A Fear Of Flying Without Wings
Today I fed the animals. It was much nicer than the last time, when I had the sickness and aching back. Today I felt fine.
It wasn’t without complications, though. The horses were being quite frisky. They didn’t really feel like coming in when I was done feeding everybody. In fact they started galloping around. And Sille even jumped up and kicked with her two hind legs. Whoa. That was scary. She’s a big horse. Good thing I wasn’t close to her when she did it. A blow to the head with that force could probably kill a guy, I would not be surprised. When she did that I decided to take a little timeout. I went and closed the goat house and said goodbyes to them. And then I went and got a bucketful of wheat, which helped a lot with the horses. Although they still weren’t too keen on going inside. But I managed.
More troubling, however, was the silence of the lambs. They didn’t baah when I unlocked the chain to the doors. Why? Because they were not there. I didn’t get a chance to talk to Kurt yesterday, but I think it’s fairly safe to assume that he has taken them back to his place. Which means no more Mini or Dotty. That makes me sad. They were so cute and sweet and funny. It always sucks when animals have to leave. I hope I will see them again some day. When the day comes when they will have lambs of their own, maybe they’ll come to the playground to raise them. I hope so. I will especially miss Mini, the tiniest little lamb I ever did see. In the end she wasn’t that small, she almost caught up with Dotty. But oh boy it always made me laugh how small she was compared to her brother and the two others. And she always scrunched up like that. Sigh. I didn’t even get to say goodbye.
Oh and I forgot to say thank you to Corrie. She sent me more of my old junk. Haha. I sent her the weirdest things back in the day. See, she thought I was a trick made up by her friends. So I wanted to prove that I was real. How do you prove that you exist? Apparently by sending lots of weird Danish stuff through the mail. Those were the days.
And that’s about it.

Oh, so you aren’t really a figment of my imagination? You are REAL? Just like Pinocchio, you’re a real boy. Wow! (I always thought your nose was rather long) hee, hee (Where does Corrie live?)
Must be something in the air . . . gave the goats all a nice long walk with leaves, grass, corn and headed for the pen. Two of them followed me in, but John Boy wouldn’t come in. He just stood outside the door. Usually the ones inside go out and the outside goat comes in, so I end up with less goats inside than I started with.
He finally had enough fun with me, I guess, and came inside. They are sure now that “someone” is missing from the flock. They keep looking around for my husband and baaaing softly (Frankie) or loudly BAAAING (Billy) while John Boy justs looks quietly.
Will miss seeing pictures of the wooly sheeps. It was fun to watch them grow. They look so different from our sheeps around here.
The fall tree colors are really pretty this weekend and I’ll bet yours are too, Plume. Poor LuisLemmings, no pretty fall leaves.

This time of the year we have those awful “Santa Ana” winds where hot, dry winds come in from the east and make everything dry.
It’s when we fires all over Southern CA. So we’re bracing for it. And yes, no wonderful fall leaves like they have in the midwest and eastern parts of the US.
I’m going to miss the sheepies very much. They always reminded me of big fluffy pillows with huge sad eyes. I hope they come back one day.
It always makes me kind of sad to see one or more leave.

LuisLemmings: I see you’ve had some high wind warnings in your area and there are some fires in Malibu. Hope you and the turtles are keeping safe this weekend!

The fire fighers haven’t been able to stop the fires here!! The fires are mainly in the east county and I was with a close friend in that part of the county just last week. He was looking for a home to use as a vacation place. He has a lot of horses that his daughters and wife like to ride.
Man, it’s not good news. You could smell the smoke and there’s a haze just as the sun was setting. The smoke here plus the smoke up in LA and Malibu will make things pretty awful tomorrow.
I talked to a friend who lives near Sunset Blvd and he said the winds are pretty fierce and there’s black smoke everywhere there.
I was there just two weeks ago driving through Beverly Hills and through the Hollywood Hills and Studio City with that same friend, and I told him maybe it’s not a good idea to get a place near Malibu since every year there’s always a fire in that part of LA. I’m glad he took my advice.
What you’re seeing on TV is nothing!! It’s pretty bad to be honest. Luckily, none of my friends and family are hurt. My friend and his wife are somewhere in London now I believe. But they don’t live anywhere near those awful fires up north, thank goodness!
So far, down here, only 5% is contained with 14,000 acres burned, and there’s two more days of this Santa Ana winds. I’ve been hearing more evacuations hour after hour for neighborhoods close to the fire areas.
Up in LA county and Malibu, the fires there haven’t been stopped and the celebrities have been ordered to evacuate. Malibu is beautiful but you wouldn’t pay me to live there!!
As for the turtles, they’ve been inside. I didn’t want them outside in the patio. I hope people around have been keeping their pets inside. Believe me, there will be tons of smoke and ash tomorrow morning!!

So far the county has evacuated over 250,000 people and more areas of the city are under “mandetory evacuation.”
My sister and her son live up in the north part of San Diego and been asked to leave along with everyone in her neighborhood. She called me early this morning to tell me the news. They can’t come down here since the freeways are clogged so they’re going to Los Angeles to my other sister who lives closer to the ocean in Pacific Palisades.
Man, it’s awful!! I can’t even begin to describe what’s happening. Lots of smoke, ash, and strong winds.

LuisLemmings: Sorry to hear your sister and son have to evacuate and hopefully are able to quickly get to your other sister’s house to safety.
I take it you arent’ in the line of fire where you’re at? I would image (if you’re at home) they’re telling you to stay put and off the highways unless there’s an emergency?
Wish I could send you some of our rain today. It’s not much, just been cloudy and sprinkling off and on all day. We’ve had some high winds (20-30) mph the last few days. Luckily things are still green here with lots of vegetation so we don’t have the dirt/sand blowing around like you do.
Hope you continue to be safe and don’t have to evacuate. Do they tell you where to go or do you have someplace safe to go? Keep us updated, okay?
We always worried about my husband’s parents when they were still living. (They used to live in the high desert – Yucca Valley.) I have seen where lightening had set fires in Joshu Tree National Monument, but I was never out there when there were actual fires going on. Just seeing what it looked like afterwards was shocking enough to me.

Debster – Hmm, are you saying my acting is “wooden”? I’m going to have to make some more videos to disprove you!
Corrie is from the US of A.
You should print out a picture of your husband and bring it with you, so the goats won’t miss him. And by “miss him” I of course miss the paper when they try to bite it!
LuisLemmings – Wow, it sounds scary. Fire is a force to be reckoned with. I hope you and your family and lizards and turtles will all be okay. I hope you’ll get some cool winds soon. Stay safe!
