Frog Or Badger

April 22nd, 2011

The weather has been absolutely wonderful the past few days. Upwards and perhaps past 20 degrees celsius. It’s like summer, and I love it. Twenty degrees is just about my comfort zone. Comfortably warm without being crushingly hot. I could take it a little hotter, though. That would be good for exercising. But it’s really good right now.

I went out without wearing a jacket for the first time this year. I was hoping to spend the beautiful day with goats. But unfortunately that fell through. The playground was closed because of the Easter holiday. I expected that, but I did not expect that they had changed the padlock on the goat house. My key no longer works. Bummer. I waited around for a while, but I had no idea when anyone would show up. In theory they could have already been there and fed the animals and no one would come for the rest of the day at all. So I went back home. No goats for me. What a waste of a lovely day. I could hear Magnethe baahing inside when she heard me rustling with the chain on the lock. Frustrating when you can’t get in and say hello.

But of course we can’t have a goatless entry, so here is a video from Wednesday: youtube.com/watch?v=gdV6mVLEVKM. That was a beautiful and summery day as well. When I got there Magnethe was baahing her lungs out. It sounded like she had almost lost her voice. She was tied down on a patch of grass and her boys had run off. Naturally she was not pleased about that. I helped get the boys back to her, but it’s hard for little, happy goat boys to stay put in one place. They have the wanderlust. So Magnethe did a lot of complaining that day

Snow White had wanderlust too. I don’t know if she’s been outside on her own before like that, but it’s the first time I have seen it. She quite enjoyed walking around the place. The freedom of no fences to keep you in. And the fresh grass coming up. And being able to follow her boys if they decide to run off.

Magnethe’s little blackheaded boy seems to be doing better. I don’t think he’s still getting medicine. Although he still seems to stick a bit closer to mama than the two other boys. A little less independent it seems. The all black boy is still the most self-assured and confident one I think. And the brownheaded one is the one who seems to most like human contact and attention. Several times it happened that I was sitting with Snow White and her boys and then I felt someone nudging me from behind and when I turned my head there he was, trying to get in my pocket or nibbling at my jacket. And he will stand still for ages while you scratch his head or pet him. Or climb into your lap. It’s fun to see how they all develop their own distinct personalities.

It was a really nice day in the sunshine. The human kids were nice too. Sara, the girl who asked me lots of questions and thought my folded cane was cool, said she’d missed me. That was very sweet. And there was a girl who, when I told her that the daddy goat wasn’t at the playground anymore, asked me if I was sort of a daddy to the goat babies then? Hehe. Almost. A goatsitter at least.

Most of the kids are really, really nice. And love the goat babies of course. Some kids aren’t so nice, though. Someone fired off a firecracker, or something like that, at the far end of the playground. Close enough that it scared the goats. If Magnethe hadn’t been tied down then they probably all would have ran far away. That wasn’t a very nice thing to do in a place with lots of animals. Tsk tsk.

Now I’m off to celebrate Easter with some scrambled eggs.

Ultima Fighter

April 18th, 2011

A little more from the goat place.

youtube.com/watch?v=9LnjN-GuYmY. Mio and Bandit duking it out. It’s quite amusing, because Mio is the biggest of all the kids, I think, and the most self-assured. While Bandit is the smallest and still seems pretty shy and timid. But he really goes at it here. Not backing down for a second. He’s got a fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, the black-headed kid is doing a little better. Sigrid told me. But he’s still getting medicine. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

Also, a million thank-yous go out to Debbie. Today I got no less than two packages from her. She was kind enough to help me buy some stuff from amazon us marketplace. Some old games from sellers that would not ship to Denmark. So I got them sent to her and she put them in a couple of boxes and sent them to me. Along with another spiffy hat. So I had a good time unpacking all that. The old Ultima games mean a lot to me, so I’m very happy to have gotten them. Some I had before in the past, some I only had digital copies of. Amazing memories. Although I really shouldn’t have spent so much money on things I essentially can’t use. It’s a bit silly of me. But I don’t care. It’s my money and it makes me happy. And if I ever need cash I can probably sell them on ebay for a tidy sum. Especially the dragon edition of Ultima 9 is huge and expensive. I think it cost 2 or 3 times as much as my DVD player. Haha. But it IS awesome. And my DVD player was cheap. So that’s okay. No worries. No worries.

In any case, thank you so much Deb. And thank you for reading and commenting on the blog. If it wasn’t for you I probably would have shut down this place by now. I appreciate all you do for me.

Now back to the regularly scheduled goats.
