The Great Escapist

When I said “funny/surprising” I actually meant more like “mildly amusing/not expected”. I didn’t mean to embellish. Anyways. The funniest thing that happened while I was feeding the animals yesterday was the great flight of Mads the goat.

I was filling food in buckets when I heard the goats baahing loudly. I figured they were just anxious to get their food, but when I got out of the fodder house I saw why especially Vanilje and Magnethe were baahing. It was because Mads had escaped!

mads

Oh Mads, you silly goat. He’s still in his own booth to keep him separated from the buck. And I guess someone hadn’t closed the door properly. Or perhaps I had knocked it open by accident when I greeted the goats, as seen in yesterday’s video. In any case, Mads saw his chance to go outside. Maybe looking for me, or more likely looking for the food.

He seemed a bit wary with the situation though. It’s a long, long time since they’ve been allowed to walk around freely out front. And of course he was all alone, with the rest of the gang locked up inside. So he stood there and looked back and forth while I laughed and grabbed at my camera. It looked like he was pondering his choices… “Hmm, do I make a run for it and head for the border and escape to Mexico… or do I go up to Plume, who is carrying several buckets of goat food…”. A hard decision, I’m sure you’ll agree.

In the end he followed me back into the goat house and into his own booth and he seemed quite content as I filled his personal bucket. What does Mexico have to offer better than ones private bucket of food anyway?

And there is proof that I got him back inside. Peeking up just as the flash goes off.

But that was kinda fun. I wish the goats could just walk around freely all the time. If I were in charge I’d set them free. Of course I’d have to find a way to keep them from running up in the residential blocks. And to Mexico, not forgetting.

vanilje

Almost looks like Vanilje is trying to escape too.

She could only manage to get one hoof up there, though.

The second surprise of the day was Bodil and her dog Lulu dropping by. They were going to the park, to enjoy the lovely weather. Nice seeing them, as always. Talked for a while with Bodil. About the christmas party, amongst other things. She has been invited this year as well, so we’re looking forward to that.

lulu

And Lulu, the cute little raggamuffin. Bodil always makes sure to tell me that Lulu doesn’t just take to everybody. But she has taken to me. I bent down and scratched her chin for a while. Then I got back up to talk to Bodil, and Lulu proceeded to jump up my leg to get my attention. She’s a small dog, she barely reached higher than my knee. But what a lot of fun she is.

And I capped off the hard work-day with a little Nina-time. Because there’s always time for a little Nina.

I CAN HAS SLEEP NOW?!

I didn’t know Mads could “fly”!

I was going to wish you “Happy Thanksgiving”, but I think that is an American holiday. We’re going to my Mom & Dad’s house on Thursday for turkey, dressing (stuffing), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, peas, hot rolls, apple salad, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and apple pie. Sounds like a lot of food for 4 people, doesn’t it?

Lots of leftovers to take home . . . mmmmm …. turkey sandwiches and pie! My Mom got a 13 pound whole frozen turkey to cook in the oven.

We watch parades on TV, football, eat too much food, and then the men in the family usually take a nap while us ladies clean up. It’s a nice holiday since you don’t have to buy presents, shop in busy stores, decorate very much, etc. Sort of count your blessings and what you’re thankful for sort of day.

I think Mads was a bit lonely since he didn’t have the other goats to be boss over. So it was good you were there just in time or he would have wondered over to areas that may not be safe for him to be at.

Does Denmark have a Thanksgiving Day like here in the States?? Debster is right about the food. There is so much that we eat; no wonder we’re a nation of chubbies!

I try not to eat too much. I’m going to my parents’ house, too. My mother cooks way too much and I always end up bringing leftovers home. I’m not a big turkey fan though it is low in fat. I usually eat turkey meat only on Thanksgiving anyway.

Debster, are you going shopping on Black Friday? My friend wants to go, but the idea of getting up sooo early in the morning isn’t something I’m looking forward to. But I’ve seen the ads and the bargains are tempting. I haven’t decided yet.

Also, Vanilje looks as though she’s doing exercises, leg stretches to be precise. Mmmm…I think she’s in better shape than me!

  4. Debster Says:

NO, NO, NO LuisLemmings! NO shopping on Black Friday for me. I worked in a retail store for 10 years (in a past life) and I vowed never to be in a store during those busy, busy hours ever again.

I still have nightmares about customers running into us store employees with their shopping carts, customers fighting over the last toy that everyone wants for Christmas, it was like a shark feeding frenzy (the customers were the sharks and the store employees were the chum!)

Then there would be some stupid toy train, or toy barking dog, or Christmas music blaring away all day long. Noise, noise, noise. Consumerism at its worst! I tend to shop during the off hours or on-line where it’s quiet. Too much noise, people, traffic, etc., is just too overwhelming for me.

I sound like the Grinch, but I do really like Christmas in small doses!

Debster – Oh you’d be surprised! You think bumblebees defy nature, just wait till you’ve seen Mads floating through the air!
We don’t do thanksgiving in Denmark, no. I like the bit about saying thanks for the things you appreciate. Although judging from American sitcoms it often goes awry. I will make sure to let the goats know that I am thankful for knowing them. I think they’d prefer nuts and raisins to a big turkey dinner though.
Leftovers are great. I love when I get to bring leftovers home from dinner with the parents.
You worked in a retail store? There is so much I don’t know about you. Where were you in 1996? Hmm? Enquiring minds want to know. Actually, where was i in 1996? Hmm. This is all very mysterious,

LuisLemmings – He would probably have wandered over to the food, knowing him.
We don’t have thanksgiving day in Denmark. They’re trying to push Halloween on us, but not thanksgiving. I am thankful for that. No, that was just a little joke.
Black Friday eh? That sounds dramatic. Dun-dun-dun. I hope you will all get through it unscathed.

  6. Debster Says:

Black Friday refers to “the biggest shopping day of the year” for retailers (the day after Thanksgiving). Some stores it is a make it or break it deal for them as far as profits go.

The stores open up really early (like 5:00 a.m.) and have specials, gimmicks, savings, 50% off prices, etc. Hundreds of people line up outside the closed doors of the store and then stampede thru the doors when they open.

I have noticed some stores were going to be open on Thanksgiving Day. So, I guess if you get tired of turkey and your relatives, you can bail out and go shopping! Bad for the store employees, since they always used to get the day off and sometimes even get paid, too!

Yes, I’ve worked in retail, as a secretary in a plastics factory, a secretary in a nursing home, and my current job with my husband as a painting contractor. I’m a multi-talented sort of person. A Jill (instead of Jack) of all trades and master of none!

We need to get you a job in a retail store, Plumey. You’ve not lived till you’ve worked with “the public” either in a store or restaurant or bar. After working with the public, you are equipped to handle anything that comes your way! Lots of responsibility, low wages, and no say on how anything should be done.

  7. Plume Says:

Debster – Yes, we have those kinda days too. Just not on Friday. I’m glad I don’t have to be anywhere near the rushes like that. I think I’ll pass on jobs like that too! You are very multi-talented! I’m learning all sorts of things about you. It’s all much clearer now!
