Light My Fire

When it rains it pours. And the squeaky wheel gets the grease. And other such proverbs.

I was woken up at 7:53 this morning. The super came to change the locks. He was actually supposed to slip in a note asking me to call him and arrange a time where he could come and do it. But he skipped that part, I guess. And my locks are now changed. That’s good, nice to know that there are no wayward copies of keys floating around. And hopefully I’ll be able to get into the storage room in the basement too, I haven’t tried that yet.

When the super left I went back to bed to sleep a little more. Twenty minutes later my phone rang. It was the drape master. He told me that my drapes would be ready after noon on Monday. But if it was okay with me then he’d swing by my appartment in 15 minutes and get the glider sawn and up on the wall and do the rest of the preparations. That was perfectly fine with me, so he came around. And now everything is ready for the drapes. I’ll go pick them up on Monday and then I’ll finally be able to walk around naked all day.

Actually I am naked as I type this. I just had a nice shower. My first long “sitdown” shower. I like sitting in the shower and letting the water wash over me. Of course now I have to pay the water bill myself so I can’t really sit there for an hour. But a good 20 minutes, I can afford that. And now I feel so fresh and so clean clean.

He was very nice, the drape master. You might remember that I described him as an “oldtimey” sort of shopkeeper who seemed to care a lot about his field of work and the customers. And that feeling continued today. He seemed very interested and we talked for a bit while he worked. Talked about the appartment and the neighbourhood and my parents and so on and so forth. He asked if he had woke me up when he called, and apologised when I answered affirmatively. I assured him that it was okay.

My dad came around earlier. To help me with one of the lamps I bought. Did I mention that? The wire was cut. So he came and attached an electrical plug thing, and now it works. Let there be light. Tomorrow I’m going to go feed the animals and after that I’ll swing by the old house and help him out with some computer stuff. You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.

And the world does turn, nice and easy.

Don’t let the goats know you were in the “au natural” or they’d be like that, too.
