Christmas Invaders

I am feeling a little unwell. Might be getting sick. Which wouldn’t be that surprising, since my dad and brother have apparently been a little sick. And my mother was coughing a lot yesterday. Maybe it’s my turn now.

Other than that everything went well yesterday. A nice little christmas with some good food and presents. And yes, I helped out with the dishes. I better be scoring big karma points on that!

My mother had a night shift, so the cooking was done by my dad and Jens, his brother. My mother is the chef of the family, but the food came out just fine. Nice, traditional pork roast. And risalamande desert. Jens got the almond prize, somewhat to his own surprise. Apparently he NEVER gets the almond. But this was his year, and he got some nice honey hearts as a reward.

Then we did the dishes and then it was time for presents. I got myself a couple of gift certificates and some cash. Plus the Back To The Future trilogy collector’s super box. And an electronic water boiler from my dad, so he can have tea when he comes to visit me. Handy, for everyone!

I’m going to be trading the gift certificates and cash for Seinfeld season 9 and possibly Lost season 3. So I consider that a nice score. The presents aren’t really that important to me anymore. It’s not like when you were a kid and the thought of presents could keep you excited all year until christmas finally came. Today I can afford to buy myself anything I want (in the christmas present budget range anyway), so it’s more about the nice feeling of sitting around the table and seeing what everyone is getting and sharing and all that Disneylike junk. I made “homemade” presents for my parents. Not homemade like when you’re a kid and you draw a picture or knit a boot or something. But the internet version of homemade. Finding music or video with artists they like and burning it and making covers in photoshop and stuff. Making things that they can’t find in the shops. I like doing that. It would be easier to just go and buy something, and like I said I can afford that okay. But I think it’s nice to put a little personal and unique touch on it. And they seem to like it. So that’s good.

When the presents were all handed out, it was starting to get late and I headed back home. I had kinda gotten a little paranoid from all the tv and newspaper reports about how christmas eve is the most burglarized day of the year. And what with this not being the best neighbourhood. I didn’t like the idea of leaving the appartment empty all night.

The paranoia was unfounded of course, everything was just like I had left it. Including the lights on and the TV running. Maybe that scared off the burglars. Next year I’ll hopefully have a vicious killer-kitten to protect the premises.

I hope you guys have all had a good christmas time. With good food, people and presents. And whatever else you had coming. Even those of you silly enough to celebrate on the 25th! I said that I never could remember who celebrates when, but I do remember that it’s the 25th in England. Because the girl I pined for from afar during many years when I was a young schoolboy, her father was English. And one year he came in and talked to our class about Engish customs and stuff. I remember I always found “boxing day” to be funny, because I got these mental images of the whole family wearing boxing gloves and fighting over the presents. Hah. I wonder if that was why I started loving English, and languages in general, so much? Because her dad was English. It’s a nice romantic notion so let’s say so. Anyway, I hope it’s been a grand feast for you all. Your friendship is the greatest present of all.

I gotta stop being so damn jolly. It’s all that eggnog, I tells ya.

One little present for you guys. A picture of me:

me

Yes, it’s a rare thing. I don’t like showing myself. Even in santa hats in the distance. But I wanted to show the neat Space Invaders sweater that Skye got me once upon a time. Plus I think I promised Debster a view of the haircut, such as it is. Pardon the myspacey camera-in-hand pose and the greasy mirror. And just look at me, skin and bones. My mother asked if I had lost weight, and Jens chimed in with “yes he has”. How nice. I have lost arbound 15 kgs since I moved out. Without really trying. The goats are probably disappointed in me. “What a rotten goat, he gets slimmer instead of wider like a proper goat should”. Oh yes. At least I’m working on the goatee.

That’s all for now. I’m going to go rest in my comfy chair. Hope I don’t get worse. A cuppa warm soup will do me well. Too bad I only have the powder stuff and not the real deal. Hmm, maybe if I get really sick mama will make proper soup… I think I’ll go open all the windows and sit in the draft!

Cheers.

My goodness, Plumey. You are a rotten goat – getting slimmer instead of wider. Good for you! Your haircut looks very nice and a goatee to rival Mads’.

We had a good time at my parents’ house. I had run out of gift tags to put on presents, so I used old Christmas cards and cut out cute pictures, punched a hole in the corner, and strung a bit of ribbon thru the hole, and tied them on to the gift bag. My Mom wanted some gloves, so I had a “mitten” gift tag for her.

Hard to believe, but my sister (2 years younger than me) had done the exact same thing! We were oohing and aahing over the gift tags so much and how clever we’d both been. Our shot at being “Martha Stewart” during the holidays! We have also been known to get our parents the same birthday card or anniversary card by coincidence.

Great minds must think alike, I guess. Ha, ha

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas and I will keep my fingers crossed that you stay healthy and well.

Anyone doing “New Year’s Resolutions” this year?

Plume’s resolution: I resolve to get a “killer kitty” to protect my apartment!

I’m glad you had a nice Christmas. Sounds like you’re getting what the rest of Denmark is sufering from atm, tho. I hope not, but if you do, you should be well again by New Years. We have a cold here, but we’ll live. A nice Christmas was had by all anyways. And Raven is all better. And I’m having contractions, so maybe a new baby in time for New Years. Here’s hoping;)

Debster – I’m sure I will be severely reprimanded by Mads and the gang!
Glad you had a good time at chrismis, as I like to call it, at least this one time. Funny about the tags. And creative! I didn’t have tags eithers, but I just wrote straight on the wrapping paper.. somewhat less creative!
That’s a good resolution you made for me! I have another one: “To drink more cola”. Wait, hmm, is that right?!

Desiree – I feel like I’m sort of in limbo, right on the edge of a cold or a flu or whatever it is. We’ll see if I cross into sickness still. Glad Raven is better, and christmas was good. I hope you’ll get a sweet little after-christmas present soon!
