Et Vaklende Og Fortvivlet Halleluja
I just came back from the Tina Dickow concert.
It was amazing. Wonderful. It was so good. I am so glad I went. So happy that I got the chance to go. I even talked to a stranger at the bus stop, haha. Social phobia kiss my butt.
Wonderful concert. The tour is called “Alene”. Alone. She is great on stage, Tina. Just her and a guitar in part one. Joined by guitarist Dennis Ahlgren in part two.
It’s still hard to believe that it’s the same girl. That girl on stage, that’s the girl who was just a normal kid in school. Just like me, almost. Now she is like something else. You know those X-files kinda stories with genetically engineered super soldiers? I suspect that the government is creating genetically enhanced super musicians. You know, to combat all the crap music out today. And Tina is the super singer. It is awe inspiring. Her voice booming through the room, her beauty, her sweetness. When I see her like that on stage it’s hard to believe we are even from the same race of people.
Not that I’m biased or anything. I’m completely objective.
The venue was great too. So much better than the last time I saw her. That was in a nightclub, with people who didn’t come for the music. Who sat and talked and sang drinking chants. This was a small room, everyone seated, everyone there to hear the music. And Århus is her home town, so that doesn’t hurt the atmosphere either.
I would say that it was a perfect concert, but there was one little niggle in the beginning of set two. When Dennis joined in. Something about a wire that wasn’t working. I think. But it got fixed. And now that I have gushed over Tina I must say that Dennis was amazing too. The other times I have seen Tina I have sort of been focused on her, because I know her and all. But it was great watching Dennis today too. I don’t care what you say, real boys want to grow up and be a guitar player. Astronauts and firemen, those jobs are for girls. Or for boys who can’t play guitar. (At this point I throw a glance at the guitar standing in the corner, the one I haven’t touched for five-six months).
She played Halleluja. I love that song. On paper it sounds like the stupiddest idea. Making Danish versions of Leonard Cohen songs. But it works. Normally she sings it as a duet with Steffen Brandt. But she did it on her own today, and it was just so good.
She was funny too. Great stage banter. The one about Willie Nelson’s tour bus! Holy cow! Literally! Haha. My favourite was the bit about how she turned down a performance for the Danish “kulturkanon” thing. If you’re Danish you know what it is. And you know why turning down that performance is a great thing. I hope.
I bought her DVD after the show. Shame on me for not buying it the day it came out. But you know me, the master of procrastination. There’s nothing you can do today that can’t be done next month too. I like having bought it at the show though. It makes a nice story for the grandchildren. It gives it a little added history.
Hah, this was supposed to be just a quick little update. I do go on.
Another concert under my belt. That’s the third time I’ve seen Tina. When I’m feeling down and useless it’s worth remembering that it’s not that long ago that I had never gone to a single concert and that I couldn’t imagine being able to do it. Now I’m practically a veteran. I should buy a ticket for the Spot festival this year too. Tina’s concert on Spot last yeard was my first ever concert. She isn’t in the lineup this year, but there are good bands in it I think. It would be a good thing to do. I’m definitely seeing Tina again when she plays in Friheden. Must be next month. And I already got tickets for her show in December.
I do go on.
I walked home in the cool evening. With the moon high in the sky. Replacing the warm May sun that was shining when I left home earlier. A beautiful day. In so many ways.
But tomorrow is a work night, so I better stop going on.
Do yourself a favour, go see Tina if she comes to your town. She’s only going to get bigger. She has conquered Denmark, next stop the world. There is no stopping the Danish army of super musicians.
Update: Aagh, I have lost my memory card. My 512mb card for my camera. I had an extra 16mb card with me. I swapped them towards the end of the show. I must have dropped my primary one. Crap. That means I have to buy a new one. But worst of all, it means I have lost 512mb of pictures and videos from the show. F**k. Oh well. No reason tearing out my hair over it. I guess I’ll check with Musikhuset’s lost and found. Maybe I’ll get lucky. But most likely I won’t. It’s a tiny little card.
There is always a silver lining, in my pants.
