Went to see the goats today. With help from my dad. I can’t really cross the road on my own anymore. Not safely anyway. But my dad volunteered to come help me over it. I don’t know what I’d do without my family in these times, I really don’t. I’d be lost. Good thing I have them.
When I got to the playground the first thing that happened was Saad walking up to me and putting his arms around me. So we stood there for a minute while he just hugged me. He must have missed me. It was very sweet, and a little awkard because I am not used to physical closeness like that. But he’s a good kid. Good to see him again.
Good to see the goats as well. It’s a very different dynamic without Finn & Jacob there of course. It’s a lot quieter. It’s very relaxing to just sit in the sunshine with Magnethe and Vanilje. The temperatures have dropped a bit, but there’s still a fair bit of sunshine. So that’s good. I was sitting on the ground, up against the fence. Magnethe came over and sat down against my leg. I always like when they sit down right next to me. Makes me feel like part of the flock. They usually sit down next to goats that they like. You wouldn’t normally see Magnethe and Vanilje sitting down right next to each other. They are rivals. But Finn & Jacob would sit down together. Or one of them with mama Vanilje. So it sort of feels like the goat is saying “you’re my buddy and I like you” when they sit down next to you. And a couple of minutes later Vanilje came and sat on the other side of me. At a respectful distance though, she wouldn’t want to get too close or she’d be afraid that Magnethe would get up and chase her away. They get along pretty okay most of the time, but every now and then Magnethe will just charge and chase Vanilje away. Just so no one forgets who the boss is.
Anyway, it was a lovely thing, sitting there with a goat on each side. Enjoying the sun. A beautiful, peaceful moment. Magnethe was enjoying the sun as well I think. She started making these content, groans, almost snoring. Mads used to do that a lot when he sat in the sun. Happy goat noises.
Now there is a week to the next surgery. I can’t wait. I just want things to happen. It’s getting harder and harder to do things. I have to be careful now. Both today and yesterday I managed to tip over my glass and spill my water. Today it went all over my cell phone. I just talked to my dad on it, and the sound wasn’t too good. I hope I haven’t ruined it. I have also managed to knock my glass off the kitchen counter a couple of times. And the glass is made of… glass. But luckily it’s thick and sturdy glass. So it just bounced off the floor and didn’t break. I have also sent my nuts and berries flying on the floor. And managed to turn on the wrong heating pad on my “stove”. So instead of turning the heat on under the pot of water I turned the heat on under the box of mashed potato powder that I had carelessly left on the other pad. Luckily I realized my mistake before it all went up in flames. I van’t really see what I’m cooking or eating either. I made eggs and fried potatoes, but could not tell the difference. I can barely read the keys on my high-contrast keyboard now.
so I’d like something to happen soon. I’m sure you can understand.

You must really mean a lot to Saad. He must not have very many adults in his life that pay attention to him. He always seems to be surprised that you remember him and know who he is.
I think you are a positive influence in his life just by being kind to him and because you both like going to the playground.
I just donated another pint of blood today. So that’s a grand total of 4 GALLONS! That really seemed impossible when I started donating with that first pint.
Our county fair is this week and we went to see the animals, eat supper, and go through the Art Hall with all the 4-H exhibits. Our shelves we painted were just stuffed full of exhibits! The kids were really involved in submitting entries this year.
We saw cows, sheep, pigs, huge bunnies, hens and roosters, ducks, and of course – goats! Cutest little Boer goats and some other young dairy goats with some very short sharp looking horns. (I think those goatzies must have been filing those horns.)
There was an old one-room school house on the fairgrounds. When I was in grade school, my parents used to go there to vote during presidential elections. It was out in the country and then moved later to the fairgrounds to be preserved.
It still has the old school desks, some old reading primers, and the map of the United States in it. I think they stopped using it in the late 1940’s or 1950’s. My Mom went to a different one-room school house when she was in grade school and really liked it as a kid.
There is also an old barn there with lots of memorabilia from the area and there are plans for an old barber shop and jail to be set up in the future. It’s interesting to see all the old historical buildings, photos, and info from the past.

Debster – He’s a good kid, I’m glad if I can be something positive in his life for sure.
4 gallons of blood in one day, that’s impressive! I hope you’re not too dizzy now. Heeh.
Sounds fun with all the animals. I could use a good fair. Maybe next year they can hold your local fair in Denmark? I’m sure you could convince them. “Denmark, it’s right around the corner guys.” Sure.
