Good goat times today. The sun came back! And we got a lovely day around 21C/70F. Not super hot, but a lovely, warm late-summer day. Very good. Lots of sitting around in the sun. I brought a bouquet of greens for the goats in the morning, and just as they were digging in on the pallet mountain, a daycare group came to the fence to see the goats. So I had to fetch some greens and bring them over and put them in the fence so a couple of the goats would go over and eat their greens there and the humankids got to spend some time with them close by. “Thank you” their adult said. Maybe I should have asked if I could come home with them for soup in return. Ah well, too hot for soup today I guess.
Looks like we’ll be getting a couple more sunnday days, so that’s good. Summer is hanging on by the nails.

Not just kids visiting today, also this elderly couple. I think I mentioned them on Friday when they also visited us and I talked a little with them? In any case, they are very nice. I was sitting on the pallet mountain giving cuddles to Sassy who was really loving it, so I didn’t head over to say hi to the humans, but we did talk a little over the distance. Mia however walked over to them so they could pet her. Especially teh husband (if they were married, that is). I got the feeling that he may have been a little cognitively impaired. It was the wife doing most of the talking and he’d sort of repeat phrases she said. But it was very sweet how Mia went over and he seemed to really like petting her.
It’s always nice when people have good experiences with the goats, whether it’s little kids or elderly people, or anywhere in between. Heck, that’s whaT I’m doing basically. I’m handicapped, with a bunch of mental issues. Being with goats, and animals in general, is just really good for people, especially people suffering from health issues or mental issues. That’s my theory anyway and I’m sticking to it.
Now, stay tuned for my theory about brontosauruses.

Good goat times today. A gorgeous, sunny days. Upwards of 24C/75F. I did not think we’d have more days like this. I am thankful for it! So lovely. Now you’d think on a day like that it would be all lazy and nothing happening. But someone forgot to tell that to Sassy. She was in rare form today. It started with her doing the flehmen lip thing. She had just dropped a berry load, so I figured she’d caught a whiff of it and that was the reason she was doing it. I believe it’s often a response to smell? But maybe there was more to it. Because later on she started really acting up. She was humping Lily. Big time. It looked pretty redunk, she was practically riding around on Lily’s back, with her tongue poking out of her mouth. Sheesh, get a room! And then the headbutting started. She was butting heads with Lily, but mostly Nuller. And they went at it. And at it. And around and around. Fiercely and for ages. It so happened that the elderly couple I mentioned last time, they came by just as this was going on. So they got quite a show. And I told them a little about why the goats were doing this and what it all meant. And the lady asked if they weren’t baby goats? No no, just dwarf goats. Even Sky isn’t a kid.
Anyway, that was quite the happenstance. I actually started worrying a little, not about the headbutting but just about the all that exertion in the heat. Sassy was only taking occasonal breaks to start thrashing around plants and sticks. She really had a bee in her bonnet today. I went and got a fresh bucket of water, second of the day. And she drank about half a bucket (it seemed) and then went back to butting heads with Nuller. When they finally calmed down I sat down with her. She was panting so hard, practically hyperventilating. So I sat there and gave her some cuddles and made sure Nuller didn’t approach, just to give her the chance to calm down. She sure got her exercise today. And Milo and Sky said “At least she’s leaving US alone for a change!”. Although they did say it in a suspiciously shy, Danish accent so I don’t know, but this isn’t Look Who’s Talking so we’ll let it go.

Another thing that happend today was that Sky escaped. So we no longer have a Sky.
No no, I got her back. She slipped through a week part in the fence. Maybe she just wanted to get away from Sassy’s crazy circus row. I have started regularly taking Sky out of the pen in the morning to give her some special time, and some special treats, without having to worry about the others chasing her. But that’s through the gate. And supervised. She’s not supposed to go out on her own! I did my best to mend the fence and then got her back in the pen. Uncle Spoilsport!

Not just goat fun today. I got to hang out with Nala the barn kitty for a bit too. She was sweet and cuddly. Really enjoyed getting her neck and face nuzzled. When I moved to her belly it took a few seconds then I felt the fangs and claws. Just that subtle “I could hurt you if I wanted to” touch. Fair enough! Sweet cuddles, though.
