Norm!

Speaking of things I watch, I forgot to mention that I am still watching Cheers. Terribly interesting, I know.

It is nice and slow and linear which is good for my fragmented eyesight. And it’s pleasant. It reminds me of my childhood. Of the days when my brother and I were so small that we could squeeze ourselves down into the same chair. We would sit there and watch Cheers and drink our “lørdags-kakao”. Saturday coco. We were allowed one cup of coco per week, and always got it on Saturdays. We’d try to get our parents to use as much of the coco powder as possible in our glass and then we’d go watch the telly. Good times. That was back when the show was broadcast once per week and sometimes it went away for inexplicable reasons. Back then I didn’t know anything about American TV or “season breaks” or things like that. But if there wasn’t Cheers on Saturdays then there was the Cosby show or ‘Allo ‘Allo or something similar. And we’d always look forward to those shows. It’s quite a different thing today with constant daily reruns and once they’ve gone through all the episodes then they flip the deck and start over from episode 1.

It was so real to me back then, following the characters and their lives. For years and years. I remember when Tasha Yar died on Star Trek TNG and I told my mother because I was all amazed at this incredible unforeseen event and she said “oh well I guess she didn’t want to be on the show anymore”. I’d never thought of it like that. Of actors who might want to quit shows. I figured, if someone died then it was because.. the character died. Not salary negotiations or movie career ambitions. Funny to think of now. Simpler days. Ignorance really is bliss. The more you know, the less things makes sense.

Today I answered a knock at the door. It was the mailman. I had ordered some rechargable batteries. Quick delivery, I ordered them yesterday. I have been getting a little braver when it comes to answering the door. At least as long as it is early in the day and there’s a good chance it’s the mailman. I got those batteries today, and in the last few days I also got the Ultima book. And no less than two CDs. Both from Traci. Traci is very sweet and generous. I remember when my eyesigh improved a little and I returned to Facebook, one of the first things I found was a message from her offering to record herself reading books if I wanted it. I think it’s easier for everyone if I use Audible (and Nota, the Danish library service for the handicapped, if I ever get my membership approved) but what a wonderful offer it was nonetheless. Thank you Traci!

Now it’s almost time for more of mama’s world famous chicken soup. Another pot to be cooked on Sunday. Looking forward to that. Excellent timing, as my stomach seems to be finally fairly functioning again. After almost a month of intermittent constipation and diarrhea. Now I well reward it by filling it with soup. And then on Monday I have the rescheduled doctor visit for diabetes blood sampes. And on Wednesday, I think, it’s back to the hospital to get back on track with the eye care. We’re supposed to be getting the oil out of the left eye soon, but I have a feeling that my right eye is still not as it should be, so I bet I’ll need another round of lasers for that first. Still, in the next 3-4 months there’s a good chance it will all be done and then I’ll get to see what I have left. To see.
Fingers crossed, always.

Saturday cocoa sounds like a wonderful tradition. I might have to start something like that with my family! Glad you liked the cds & I appreicate your comments -but Lasse – YOU are surely one of the kindest people I am acquainted with even if it is just over the internets.=) Anyway, I’m crossing my fingers for you. Enjoy your weekend & your chicken soup.

It’s a very nice tradition yes. When you’re only allowed one cup per week then you really look forward to it. And then we all sat down together at the telly. Twas nice. We had another Saturday tradition. Lørdagsslik. Saturday sweets. Every Saturday we’d get 10 kroners or so that we could spend on candy. That was before we got allowance, I guess. It’s like a dollar or two, no fortune. But we’d still look forward to our Saturdays with candy and coco, what a treat.
I rhink karma works. I try to be a nice person, and I get nice persons like you in return. Not too bad.

We also had that with candy on saturdays: lørdagsgodt. And there would be special things on TV, like MacGyver or Scali or (migawd) Derrick that the whole family would watch :)

Katrine – Ooh MacGyver. I used to love him when I was a wee one. Then I forgot about him, until I started watching Simpsons and the aunts were obsessed with him. Hah. I think I also quite liked Scali. If he is who I think he is. I think it was called Krimisæren in Denmark. And he had a son who was played by a kid with a Danish-sounding name, which always fascinated me.
    Never heard of Derrick though

Derrick was a german veeeeeery slow paced crime investigation series. Therw would be one murder per episode, and it would be solved by slowly interviewing the aquaintances of the deceased and the bring in someone unlikely as the culprit. Or at least that is how I remember it.

I forgot to mention “Rex”, the Austrian series with the german shepherd dog, I loved that too! Scali was also a crime series, with the main character being a smallish, roundish, balding police cheif, if my memory serves me – so probably the same as you refer to.

MacGyver was and remains a hero of mine ;)

  6. Plume Says:

katrine – I’m pretty sure Scali is the same one, yes. Still don’t know Derrick. The only German series I remember watching was called “Der Alte”. The old guy. I think it was a crime thing too. And I seem to recall Der Alte dying and anotheR Alte taking over. Vaguely. Don’t know Rex either! Heh. How About Taggart? That was a long running one too. I was bummed when he died. Then the assistant took over I think. Jardine? Memories memories.
