How Many Roads Must A Plume Walk Down
Another quiet day.
I did a little shopping. Bought some new gloves. My old gloves were quite worn and bruised, a couple of the fingertips were undone. Can you guess who was behind that? I’ll give you a hint: he has two horns, a long beard and a neverending appetite for nuts and raisins. That’s right. Mads likes to chew on my gloves. And I’m not too good at setting boundaries when it comes to goats. I happily let them chew on my sleeves, bite my gloves, munch my shoelaces and so on. I swear, sometimes it seems like they look at me and see a big cakeman. Oh yes.
But it has gotten so cold that I now needed some gloves without holes in them. Done and done, and then some.
Speaking of goats, here is a video of Magnethe: http://youtube.com/watch?v=fGe7kb5uovQ. It is very, very boring. Unless you happen to love Magnethe like I do. And even then it’s probably still pushing it. She’s just scratching her chin against a wooden board. I love when goats scratch their heads against stuff. They always look like they get a really good scratch going. Even more I love, of course, when I’m the one scratching them. Sometimes they will actually scratch themselves ON me. I will be sitting on the bench with my leg crossed and one will walk up and start rubbing its head against my shoe. Hah. Then I’ll start pushing the shoe back against them so they can really get scratched good. When I am not a cakeman, I am a scratching post.
And I don’t mind one bit.

*How many roads must a Plume walk down * – “The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind.”
Isn’t that something. Our goats do that head rubbing against the bottom of our shoes, too. Must be some instinctual goaty thing.
Now our pygmies don’t stretch their head and turn like Magnethe does. I like to watch her do that. Looks like it feels good. She looks so happy while she’s scratching in your video. Nothing like a good scratch to make a happy goatzie.
I always thought I’d like a pair of those gloves that have the tips of the fingers exposed, but your hand is covered. And when it gets cold, you un-Velcro the mitten part and it goes over your fingers. So you have two-in-one gloves/mittens. They always seem to be made out of wool though and I think they would be scratchy to wear.
PS: I think my Dad was a goat in his former life. He requested “hazel nuts” on his Christmas list!!!! What does that tell you??

Isn’t the head rubbing thing a form of ownership, like kats?? They want to put their scent on you so that you’re part of their tribe so to speak.
But then kats like to lay on their back and expect tummy rubs. If humans became kats, we’d have a whole new different society.
Mmmm…point to ponder.

Debster – Maybe the goats are jealous because they don’t get to wear shoes? Hmm..
Magnethe often turns her head around like that, I always find it funny and sweet. Except when she does it right as I’m trying to take a picture of her. I can’t count the times where a good “Magnethe headshot” has turned into a blurry, stretching neck shot!
I’d like some mittens. And kittens. Maybe kittens in mittens.
I think you should keep your dad away from your shoes, is what it tells me!
LuisLemmings – I don’t think it’s the same as with cats. As far as I know the goats don’t scent things like that. I think it’s just that they love scratching and getting scratched.
If humans became kats would goats then become humans maybe? Transmogrificallity.

Well, now that I think about it, male intact goats (those that still have their goodies) do have scent glands up around their horns.
I think that is why you want to have your male goat babies made into wethers early on before this scent gland develops. I’m assuming we humans can smell it. The other “buck smell” is from the male goat urinating on his legs, beard, and face in order to entice the female goats!
Now we humans can’t smell the scent gland on the kitty kat’s head (or I don’t think we can), so I don’t know if the wethered goats just rub their heads on things thinking they are scent-marking when they really aren’t or maybe they are and we just can’t smell it (like in the kitty kat case).
I have thought way too much about this subject! Anyone else have any comments on the scent gland of the goat? Bueller? Bueller? Ferris Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?
LuisLemmings: I like to lay on my tummy and have my back and shoulders rubbed!
PS: “The Carol of the Goat Bells” animation is not up and running yet. It says to check back in December so I will put up the link again when it’s back.

Debster – I think Vanilje must have some kind of scent glands around her horns.. at least I often detect a faint smell, the buckish smell, when I scratch her up there. Weird. I think some more research needs to be done on this whole subject!
I shall gleefully await the carol. I remember it fondly. As do I Ferris Bueller.
