Good goat times today. It was a grey morning with a bit of rain. Which surprised me because the forecast had looked quite summery. But turns out the summery part only came in later in the day. It didn’t get really hot until I was walking home, typically! Haha. But it was pleasantly warm all day and the rain didn’t last too long. So it was nice enough. I enjoy the clippity clops of goat hooves on the wooden floor in the goat house. Especially when they suddenly speed up because someone has to the duck out of fodge. This is usually the newbies running when Mia arrives or Milo or Sky running when Sassy arrives. Suddenly the hoofsteps speed up, possibly followed by someone banging into a wall and then a blur of goat running past me to get out. It’s a dangerous life in the goat pen.
We had some nice visitors at the fence too. A fun little boy who seemed like a handful. He was quite loud and his mom had to keep running after him and trying to contain him. They had left his bike at the playground, but the boy didn’t want to take the 1 minute walk back where they’d come from. He wanted to go the whole way around the goat pen and the horse field and all that. Maybe a 10-15 minute walk, probably more with a little rascal like that. Haha. He got quite upset but eventually heis mom managed to drag him back the short way. He also got a poop show from one of the goats. He wasn’t really grossed out or excited by it though, just said “that one is pooping”. And his mom said “yes, all animals do”. And that was that.
But speaking of poop, another encounter at the fence was a guy from the community gardens across the path. I am pretty sure I’ve mentioned him before. His Danish is very bad. But he came and was trying to find out when the playground staff would be around. I told him I didn’t really know, I was just a goat helper. He picked up on the word for goat. And then he asked ‘what’s that called’ just as Sky was approaching. I thought he meant her but he went no no and was pointing at the ground. Then he leaned down and picked up a goat berry. Haha. He’s been asking before if he could have goat poop for his garden. Well, now I was a in a bit of a dilemma. What do I tell him that goat poop is called? I figured telling him they’re called goat beries might not be helpful haha. I ended up just tell him basically that they’re called ‘lort’ which is Dansih for shit. Slightly vulgar, but he didn’t really catch it when I tried more polite bæ and afføring. Hahah. Well, I don’t know if he’ll get any goat shit. Since they just poop all over the place it’s kind of hard to get any decent amount in one place. But good luck to him,.
When did my life become so poop centric?! Haha. I’m not pointing any fingers but…

Uh oh, we got another jailbreak. Milo may be The Bandit, but watch out for The Baby was well. Sky took a hike. Funny thing, I wanted to film her for a minute while she was out the pen. Then when I was going to go fetch her back in, she came up to the fence.. and managed to squeeze through and get back in the pen on her own! Haha. It’s like she has her little personal cat door. She comes and goes as she pleases. Well, I did my best to fix up the fence where she squeezed throught (it wasn’t the part that they put new fencing around) so hopefully she won’t be able to keep doing it. Sheesh. Next she’ll be digging a tunnel..

Good goat times today. Phew, it’s a scorcher! And i’m not just saying that. Turning on the news in the morning before headnig out they were talking about how we might set a new record for recorded temperature in Denmark today. Not sure if we’ll break it, but it’s a hot one. The forecast for my neighbourhood said upwards of 34C/93F. And that alone is extremely hot and rare for Denmark. A little cooler in the morning of course, and thankfully there was a good breeze and a bit of cloud coverage, which made it more bearable. But as the day wore on you could really feel that heat. Panting goats. Lots of relaxing. Sweet visitors getting greens for the goats at the fence. And treats of course, treats and cuddles.
And I made sure to eat and drink before heading out, so I didn’t feel like blacking out today. But the walk home was still quite draining. I love a beautiful summer day like this though. And now a cold bowl of koldskål for dinner. And probably some iced creams for dessert.

Well, it’s official. We got a new Danish heat record for July. I don’t think we’ve beaten the alltime record yet, but it could still happen today. It’s a hot one for sure.
I went shopping after the goat trip today and when I left the aiconditioned mall it felt like walking straight out into a carpet of heat.
Thoughts and sympathy for our friends in the southern parts of Europe, and Britain, who are having it even worse right now. At least in Denmark it’s just one day of max heatroom and then it’s back to just normal hotness, and in a few days we’ll be back down around 20/68.

Mia is wise to the fact that I often put foodstuff on the roof of the shelter when I’m getting ready to hand it out to them. So now it’s routine that she has to check to see if there’s anything good there. No luck this time, though!

Good goat times today. Back where I belong. And and an absolutely gorgeous day. Up around 24C/75F and lots of sunshine. For Denmark that is high summer. Lots of lounging around and basking in the light. Sweet visitors too. Some kids getting branches for the goats. And the young lady with the little dog came by again. Once again she warned her dog to be careful not to get a headbutting. Apparently it was ‘the white one’ who tried it in the past. So I have to apologise to the bandit Milo, can’t pin this one on him. Makes sense, Milo is probably more scared of the dog than the dog is of Milo. While Mia does not like dogs one bit and will probably protect her flock. I can imagine her lunging at the fence to get the dog away. Anyway, no headbutting dogs today and they moved on fairly quickly.
Beautiful lovely day with goats. Almost a little too hot for me, but I’ll talk about that in the next update. Gotta catch some drinks.

So, it was a beautiful hot day with the goats. I did get a little clobbered. Not by the goats. But by the heat and my own bad habits. I didn’t sleep much last night. And I’d been eating poorly and was already feeling queasy before I headed out. And then being active out in the sun. I think my blood pressure dipped. Got that feeling again when standing up, the blurry vision and almost feeling like I was going to black out. Yeah, this time it wasn’t Mia who wanted to sit in the shade a lot, this time it was me.
The walk home was a bit tough. I took it slow and tried to stay in shade, and took the bus for the part I could. I made it. And hey, I made it back from shopping before I started throwing up. Mmm, that stomach acid burn. Fun times. I had to sit around for 45 minutes or so before I felt ready to start moving again. I think I’ve recovered okay now. Phew. I do love a good sunny day, though. Should have probably prepared an iced drinking bottle beforehand, instead of the lukewarm pepsi max. Ah well.

Feeling much better. Had food and drink just relaxing. Looking at the heatwaves around the world, I suppose I should be glad to live in little cold Denmark. Although I wouldn’t mind a bit more summer. Just a bit.

What do we have here? I don’t know if you can tell, but they put extra fencing up. A sturdier mesh in front of the less sturdy mesh. I am imagining this is related to those kids talking about catching the escaped goat last week. They didn’t put the extra fencing up everywhere, just here. Which is where little Sky has been finding gaps to squeeze out through.
I do think the extra fencing is a little sad since it might make it harder for little humankids to reach through and touch the goats. But hopefully they’ll still manage since it only covers the bottom section. At least hopefully there will be no more escapes. Sha as if, where there’s a goat there’s a way.

Someone must at some point have brought a water melon for the goats. They had eaten all the juicy ‘meat’ of it and the rinds were left discarded on the ground. I broke the rinds into smaller pieces and managed to get the goats to eat most of them. Yum yum. I could have done with a water melon in the heat too. Here’s Milo and Lily assessing the situation.

Good goat times today. I managed to get out. I’ve been feeling slightly fried since the last trip, taken me a bit to get back on top of things. We’ve had some hot sunny days in Denmark, but today was a bit cooler with light rain in between the sunshine. So that helped. And once I got out and going I felt much stronger. So that was nice. And always great to be with the goats. Spent some time in the shelter while it rained and out in the open when the sun shined. Sweet visitors at the fence. A young lady that I’ve seen before (not the one with the dog) who went and picked greens for the goats and was doing a good job of making sure everyone got some. And little kids who got to pet the goats. And Nala the barn kitty dropped by too, it’s been a long time since I saw the kitties so that was good. All in all a good goat time indeed.

Man, sad news from my hometown today. A fourteen year old girl died in a rollercoaster accident in our big amusement park Tivoli Friheden. I’ve been there quite a number of times in my youth. But just heartbreaking. How awful for her family, such a meaningless horrible thing. I can’t help thinking about kids in America dying in school shootings. How awful the parents must feel, sending your kids to somewhere that’s supposed to be a safe place of learning and living and growing, and then losing them forever. Danish parents don’t really have to worry about that, but then to lose your child in an amusement park… devastating.
Sometimes life is really painfully unfair.
