The Savoy
Hmm. Yesterday I suddenly experienced a complete emotional shutdown. Felt very bad all of a sudden. I ended up going to bed. It wasn’t even 9 pm. I’m not sure what happened. And I slept the whole night through, pretty much. Woke up a couple of times, but just turned over and fell back asleep. I got up at 7:30 and felt nice and fresh. Odd. Maybe I just needed a long sleep like that.
I made more elderberry soup.
Mmm. I like elderberry soup. I could have arranged it a bit classier, but this ain’t haute cuisine. And as you can tell, I REALLY like my flourballs.
Let’s say hi to the buck again.
I like what Debster said ” If his ears were any longer, he’d be stepping on them”. They match the length of his beard nicely there. He’s making more sounds now, funny buck sounds.
Magnethe and Vanilje still don’t seem impressed, they prefer to run away from him. And Magnethe something butting horns.
And Mads is naturally no too pleased with the situation. It’s really rather unfair, to suddenly have to share the place with a buck who is not only “intact” but also bigger than he is.Suddenly he’s not number one in the hierarchy.
I made a little video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bpJrQRdUCBc. There you can see their typical reactions when they get close. Most of the time they just stay apart and there’s no real trouble. And he won’t be staying too long, the buck. So things will be back to normal soon, Mads. I hope his ego doesn’t get hurt. I make sure that he feels that he’s still number one with me. It’s sweet when he comes running to me.
He’s got his own little box inside the pen now. Kurt told me that when they put the goats inside then Mads runs straight to his own box, he doesn’t feel like sharing space with the buck if he doesn’t have to.
You are still number one for me, Mads.
It was a sunny day today, always nice when the goats sit down and relax in the sun. Especially when I get to sit down next to them.
Also, a quick video of Gertrude: http://youtube.com/watch?v=eGNjJnV9C5o. Unfortunately I didn’t get the whole scene. She was really enjoying herself, rolling around and throwing hay around. Kurt had just put a bail of hay in to her and she grabbed it with her mouth and flung it all around. You’ll hear Kurt and I laughing in the video.
Now, I want my kitten!

So do you mash the elderberries, add some sugar and seasonings, cook for awhile and then add the dumplings (aka flourballs)? It looks good in your pix.
In the Mads vs Buck video, I can really see the buck is much bigger than Mads. Mads appears to be the giant pygmy goat of Denmark in your pictures. But he’s just a itty bitty goat like our boys! The magic of photography. Don’t tell Mads I said he was an itty bitty goatzie!
Gertrude was “hamming it up” in your video according to your description – that’s funny. Doesn’t everyone enjoy a good romp in their hay? hee, hee
You need to ask Kurt for me what is his secret to happiness. He’s always so pleasant to the visitors at the playground and really seems to enjoy watching the animals.
Must be to really enjoy your job so much that it doesn’t seem like work. Although I’m sure he puts in some hard hours keeping the playground looking nice, cleaning out stalls, and fixing fences when ornery horses decide they make good scratching posts!
PS: Going to bed at 9:00 p.m. and waking up at 7:30 am sounds like a dream come true for me. And to feel refreshed, too. I don’t feel like I’ve slept sometimes. That was a NORMAL night’s sleep for most of us, Plumey. Pretty nice, wasn’t it? Keep up the good sleeping habits!

Debster – I’m afraid I have someone to do all the hard work for me. Namely the supermarket. I buy the soup frozen. All I really do is pop it in a pot, add a teeny bit of water and then when it’s boiling I fill it up with as many flourballs as I can fit in there!
My mother makes it from scratch in the summer. It was a tradition when I was a kid, we’d go out and pick elderberries. There was a sport nearby where they grew. And we’d come back with bags and bags full of them and my mother would cook them up a treat. Nowadays we actually have elderberry bushes in our back yard and I do believe my mother still picks them in the summer and makes her special elderberry soup. It’s not quite as amazing as her world famous chicken soup, but it’s quite good nonetheless.
The frozen stuff is pretty good too, though. At least it’s not an “add powder” soup hehe.
I have the same impression of Mads, because I’m always sitting down. So he always seems huge to me too! And then when I stand up, suddenly I’m the big one and I have to lean down to scratch his head. Size is relative.
I like rolling in the hay. Maybe some day I’ll bring a date!
I think Kurt’s secret must be animals, I know that one works for me at least. And he gets to work with animals and then go home to even more animals. I think that’s a pretty good life. And yes, he’s always happy and smiling and generous and just my prototype for a nice human being.
Funny, now that I think about it 9-7.30 isn’t a completely outrageous sleep. But I prefer to stay up a little later than that, and sleep a little logner. In fact it’s midnight right now and I’m about to turn in. PArdon my typing, my eyelids are droooooping.

You are a “night owl” my friend!
