So You Think You Can Exercise
I made it!
Literally. I made my exercise bike. There was a while there where I didn’t think I’d be able to get it all fit together. But I managed. And now I am the proud owner of an exercise bike.
I have taken it for the first spin as well. Just a little one. Four kilometres. Nothing to brag about. But more than enough for me to work up a sweat and a healthy heartbeat. I am very out of shape, no doubt about that. But it’ll come. You’re not supposed to overdo it at first of course. The manual said that beginner’s should only do it twice a week. I’d like to do it somewhat more often than that. Every day, really. Maybe every other day to begin with. It just feels nice. To push yourself a little. Feel the blood flow. I think this is going to be good.
But I know my legs are going to kill me tomorrow! Oh boy. No doubt about that. Even with stretching and warming up and down. They’re still going to keeel me.
Here are a couple of pictures.
Before:
It doesn’t look quite as complicated when all the bits and pieces are still wrapped in cardboard and plastic. But it was a big job, lemme tells ya.
And finished:
My bike. It’s cheap and not very fancy at all. But it does the job.

I’m not THAT old! Ugggh!! ;)
The exerbike looks pretty fancy! Going slow at the beginning is best then work your way up. That’s why the instruction booklet said only twice a week. But if you can do more like three or four times a week, then give it a try. Don’t be surprised with a few aches and pains. But they will go away.
Again: I’m not THAT old!! Ugggh!! ;)

Wow! I didn’t know you were mechanically inclined. Next time I need something put together, I’m going to call on you.
I start looking at instructions and I think “gee, this looks like it’s in a foreign language”. Then I realize I’m looking at the French instructions! I’ll bet your bike instructions were in a “foreign language”, too.
LuisLemmings: you’ve been to the La Brea Tar Pits, haven’t you? Maybe you’ve been around since the Dire Wolves! hee, hee
My husband’s birthday is on Dec. 5th and we kid him about being “older than dirt”. Of course, I don’t want to think about what that makes me be married to!

Hey… it’s got a good sized fuel tank. You’ll be able to go many kilometers on that!

Well done, Plume! Not entirely sure I could’ve put that together.
I demand you get a little gadget on your blog which says how many kilometres you’ve done every day so we can keep an eye on you and of course appluad your efforts!

Luislemmings – For some reason I’m getting these mental images of Grandpa Simpson. Don’t know why :-P
I will take a slow pace at first with the exercising. And by summer I’ll be ready for the Tour de France.
– on my exercise bike in front of the TV, I mean.
Debster – And if you have car trouble just drop by too. You know that band, Mike & the Mechanics? That was originally called Plume & The Mechanics. But then they threw me out because I hogged the spotlight constantly.
I swear it’s true. Most of it.
My instructions were in English in fact. They confused me a little with the word “washers”. I thought I had to get a dishwasher or something. But turns out it was that little thing that goes with the nuts and bolts. Yes, that thing.
And please tell you husbond happy birthday from me! I will have a toast in his honour. Skål!
Stu – Is “fuel tank” a polite reference to my butt? You guys and your butts..
Desiree – That’d be a neat gadget. I just don’t know where to get something like that. I guess I could just type it out manually. But that seems awfully low-tech. So far I’m up to 8 km. Took today off to spare the legs. And the butt.
