I signal to her or just look at her sometimes, she’ll perk up like she knows she might get something. So if she does have some vision loss I don’t think it’s anything that severely hinders her. Lovely old gal.

Mia usually ALWAYS sits facing the other direction on the bench. It must be Herman’s presence that got her to sit this way. Or maybe she liked having her front on the plastic bag with my cushion seat. That’s the seat Bodil gave me years ago. Helps when it’s wet and cold.

Rather a pregnant pose there. You never know…

And a goatlog. With the hoofshaking and wonderful goat kid time.

And that’s all for this week, folks. See you in the next one.

Our two boys love to shake hands – for a treat! Sometimes they will even shake just for the sake of shaking hands.

Those goatzies know when you wear something different. Our boys and even Snickers notice when we have different coats on or boots.

The first year we had the boys, they didn’t recognize us in our coats and hats and took off running. They were used to seeing us in short-sleeves and shorts. Until they heard our voices, they thought there was somebody new in the goat pen.

Snickers always checks out new footwear, too. I imagine in the goat world, the “sees anything new” goat is the one who survives the longest and passes on that gene trait to their offspring.

We are experiencing the “polar invasion” this week. Sure has cooled off in the past few days. And we even had SNOW flurries yesterday and some today. It was widely scattered and I think most of it dropped on our yard!

I am not ready for this cold weather so soon. I like a more gradual drop in temperature so I can get acclimated. We picked up some groceries tonight after work and brrr it was cold loading them into the back of the truck.

I turned up the heater on the way home, but then it was time to get back out of the truck and carry everything inside.

We’ve been giving the animals some warm water during this cold snap. They also have a heated bucket inside their shed. Noooo, we don’t spoil our boys and girl! As long as they don’t ask for coffee or tea to go with that hot water! Hee, hee.

How cold is it, you ask? Our paintbrushes were soaking in a bucket of water in the back of the truck till we got home and I could clean them up.

The water was just starting to freeze when I brought it inside tonight. We are so used to leaving the brushes in the truck when we were working outside and it was so hot all summer.

    When does spring start????

Yeah, Mia is looking to shake hands now even if I’m not reaching for a treat. She knows how to play me!
Makes sense that they have to be careful with strangers! I think Mia has gotten used to the gloves now. On the second day I had them on she was a little less wary, and much quicker to accept them. As long as the hands hold treats then I guess they’re okay!
Even though I’m feeling cold we’ve actually had a very mild fall so far. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t snow until January. We’ll see anyway!
Nevermind spring, when does summer start! Oh wishful thinking…
