Et Kort Sekund, En Evighed

And so the acupuncture endeth. For now at least.
Between the two treatments yesterday I had my sight tested. And as I expected there had been no change from the first day. The little improvements I have felt have gone away again. I am left with 2-3% on the left eye and 5% on the right. 5 that feels lik ½.
So that was obviously not good news. Junior, who did the testing, said he was sorry that there was nothing to cheer about. But he told me that for 60% of their patients the treatment works right away, for 20% it never works. And for the last 20% it takes a little time, it can take up to four weeks for the stuff they have done to start working. So there is still a little chance that I could get some improvement. He invited me to come back in two weeks and have my sight tested again and then get a couple of free treatments. So that was nice of him. We’ll be doing that. And cross our fingers. But at ths point I’d be lying if I said I believe it will work. Nothing to do but wait and see.
After the testing I went into town with dad and uncle Jens. We ate lunch at the local hotel/inn. We had something called “stjerneskud”. Shooting stars. It’s a fish dish. Several different kinds of fish and shrimps. Apparently arranged in the shape of a shooting star, although I’ll take their word for that. Hard to see when you are half-blind and all. It tasted good, though.
Back home after the last treatment I presented Jens with a little gift as a token of our appreciation. Some exotic beers and chocolate coffee and stuff like that. I had help buying it of course. And Jens seemed very happy with it. I know we are greatful for his help. He has already volunteered to come drive us when I’m going back in two weeks for the test and free treatment. He is a trooper and I don’t know how I would have done this without him. I am not good with travel.
My dad took some pictures of the acupuncture during the first week, and I finally got around to putting them up. So here goes.
That is me on the bed and John Boel Snr getting ready to stick needles in my head. My dad was sitting on a chair when he took that picture. So John said “no no, you have to get up or you won’t get a proper view”. And so…
A standing view. “I used to be a photographer, you know” John said.
And there’s one of my feet. Under the heat lamp. I never did get around to asking whether the heat lamp was supposed to have some kind of healing effect or if it was just to.. keep your feet warm.
There is the clinic. Boel Akupunktur. If there are any people out thre googling it, like I did before the treatments, then I will say that they can definitely do something there. Even though I ended up (most likely) with no improvement, I did clearly feel on several occasions that they were able to produce effects on my eyesight. And pretty much all the other patients we met had positive stories to tell. I can’t say that you’ll get results if you go there, but I think it’s worth the try if you are out of other options and you hve the money and opportunity. My impression of the family is that they are all nice, caring and funny people who are pleasant to be around. I didn’t have any negative experiences with them.
If you’d like to read up on them a little then they have a website here: akupunktur2000.dk. The link goes to the English part of their site. I will admit it is not the most amazing website either. There are occasional spelling mistakes and broken links. For example it seems that John Boel Senior is “the author of tree books”. I wonder if he wrote a lot about oaks and palms then? But seriously, their site didn’t give me a lot of confidence in it all beforehand. I’m glad I didn’t let it stop me from going though. And you can read a little about the “akupunktur 2000? deal. Acupuncture 2000. That is the system that Boel Snr invented. It’s different from the classic chinese acupuncture. Don’t ask me to explain or whether any of the stuff they write about it is true or not. I haven’t got a clue. They boast a lot about it and some of the proof and studies they offer up don’t seem that convincing to me. But again, I have seen that they can do things for some people. I think they could probably do with a website that communicated it a little more professionally.
But I wish them all the luck in the world. It was a warm and welcoming place and they have done a lot of good for a lot of people.
It’s been nice spending time with my dad and Jens too. Feeling how they care about me means a lot to me.
So there.

Hardwood floors and pine paneling on the acupuncture clinic walls. Sorry! Got caught up in my painting/wood staining mode there for a minute.
Yes, there’s Plume lying on the table with needles stuck in him. Your Dad wasn’t squeamish about getting too close to you when he was taking the picture, was he?
I think maybe the clinic needs some help with their translations – especially on the “tree books”. They aren’t as good as you are with English evidently.
We rescued a hummingbird today! We returned a door we’d painted and then my husband was priming a window frame and I happened to look up above the window inside this garage. And there it was. A female hummingbird on the window ledge.
We took it outside and put it on a tree limb. I wonder if it flew into the garage when the walk-in door was open and then banged itself against the window glass! We hope it was alright. My husband said it didn’t feel like anything at all in his hand.
It was so tiny with such a long, long bill. Poor little thing. I rescued a baby robin that was sitting in the hot sun a few days ago. I put it in the shade and gave it a drink of water. It wanted more water and let out a squawk which brought both parent robins dive bombing my head.
Well, at least I knew the parents would take over from there! It had the biggest mouth that opened when it saw I had some water for it.
We also found a nest of 7 baby bunnies last week outside the goatzies pen. One year, the rabbits nested inside the goatzie pen. I don’t think the goats ever did notice the rabbits. Of course the rabbits weren’t as big as your big gray Flemish rabbit at the playground.

Debster – My dad wasn’t squeamish at all, no. He practically offered to inser the needles himsel. We had to restrain him. no, I’m making that up. Twoulda been fun though.
You must be some kind of superhero for the birds. Superbirdwoman. Of course they wouldn’t be impressed by a superhero who could fly. “Pfft, we can ALL fly, what else can you?”.Silly birds.

Hee, hee. That was funny about your Dad. I can just see him chasing you around the table.
“This won’t hurt a bit, my dear danish son.” “Come back here, come back!”
