Tofu Or Not Tofu

June 23rd, 2013

It’s been a nice week. Pretty warm, mostly. There have been clouds but also one very hot day. And I have had enjoyable times with the goats. Everyone doing well and happy. The kids running around, having fun. It’s nice to see little Palle running around with Medium and Large. He’s big enough to play with them now, even though they often gang up on him when he gets too full of himself! He’s a very social little fellow, when people walk by he’ll often just follow them around. Sigrid told me that when I’m not there to occupy the attention he’ll often come wandering to the playground house and “bug” the staff. And Mia seems to be getting used to the fact that she can’t keep an eye on him all the time. He just runs off on his own too much. But then when they’ve been apart for too long they’ll start calling out to each other. And usually Mia is the one who comes running to find him.

On the home front things have been progressing well, healthwise. I am eating less and eating green. I have had good 3 hour sessions on the bike. Yesterday I even managed to go for 200 minutes. I never would have dreamed I’d be able to sit on an exercise bike for that long. Not without a milkshake and a hotdog in my hand! But it feels good. And I am slowly losing weight. Progress! I am happy with it.

My mother called yesterday, I think she wanted to hear from my own mouth about the vegetarianism haha. I know it’s hard to believe. We will have to come up with new dishes for me to eat when I go to have dinner with them. What about christmas then, she asked? I think for christmas I could still go for our traditional roast. And if they want to invite me to Rådhus Caféen for stegt flæsk med persillesovs on my birthday I would probably not turn that down either. And as I said I still want mama’s chicken soup. I’m not a militant vegetarian! I will allow myself a setback now and again. And I’m not judgmental about others either. Humans will always be meat eaters, this I believe. I just don’t think it’s right for me anymore. Good thing I stopped eating bacon a few months ago, it would probably have been hard to quit that cold (tofu) turkey together with everything else. Oh yeah, I did buy tofu. Wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It kinda reminded me of chicken. Watery chicken. I fried some up and it tasted somewhat like egg. Fairly bland. I’m sure it can taste great if you prepare and marinate and have fancy recipes and such. I just don’t really have the capacity for fancy cooking. Not right now anyway. I am “functionally eating” at the moment. I’m eating what I need to stay healthy but not really eating for enjoyment or great taste. I’m okay with that, though. When I have lost some more weight I’ll probably try to find a plateau with better balance between health and enjoyment. We shall see. Doing my best anyway.

On with today’s goat pictures.

Grandmama Mio looking sweet.

Palle starting to get the hang of the jumping on the back.

Dear Mia.

Palle in the greens.

More Palle.

That cute face.

Big boy Bob.

And big ears Palle.

And videos. First a goatlog from Monday and Tuesday. Sunny days with goats in the green. Although the goats did wander up into the concrete blocks above. Palle learning to jump on my back. Visiting dogs. And so forth.

And goatlog from Thursday. Where the twins get separated and Large isn’t happy about it.

Did I mention that Medium and Large are permanently named so? There’s a girl who calls Large Lars, though. Hehe. Close enough.

That’s all for today. Onwards.

Meating People Is Easy

June 16th, 2013

It’s been quite a lovely week. Lots of sunshine. Unfortunately I didn’t get to spend as much time in the sun with the goats as I had wanted to. I guess the playground staff were off on a course or something. For two days, at least. So I had to settle for some time inside with the goats on those days. And then on Thursday I had to stay home in the morning because we had people coming over to check on my storage unit. Did I mention that? My dad and I found weird stuff in my storage unit in the basement. What looked like several children’s blankets and some car parts? Maybe. And paperwork. And something that looked like a credit card application and a police summons. Yeah, not sure what that was all about. I’m glad we had the locks changed recently. One of the guys who came to help clear it out was the crazy chicken guy. He’s not crazy at all, he’s very nice. I don’t see him much at the playground anymore, but I see him around my neighbourhood occasionaly. I guess he works in the janitorial/custodial department here. So I get to say hi to him once in a while and he asks about the goats sometimes. Especially when there are kids coming. Very nice.

On the home front there have been some developments. First and foremost, I am apparently now a vegetarian. Three days and counting. I had been thinking about it for a long time. And gradually been cutting down on meat and psyching myself up. And then it just sort of happened. So far so good. I’ve cut down on salt too and eating less in general. More smaller meals, which I gather is the best way to go. Let’s hope so. I think I can make it. I still want mama’s soup in the winter, that will be the one cheat I will allow myself. Otherwise my ambition is to not eat meat. I might have setbacks of course. I’m not going to be too tough on myself or preachy about it or anything. I’m just going to try my best. I’m hoping eating more green, and less in general, will be good in my quest for health. But the vegetarian thing is more because I don’t want to eat animals. From an ethical/psychological point of view etc. I feel like now is the time for me.

Also, on Friday and Saturday both I had three-hour sessions on the exercise bike. Phew! Three hours is tough. My previous record was 150 minutes. My legs were continually cramping up yesterday, after the second session. I took a 40 minute casual ride today to warm up the legs and stretch them. Feeling okay. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep doing 3 hour rides, it’s still pretty damn rough. But I do want to push myself. On the eating and the biking. I’m happy with how it has gone so far. At least I’m doing stuff.

But let’s get back to the goats.

Hi Palle!

Hi Mia!

Hi Bob!

Mia being cheeky!

Little Palle. He has lovely, shiny, soft fur.

Got a hold of him.

Hah, thought this was cute. Goats all over me.

And video. Just one goatlog this time, because of the days with less goat time. Fitted three days into one goatlog. The usual fun shenanigans.

And there you go. Onwards and upwards. For the embettering of all the peoples.

PS. Happy Father’s Day, dad! Thanks for all the help.
