2010; The End
The year is running out. There’s about an hour left at the time this post goes live.
I had dinner with the family. A nice and quiet time. Kinda like christmas just without the presents. It was less cold than christmas too, thankfully. Although I went over an hour or so later this time, so it was darker. And with constant fireworks in the sky. All those explosions can be a little disorienting when you can’t see much. But it’s not a long walk at least.
Now I am back at home. I do sort of miss the good old days of new year’s eves at the old place, at midnight. But I don’t like being away from my apartment for too long on a night like this. And I wouldn’t like going home when all the fireworks are at their worst after midnight. So just a couple of hours with the family, and then I’ll spend the rest of the night back here. I’ll watch the fireworks through my window, if I can see them. And wait for my parents to call. And that’s all there is to it. Tomorrow is another year.
I’m not going to do any big year-in-review thing. It seems like a lot of my year has been spent waiting. For doctors and stuff. It obviously hasn’t been a great year, because of my eye situation. But at least it’s been better than last year I think. And it has ended on a positive note with the slight improvement from the cataracts treatment. I am still running my computer at 1024×768 and feeling all the little benefits from seeing clearer. That was the high point. The low point was the death of Vanilje, something I still haven’t really dealt with emotionally because I just can’t think about it without getting awfully sad and upset. So I just don’t. I rather think of Grethe, our sweet new goat girl. The circle of life, etc.
I hope everyone out there will get through the night safely. Remember, friends don’t let friends fire off explosives drunk.
Happy new year!

Happy New Year, my dear danish goat boy!
We’re hoping for a better year in 2011. One with less rain during the summer so we can work outside and no more moving to another house.
It really warmed up today and melted most of our snow. We had the animals out to graze and I was able to comb everyone so they’ll all look nice on New Year’s Eve.
Of course, I don’t think they are going anywhere on New Year’s Eve, but they’ll sure look pretty! hee, hee
We’re staying in tonight, maybe have a few snacks, watch TV or read and maybe stay up till midnight. It’s supposed to get quite cold, windy, and re-freeze tonight, so probably not a good evening to be outside anyway.

Debster – Happy new year! I hope the weather god’s will go easy on you in two eleven.
Did you make it to midnight?
Also, I got the new gloveymittens! Thank you so much. They will be very handy indeed. Do you need anything from Denmark? How about the Little Mermaid statue? I think she’s back from Japan by now. Maybe she could go to Iowa for a while.

Yes, I stayed up till midnight on New Year’s Eve. Glad to hear you received the glove/mittens. We couldn’t find another pair exactly like the first pair. But thought these looked a little dressier for going to the doctor or the store.
Commercials: there are two new “What’s In Your Wallet” commercials out. The Vikings are in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and they have a pretty little brown, black, and white goat wearing sunglasses who sings at the very first of the commercial and at the end.
The other one has the Vikings and a donkey with sunglasses in a limo, I think. I believe there is a goat in there somewhere, too.
I thought it was funny because we have goats and a donkey and you are of Viking descent. Art imitates life! hee, hee

Debster – The new gloveymittens are equally good. I took them out for the first time today, to go to the doctor. Nobody commented on them but I think they were all very impressed. Certainly I was.
Vikings and goats, I can certainly see the connections!
