Gym And Tonic
I am feeling the effects of spring after all. For the last few days I have actually been able to turn off my heating system. That’s very nice. Over the winter my heating bill has been quite large. Twice as big as last year I think. I have been prepared for that, though. I have the finances to afford the luxury of not freezing. I really need to turn up the heat at night, otherwise my poor circulation will leave my feet frozen. I think the normal advice is to lower the heat during the night. So I am a little vice versa in that respect. A couple of years ago I would usually turn off the heat entirely during the night, even at winter. Things change.
Have I mentioned that I bought some new fitness equipment? Nothing spectatcular. Just a starter pack. With a matt, a gym ball, a massage ball, a pilates band and a pump. For the balls. To go with my dumbbells and the stationary bike (did you know that “The Stationary Bike” is the title of a Stephen King short story?). So now I can have a little more variation when I am exercising. Nothing I’m going to go overboard with, though. It’s a little hard to find good exercises, when you can hardly see the illustrations. I find it hard to really visualize them from text descriptions. But a little bit is better than nothing. I could be doing a lot more exercising than I am doing, but I am slowly adding more and more stuff, more and more time. For a guy who is pretty lazy at heart, I think I’m doing okay. I am doing something every day, maybe not a full program every day, but something. I kinda wish I could get more equipment. Real stuff. A treadmill, a rowing machine, a crosstrainer. Some ribs would be nice. That weightlifting machine. And a personal trainer to talk me through the exercises. You think I could fit all that in my tiny apartment? Basically I want to have the gym from the Reva Center back. Remember that? A little room full of professional equipment that I had pretty much to myself most of the time, plus a trainer with a charming british accent who helped me with the basics and then let me do my own thing. That was neat. I could especially use some guidance with the back exercises. I have back pains quite often. When sitting at the computer for longer stretches of time. Or walking. I’m trying to do some exercises for it, I just hope I’m not making it all worse.
It would really be a good idea to actually join a proper gym. But realistically speaking I know, it’s just not going to happen. With the blindness and the phobia and the laziness. I could tell you I would try, but I would be lying. I’m doing the best I can, though.
Also still enjoying the remainders of mama’s soup and planning to go see the animals tomorrow. And my birthday is on Monday. Monday! MONDAY!

Do some exercising for me, ok?
I have a cold and cannot breathe. Luckily I can still type. Hee, hee My husband said last night, I sounded like the asthmatic rhino in the movie “Jumanji”.
I feel like an asthmatic rhino today! I am also not working today. I’ve been reading Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Dorian is a bit creepy so far…and not a very nice person.
I’ll probably have some odd dreams tonight about a wheezy rhino who never ages.

i liked that Stephen King story – have you listened to it? Congrats on your new equipment & kudos to you for starting a routine..Sounds like you’re sticking with it. =)

Hay, hay! I just mailed your birthday card today. It will probably get there after your birthday.
What with this cold and missing work, nothing is getting done on time. I am still breathing, but not much!

I must read that SK short!

Debster – I don’t remember the asthmatic rhino from Jumanji! But then I haven’t seen that movie in ..10 years. Or something.
I will do some exercises for you. I hope that will help you get better. I guess I should have shared the soup after all. Next time. Maybe.
Traci – I am doing my best! And yes, I have listened to that story. It’s in the Just After Sunset collection that I finished a week ago or so.
Katt – You certainly must. Get to it!

Somebody’s birthday is coming up soon!
PS: I can breathe a little better today. I went to work in the morning and then I donated blood in the afternoon. (There were home-made cookies there. I’d do just about anything for a cookie!)

I need to take a moment and tell you I’m proud of you for the Twitter Widget you added.

Debster – Is it yours?
Oh my god wait ITS MINE! MIIIINE! I’m not too old to get excited.
I think you are exhibiting some goat traits in your cookie addiction!
Katt – Haha. Really? Why? Because I’m so awesome?

Happy Birthday in advance. Treadmills are expensive, they’re the kind of thing i could consider if i was ever going to start exercising (which i NEED). You’re doing great because you’ve actually started, a lot of us (like me) never get that far.
I haven’t read your blog for a while so i dont know if this has been answered or not, can you do “other things” while riding the stationary bike? like listening to music or reading without either just hearing your heart beating or getting sweat in your eyes?

belgarion – Long time no see! Thank you. Nice to hear from you again. I’m not sure how expensive a treadmill is, but I imagine I could afford it. It’s more the space that is a problem. I’d have to get rid of my exercise bike to fit any new, big equipment in. And I like my bike too much to consider that.
I don’t think reading while on the bike would work. Only if it was an audiobook. Music would definitely work. Personally I use Craig Ferguson talkshows. I get too bored with music. So I put a Ferguson show on the computer and listen to that. Keeps me interested and smiling through the workout.
