Sunshine Raggamuffin
I know I shouldn’t say it… I know it’s wrong. But I can’t help it.. I must.. I.. I… IT’S TOO HOT! It’s too damn hot. Iz 2 hot 4 Plume. Today marks the day when I stop complaining about the cold and start complaining about the heat instead. If only there was some way to magically freeze the temperature around.. oh say 18-20 degrees. That’s about my comfort zone.
I won’t complain too much though, since it is after all very beautiful and perfect weather for dozing off next to a lazy goat. And I will try not to melt.
Now, guess what I’ll be doing on Sunday? I’ll be attending a footie match. Soccer. That’s right. Whodathunk that? It came up rather randomly. My dad was visiting for a cuppa tea. And we were making plans for me to go eat dinner with the parents during the weekend. We had to pick between Saturday or Sunday. And since my beloved Brøndby are playing on Sunday we had to pick Saturday for the dinner, so I could watch the game on Sunday on the telly. As I looked at the TV schedule I saw that the game on Sunday is AGF-Brøndby. Now I may have mentioned once or twice that I have loved Brøndby for most of my life. And AGF just happens to be the local club around here. So Brøndby will be coming to town. My dad suggested that I should come to the game with him and my brother. I turned it down at first. But he prodded me a little more. And finally I thought to myself I thought “Oh why not? It can’t go worse than completely wrong. Let’s just do it”. And so it was that it came to pass that on Sunday I will get to see Brøndby playing live in the flesh for the first time ever. I have been a fan most of my life, but the social phobia has kept me from going. Also the fact that Brøndby is far away, on Sjælland. So I grew up with everyone around me supporting AGF and I had to defend my love for Brøndby. Which only made it stronger.
I have seen AGF play live a couple of times. As a kid, with classmates.I was never a fan of them, but I went for the socialness of it. Now I’m finally going to see Brøndby. Wow. I kinda figured I’d go through life without ever seeing them. Let’s hope I don’t get beat up. I’ll have to be discreet. Better not wear my Brøndby cap. It’s a high-risk game. Even though it’s the end of an abysmal season for both teams there will probably still be upwards of 15,000 people. And it wouldn’t be a surprise if there was some unrest. But hopefully we can stay clear of that. My dad and brother and I. They’re used to going to Århus Stadium, so I can let them worry about the transport and everything. That’ll make it a little easier for me. I’ll just have to focus on not melting in the sunshine and not getting beaten up for supporting the away team. I should be able to manage that.
Exciting! I’m somewhat nervous. But I’m also happy that I was able to say “ah to heck with it” to my worries and accept the invitation. Usually the things that scare me turn out to be really good after all, hopefully this will too.
So tomorrow it’s dinner with the parents and Sunday it’s soccer hooliganism. A big weekend!

Have fun at the game! Wear sunscreen, take a hat, and drink plenty of water. (Now I’m sounding like LuisLemmings!)
PS: I only had to pay your Dad $3.42 to get him to prod you into going to the game. You’re a cheap date, Plumey!

Debster – I don’t have any sunscreen. Why didn’t I listen to that MTV hit thing? Oh dear. But I’m sure I’ll survive. And hopefully it will be fun.
So that was why my dad was walking around with a t-shirt that said “I paid $3.42 and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”!
