Plume And The Kids
Phew. I am knackered. Tired and aching body. But I survived the concert last night. It was excellent. Tina was outstanding. The band was outstanding. And the crowd wasn’t too bad. All in all a good time.
But I’ll get back to that in a later entry. Today shall be the story of my new, little friend.
What a wonderful little kid. I’m not sure if it’s a boy or girl yet. I tried lifting it up to check but it immediately started complaining and I didn’t want to disturb it too much. I’m not even sure I can tell if it’s a boy or a girl like that yet, but anyway I’ll find out soon enough. And say “it” until then.
But let’s start at the beginning. Saturday morning. When I arrived at the playground a couple of kids were running around. Human kids. Two girls. They were all preoccupied with the chickens and bunnies, so I went inside to put my stuff down and let Nina in. There was a note from Per. Instructions that Mads and Poul were in their own booths and not allowed to get in with the girls. Because of the “new addition to the family”. So then I knew there would be something waiting for me in the goat house. And that something was of course…
At first I wasn’t sure if it was Magnethe or Vanilje who had given birth. But when I saw there was only one kid and the white colour, I figured it was probably Vanilje. And that was immediately confirmed when Vanilje went over to check on the little one. All I really wanted was to go in and sit down with them, but the two human kids “got in the way”. They wanted to help me feed the animals. Which was fun and sweet, but it also meant I had to help them help me. So everything took twice as long as normal. I shan’t complain though. Human contact is good too. And two sweet girls. Sara and Julie. Sara lives in the neighbourhood. Julie was visiting Sara. And she wanted to show her the playground. It was obvious that Julie wasn’t that used to being around animals. She kept asking for help to hold the bunnies. And she wanted to go in to the goats but I had to hold her hand or she wouldn’t do it. A couple of times the goats would make a sudden movement and then she’d jump back and say “mommy” and squeeze my hand. Cute. She also said that she thought I was sweet. How adorable. It’s a nice feeling, to be liked and appreciated. It makes you feel less like a horrible ogre, you know?
Eventually I did get to go in and see the new baby. With the girls too.
There they are. They wanted to call the little kid Regnbue, which means Rainbow. I’m not sure it quite fits colour-wise. But their reasoning was “because she’s so cute”. And you can’t argue with that. Sweet name, but I don’t know if it’ll stick.
As nice as the girls were I have to say I was a little relieved when they finally decided to leave. Because then I could sit down in peace and quiet and just hold the baby goat.
And give Vanilje some well deserved scratches. She was very calm and seemed at ease with the situation. She’s done well. What a lovely baby she’s brought to the world.
Is there anything sweeter? As hard as it was to imagine Vanilje as a mother just a couple of days ago, now it seems perfectly natural.
She was tired too, though. Which produced a miraculous picture:
I didn’t say it was a good picture! But what is that? That is Vanilje yawning. I am pretty sure I have NEVER seen her yawn before. Ever. I have seen Mads and Magnethe yawn on very rare occasions. And I have complained about how hard it was to get a picture of it. The only other goat yawn I have ever caught on camera is this one. Luckily I was taking lots of pictures of the little new kid so when Vanilje suddenly yawned I was ready for it. I love goat yawns. They look so silly. And peaceful.
Speaking of Mads, all the time he was periodically baahing in the background, obviously wondering how I could possibly have found something that was more interesting than him! Don’t worry, I did give him a fair share of attention.
Anyway, that’s it. The story of Plume and the kids. Two human and one goat. I wanted to go check up on the little one again today, but I have just been wrecked. The concert took a lot out of me, physically and mentally. So today I have been recharging. Tomorrow I plan to go smother the little thing with love.
Here’s what you’re missing:
Perfectness. Now we’re just waiting for Magnethe!
A video, you say? Okay. Beauty and the beast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chBX_u4J7oE.
Stay tuned for more baby goat goodness.

The little one is taking to you like you’re part of the family. What a wonderful thing! She sitting in your lap very happy and contented.
The photos are fabulous! And just think in the next few months we’ll get to see her grow up along with Magnethe’s children.
This week should be a very exciting one! I’m happy the birth turned well and healthy.
