Respect + Adore
Okay dokey. Time to reveal the uber-secret video project. It all started early last morning…
Cue flashback music and wavy lines.
I was up too early. My sleeping has been bonkered (scientific term) this holiday. Probably because of the missing meds. And also because my dad’s brother has the unfortunate habit of turning on the light when he goes to the bathroom. Which triggers the air-cleaning system. Which makes a lot of noise. Also one time they woke me up to help with the computers.
So anyway. I happened upon Terra Naomi on youtube. Loved the song, loved the voice. And loved the video with “normal” people posing with signs. And then I saw that she’s redoing the video. And asking for submissions. And of course being up this early always gives me delusions of grandeur. So I decided I wanted to try to make a submission. The topic is “What would you wish for yourself or the world if anything was possible?” and you have to do it in 3 words or less. My first thought was to do something dark and serious and sombre. Something about my life and situation. Something like “love myself” or “make my life better” or “stop all war”. But then I realized that I had already stopped all war with my computer game idea. And I also realized that I had access to the very finest possible video subject. Goats. Some kind of video with me and the goats and a message about caring about animals or some other silly notion like that.
This happened around 8 am Sunday morning. And I figured, if I’m going to go to the playground and shoot a video what better time than Sunday morning? No people. I’d be able to set it all up without interruptions, distractions or awkward questions. It’s rather out of character for me to be that spontaneous I think. But I grabbed the tri-pod I bought a year or two ago and went to the playground and made the video.
The result has to be 15 seconds long at the most. And 10 mb size at the most. But you know me. I can’t limit myself when I take pictures or make videos of the goats. So here is the raw footage: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VrRSqoD6YT8. 7 minutes long. How am I ever going to make a 15 second clip of that? Hah. I’ll probably make a couple of clips. But anyway, if you go watch the video then you’ll see me, Nina and the goats. And a sheep head or two. I wasn’t planning on having Nina in it, but as I was setting up my camera I heard her meowing and saw her came out of the hole in the roof on the rabbit house where she has her little corner. I am sure she thought I was coming to feed her. Just like she came to the door and meowed on Saturday when I actually was there to feed her. But now she got to be in a video instead. Climbing around on me while I tried to get her and my quickly drawn sign in the frame.
RESPECT + ADORE the ANIMALS. That ended up being the message.
I’m sure I won’t get to be in the music video. For any number of reasons, like the poor technical quality of the video, the poor look of my morning tired self, or just the unoriginality of the message. But who cares. It was fun. And I do think the goats ought to be international superstars, so I had to try. I especially like how they all keep trying to eat the sign! Haha. I kinda figured that would happen. That delicious paper. Mmm. Vanilje was kind of afraid of it though. At first she found it scary and backed off. Later on she was nibbling from it too.
That’s all. I feel like I’m on American Idol or something. But at least I’m not going to be insulted by a panel of judges. I think.
PS. Debster, you better not say anything about me hamming it up!

Your video was so good! The sheep head popping up over the rail, Nina at the beginning walking all over you, and your poor sign “Respect & Adore the Animals” with all the nibble marks on it! Vanilje was doing her little tap dance and head rolls while she was on the bench.
I think a sign saying “Respect & Adore the Plume” would be appropriate. Mads was just so happy to be near you, getting scratches, and chewing on the sign. Those silly, silly goats . . . well all the animals adore you.
I watched the Terra Naomi video. What a wonderful song. You always introduce me to so many new songs, videos, etc. What would I do without you?
Guess what we saw today??? Three day old twin baby Boer goats. They are so beautiful. Our neighbor (with Hank & Iris) has more nannies about ready to pop, so will be more baby goatzies to visit.
PS: Ham, ham, hammy, ham, ham! Must be something about goats being such personalities that it rubs off on their peoples! You just can’t help it that you are sooooo “hammy”, it’s the influence of those silly, silly goats. My goodness, hammy & spontaneous all in the same day.
