Welfared

If you are interested in how it’s going with Lauren and Gabby the goat then you should go read her latest entry. It’s not a very cheerful entry though.

I can really relate to a lot of what she writes about the goats. “They’ve opened up a door through which I can concieve of living a meaningful life”. Me too. And about how fun the goats are. And special. Yes. I’m lucky that Mads and Magnethe are “pet goats”. So if they got sick they would probably get the best treatment they could. If they got sick and the playground couldn’t afford treatment I’d surely do all I could to help.

You would be stupid for not caring.

I’m so sorry to hear Gabby isn’t doing so well. Laura, I know how much she means to you. Our two pygmy goats have changed me and my husband’s lives as well. They mean so much to us and enrich our lives so much.

By all means I would call and see about treatment for her. No matter what you find out, you’ll feel like you’ve tried to help as much as possible.
It is frustrating when you feel powerless to help a sick animal because of finacial problems or when the animal is just too sick for any meaningful cure to happen.

Please keep us updated, we care about goats especially, but also about so many other animals.

I just read Lauren’s journal entry. If you’re reading this, I think you must give UC Davis a try. I’m down here in southern california while UC Davis is in northern california and I hear UC Davis has a wonderful vet school up there. It wouldn’t hurt to email or call them.

Or try calling around different animal doctors or hospitals. The most they would say is no, but at least you’re giving it a try. There are tons of people who say they’re animal lovers. But when it comes down to the wire, would any of them help out a goat who obviously is not doing well?

Just like Debster said, we’re big goat lovers, but lovers of all animals as well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out well.

    Peace and love…

Thanks very much for all your care and good thoughts. I’m hoping for the best without a hospital visit at this time…
That’s the reason I love this blog – so many goat lovers, and the blog run by someone who feels the same way about our caprine companions as myself. Who’da thunk goats could have such power over depression and sadness?
Anyway… thanks again for all the well-wishes. Will keep you posted for as long as I’m with Gabby (only 2 more weeks now!) and again when it’s time for me to adopt her and B.J. (Fall/Winter ’07)

Debster + Luis Lemmings – I am lucky to know people like you guys.

Laura – We’re all hoping for the best. Goats are great, as I’m known to mutter from time to time. Man, I wish I could adopt Mads and Magnethe. I would raise them as my own!

Ahhh shucks, Plume. *blush, blush* Luis Lemmings and I are awesome, aren’t we. And we are soooo modest, too.

Laura: Glad to hear things are going better for you. I hate that feeling when everything goes wrong at once. I think I could handle one problem at a time, but not several at once. I think you’re worried about Gabby and BJ and you’re thinking about your future, too. And darn it, life is always so uncertain, isn’t it? For goats and people.
