Assistant’s Creed

It is rainy and cold. The Danish summer strikes again. It could be worse, though. No fires or hurricanes or earthquakes. And gangs of murderous penguins are on the decrease.

I had a hard time getting going this morning. Sleep would not ease its hold on me. I wonder if you can be addicted to sleep? I would bottle it and sell it on the street corners like the new best drug.

Brøndby won against the Faroes. Barely. But the season is underway and there will be plenty of TV footie for me. Foe fie fum.

Other than that, not much.

It’s good to hear the “penguin situation” is improving there in Denmark. Had me worried there for awhile. hee, hee

It’s hot and now raining here. At least it was overcast when we were working outside today. Yesterday in the sun was bad.

Snickers is being very naughtly lately. She’s been nippy and kicking like a crazy donkey girl. I took a spray bottle outside with me (filled with water).

When she started coming after me with her ears lowered and her teeth a-showing, I gave her a little squirt of water in the face.

That got her attention and redirected her away from me. I went over later and combed her a bit and she was fine. No nipping or kicking.

What gets into these animals sometimes?

You know, sometimes animals have his sixth sense when danger comes.

I remember that Earthquake up San Francisco which was felt down here in San Diego.

I was up in my study doing some work when I head the dogs in the neighborhood barking and howling at once. It was weird.

So I left my study and was walking down the stairs to get something to drink when I felt this shaking. The hand rails were vibrating and the ceiling lamps started to sway and the windows rattled.

Since I grew up here, I knew it was an earthquake. What I didn’t know how serious it was. So I turned on the tv and saw all that awful destrucion in San Francisco.

The same thing happened in Northridge which is north of Los Angeles. I was up getting ready for work. And I had a tv in my bedroom which I always turned on as I got ready for work.

When I started to brush my teeth, I felt this shaking, very mild of course. But the tv was interrupted with breaking news. And again, there were dogs in the neighborhood howling and barking up a storm.

Have you guys ever had that experience with your animals, warning you of danger or concern?

Maybe Snickers was trying to tell you something?

I firmly believe that animals have that innate ability humans don’t have.

I know that one of these days we’re going to have “the big one” in California.

If the dogs start barking again, I’ll have a few seconds to run outside. Thank goodness for the dogs!

Yes, Buddy our parrot let out three loud noises in May just before we felt the earthquake here. I’d never heard those particular squawks before.

That was the New Madrid quake we felt early, early in the morning. Was a very small quake and most of us had no damage in the area.

Debster – It is important not to be complacent about the penguin situation, though. The danger of penguins should never be underestimated.
Sounds like Snickers is quite a handful. I think the animals are aware of how cute they are, so they think they can get away with everything. They got us all figured out.

LuisLemmings – What about those dogs that can sniff out cancer. It’s important to listen to the animals. I have never been warned of any danger though. Unless you count dogs. Mads could spot a dog a mile away. Suddenly he’d tense up and stare into the distance. And I’d look and look and after a while a dog would appear. And Mads would stare and stare at it until it was gone. He definitely had a sixth sense for spotting dogs.
