Package
Good goat times today. A cold and dark morning. Just above 5C/41F. Right on the border of being too cold. I need to grow some wool.
It remained dark, with a little rain now and then. No great goat partying today. Just mostly trying to make sure Sky got her share of treats and loves. It is sad to see her withdraw so much. Talked to Jeanette about it, but we don’t know what to do for her. if she was rehomed she would probably just end up in the same situation, her personality is to withdraw and retreat, there’s no way to know that wouldn’t be the same with new goats. Hard to find smaller goats than her…
And we don’t want to put her down, of course. Hopefully her life is still good enough to be worth it for her. But it is hard to see her so withdrawn and always having to run. I hope I can get my back in better shape so I can manage to get there more often and be with her.
Wish we could get Milo back so she had her family bond. I just love my little Sky girl.
Sweet kids visiting today. A couple of groups going into the pen to pet the goats. Laughing at all the kaka. Sky got some sweet cuddles from them, that was nice.

Had a little adventure today. The lovely Carine sent me a package but it seemed to have gone missing. The tracking seemed to say that it had been delivered to a carpentry firm located in the building next to mine, and it was ready for pickup there. Which seemed weird, because that’s not the usual parcel shop where packages go when they can’t be delivered. And I’d had no notification that it was ready for pickup.
Yesterday I went on google street view to find the place, to make sure i knew where to go. I don’t think i’ve ever really used google street view before, fascinating stuff. But I found the address, turns out as I said it’s the building opposite mine, but it’s just another residential apartment block. No sign of a company, at least not on streetview.
Well, after goating today I stopped by there. And it was indeed just an apartment building with no signs of any companies or anything like that. There was a door buzzer too, but the address I had gotten didn’t say anything about which floor or apartment it was supposed to be, so i didn’t even know who to buzz. I had noted down the phone number for the company, so standing outside the building I called the number. Got a very confused owner who told me that they don’t offen any kind of parcel service, they don’t accept packages from others, he didn’t know anything about any package and certainly didn’t have my package.
Welp. It was all pretty confusing. In Denmark they shut down most post offices many many years ago, replaced by post shops, usually placed in other stores. A lot of supermarkets have a postal shop connected to them. But when I was looking at it yesterday I hadn’t seen any sign that this carpentry firm had any parcel shop going either.
Anyway, it turns out I had the tracking number wrong. It was an 80, not a 30. Blame my blindness, I could have sworn I had the right number, but now after re-checking the photos of the label that Carine sent I can see that I had it wrong. I don’t know how I was able to get it wrong like that, I even pasted the photo into photoshop to enlarge it and make sure I had it right. And still I had it wrong.
Just really strange that the incorrect tracking number led to a package from the same date that was reported as ready to be picked up at a building next door to mine. I don’t know how that happened.
The correct tracking number shows that the package is ready to be picked up at the usual package shop I usually get packages from. So that’s good. But it’s annoying I didn’t get a notification. If we hadn’t had the tracking number, we wouldn’t have known it had arrived at all.
I’ll pick it up in a couple of days, so that should all be fine. Sorry bout the ramble, just thought it was a little funny moment, me totally out of my comfort zone, standing in front of an apartment building, calling a carpenter to ask for my package, after streetviewing my way there. Hah.
Oh and it was funny in street view when I was looking at the building, and then I turned around and HEY THERES MY BUILDING. Street view is fascinating, I almost felt like seeing if I could do my walk up to the goats through the street view. You could go on vacation through street view. I was alive when the internet was just a few pages and text links, you were lucky if there was a picture and maybe a webring thing at the bottom. Kids today don’t know how lu *Head explodes*

So, since I slept about 14 hours the night before, it wasn’t surprising that I wasn’t very sleepy last night. Couldn’t really sleep. What did I do instead?
Why, I watched The Elephant Man of course. As you do.
After some more contemporary detours and unwell feeling days, I got back to my David Lynch journey. Finished all the TV, so now I’m doing the movies. In chronological order, so this comes after Eraserhead.
I had been a little worried about The Elephant Man. I knoew of it, of course. But never seen it. But knowing that it was pretty old and in black and white and considered maybe his most mainstream movie, I was a little concerned that I might find it… boring. I don’t really watch a lot olf movies. I know some will scoff and say the movies from the 80s aren’t old. But with the black and white it has the feel of an oldtimey movie.
I was pleasantly surprised and found that I was not bored and I didn’t mind it being black and white and pretty slow and quite conventional. it’s a moving story of course. And a bunch of brilliant performances. And watching it alone in the dark at 4 am was a pretty good atmosphere for it.
And relatable. Okay, I’m no elephant man. But if you’ve grown up feeling like a freak and too ugly to be part of social life, welllll.
Almost funny how some basic common indecency from average humans can be as distressing as some of the surreal demonic pain and suffering of Lynch’s other work. As scary as monsters are, humans can be way scarier.
Next up is Dune. Never watched that one either. From all I’ve heard it’s a horrible movie. But it’s got Kale! And it’ll be fun to have watched that when i got to the new Dune movies at some point. The spice must flow.

In case you’re wondering, I still don’t understand why the American president should have the power to pardon the people. I just don’t get it. The most powerful people should be under the most scrutiny, held to the highest standards of the law, should be the best of us. They should not get to hand out get-out-of-jail-free cards, they should not get to unilaterally decide who’s above the law.
I could understand if it was exceptional cases on humanitarian grounds, people who are in jail because of drug stuff that’s now legal, people on death row where there’s been cast doubt on their convictions. But family? Cronies? I don’t understand why that’s a thing. Just like life terms on scotus and electoral colleges and americans thinking kids seeing nipples on tv will damage them and thinking a trans rapist would be stopped by a bathrom sign and people thinking reality tv is real and well I could go on.
That all being said, I have so much more sympathy for a father pardoning his son for crimes that, as far as I can tell, didn’t hurt anyone and the father didn’t benefit from, as opposed to someone pardoning people doing crimes directly related to the person holding the power to pardon, that’s where it’s incredibly problematic.
Bla bla bla. Pretty funny seeing the meltdowns though. No I don’t think Biden should have the power to pardon his son, but if you think that’s horrible while Trump’s pardonings were cool, well then you’re nuttier than me after a bag of cashews.
Anyway, isn’t lying to buy a gun pretty much the most American thing you can do? And cheating on your taxes? Show me a giant corporation that doesn’t do that, and corporations are people too. Law and order, eh it’s a tv show, fiction.
Alright alright. Pardon me for ranting.

Got an hour twenty on the bike today. And got my rod manipulated. Getting back to strength. My chest and lung issue seems to be almost gone. Better and better. I haven’t been eating well the last week and a half though, need to get that back under control. But onwards and upwards, tappa tappa tappa, going round the bend.

Good goat times today. Still cold. Down below 5C/41F. Back in the sweater. Frozen fingers. Boo.
When I got there, the goats were separated. Bella and Luna in the big pen, Sky in the small. With the new gate closed between them. They were eating their breakfast. Jeanette told me that she had done it to give Sky a little peace, apparently Bella was after her a lot. She might put them in separate pens sometimes when I’m not there, to give sky a bit of a break.
But she said Sky had been more active, I guess lately she’s been pretty passive, just sitting inside and not doing anything. I haven’t seen that, because she comes out when I’m there of course. But it’s good that she’s been more active again then, don’t want her sitting around being sad. And good that she can get her breakfast in peace.
Bella and Luna weren’t too happy that they couldn’t get to me though. But once Sky had eaten all she wanted I opened the gate and let everyone join together, in holy goatrimony.
We had some fun out in the pen today. The sun was shining, behind clouds sure, but it was there. And the day felt a little brighter, not so dark and wet. Even got a little running on the ramps, so that was fun.
I’m gonna need some soup now.

Hey hey! Thank you so much Carine Jamar for the lovely package! Yes, after the little adventure with the carpentry firm the other day, today I managed to actually get my package. And what a sweet and thoughtful package it was. Carine is one of the good old friends from the goat page circle. I am thankful for all the lovely people I have gotten to know through the page.
And thankful for these presents. A Lasse hat! I can get rid of my ID badges haha.I It’sa me, Lasse the goat whisperer. And a hat, I guess that’s what I think of as a beanie. And then a .. neckroll thing. I don’t even know what that thing is called. And I don’t know why i’ve never though of gettings omething like that before. It is so super soft and warm. I think it will really help on cold days. Instead of the scruff half-scarf that I put around my neck, this thing is so much better and warmer.
And then a sign that says “keep the gate closed, no matter what the goats say”. Haha. The metal got a bit warped during the shipping, but it’s still really cool. I’ll have to see if I can get Jeanette to put it on the gate, although it’s so cool i’d almost rather keep it at home. Maybe I can get a “Keep the fridge door closed, no matter what the Lasse says” sign. HMm
Well, thank you again, Carine! Put a big smile on my face. I’m glad I had the tracking number, because there was no notification or anything from the postal service, I wouldn’t have known there was a package for me if Carine hadn’t told me it was coming.

I watched the two first episodes of the new Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew.
I quite enjoyed them. It’s very clearly aimed at a younger audience. They aren’t hiding the ‘Goonies in space’ inspiration. But who doesn’t love pirates?
It seems sweet and fun and cool. It’s maybe not quite the kind of thing I typically want from Star Wars, but as long as it’s good and entertaining then I’m on board for it. The kids are pretty great, the pirate droid is predictably cool and fun, lots of funny details and weird aliens. The mystery of the planet is interesting. And it’s kind of nice to have some ‘uncomplicated’ Star Wars. Not tying into the saga, not set in known space, with known characters, no big important story with consequences and expectations. For now it seems pretty self contained and just fun. And I appreciate that.
Off the wall predition: That pirate captain in the helmet, that’s going to turn out to be Fern. It was a flashforward, she’s in the helmet with a voice changer.
Totally crazy guess, but if I’m right you all owe me a hundred republic credits.

Okay I get the stop part, but wouldn’t it make more sense to listen before you collaborate? You should know what you’re collaborating with before you make the decision to collaborate. How about … brief pause, listen, evaluate, collaborate.
Anyway, I’m going to bed, please poke holes in my logic. To help with breathing.

I was supposed to get up and exercise today. I didn’t make it out of bed. Here we are 16 hours later. Oops. Oh well. The depression has been stronger lately. The cold and dark days, and other things. Eating poorly doesn’t help. I’m going to make myself some soup now and I guess I’ll be staying up all night.
But oh boy I love the dreams. It’s tempting to go back to a whacky sleep schedule just for all those great dreams. It’s not good for my general mental health though.
Tomorrow there’s a Pepsi delivery and then I’ll have to do those exercises and try to stay on track. It’s a holly jolly chrismeltdown.

Got an hour thirtyfive on the bike today. Phew. Really pushed myself. Feels good. My lung capactity doesn’t feel quite as strong as before the badness, but the effort is there now. I tried upping hte intervals a bit, instead of 30 seconds fast and thirty seconds slow, I did a minute as fast as I could. Phew that kicked my buttski. I only did that like 5 times. It was at the end of the exercise so I was already pretty tired. But that really got my heart going got me totally out of breath. I’ll try to do more of those. Just have to be careful not to wreck my legs.
But at least I’m getting back into the swing of things, so that’s good.

Unfortunately I have to share some bad news again. We lost another hen. We lost Maren, she was the biggest darkest one. I was afraid this would happen, because apparently she did not like to get put in lockup. The other day Jeanette couldn’t get her to come inside at all when she was leaving. And I guess none of the other staff could either. They have had problems getting her inside before, and this time they couldn’t get her at all. She had her freedom, but she paid with her life. Presumeably again the fox.
Now we only have two feathers left. Red Sonja and Hanna. They are staying in their caged area for now. But since they come back inside when they are let out, hopefully they will still be able to spend time with us when Jeanette is around. I would miss especially having Red Sonja out with us. But we have to keep them safe first and foremost of course. It’s such a shame. The newfeathers have never been as tame and domesticated as the old ones, like Sonja and Henrietta. Not as good at following directions. Sigh.
