Thirty-Three

My birthday is nearing its end. Another year, deeper in debt. Or well not really. But it’s been a nice day. I went downtown with the family and had dinner at Rådhus Caféen. I had my traditional pork serving, and it was very good. The weather was comfortably mild. It was a good time. Earlier in the day I had a visit from the building super. Not a birthday visit. But my fridge and freezer have been making noises. I can’t remember if I wrote about that in the blog. But here’s a video to illustrate it: youtube.com/watch?v=vUA7A2cU5uY. It was doing that on and off all day and night. So today the super came by. He looked at it for 5 seconds and said “yup, I see”. Then he told me to empty it all out and he came back 15 minutes later with a helper and a new fridge and freezer. So that was quick service. And now the crickets have been silenced.

So now I’m 33. I know, I can hardly believe it either. I look 15 and act 14. But I’m a third of the way to a hundred. Minus 1. Too much math.

Thanks all for the well wishes and may all your christmasses be white.

Hay, hay! Can your building super come fix our truck? It sounds like the same noise in your fridge!

We’ve had the truck in the shop for repairs – they thought it was 3 different things that they fixed and it still makes the cricket noises. We’re on our third “new” alternator.

Would be so much easier (I think) to have your building super drop by and fix our truck. What do you think? Is he up for a trip to Iowa? Would he bring us a new replacement truck? hee, hee

Glad to hear your birthday went well and you had your traditional pork dish. Is it roasted pork loin? We have that occasionally here at home and it’s very good.

It finally became sunny this afternoon. When I left to get my hair cut this afternoon, the goatzies were all out sunbathing.

Frankie was so cute all curled up with his little pink nose sticking out while taking a nap in the sun. The other two were chewing their cud and donkey was looking for bits of overlooked hay for a snack.

This morning before we left for work, I went over to see Billy. He put his hooves up on the fence and I almost got a goatzie kiss! Guess he was interested in what I had for breakfast. Silly goat.

Hope you had a good one :)

Debster – He says he can only come if the truck is a building. You don’t live in your truck do you? So probably no.
You don’t have any crickets in the trunk do you?
My pork dish is Stegt Flæsk which is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stegt_fl%C3%A6sk
pork strips I guess. Very nice,
    Here’s a song about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyk3LZm9oNk
You probably won’t get much out of that though!
And let’s hope for some warmer weather yes.

Clare – Thanks Clare it was quite nice!

I watched a cooking video on how to make your pork dish. It looks like what we would almost call “bacon”. Not exactly the kind of bacon we’d get in the stores, but bacon that you get when you send a cow to the locker and they cut it up to your specifications.

The bacon would be thicker then. Looks like a butter, onion, and parsley are added to a cream sauce made with a bit of flour, cream, and milk.

It looks pretty tasty, even if it’s fried and has the creamy sauce. My husband would like it for sure – he loves bacon of any kind.

Today was nice, so we let the animals out for walkies and did some goat hoof trimming. Also trimmed the matted hair around one of the kitty kats ears. She has long hair and it seems to get tangled up and not easy to comb out. Callie cat was very good for the trimming and even rolled over on her back and let me comb her tummy.

The goats weren’t that accommodating. You’d think they’d be used to hoof trimming by now. Silly goats. Didn’t even attempt to trim Snicker’s hooves, but I did get to comb her all over and even trimmed her tail!

I think someone has taken our “evil” donkey and switched her with a nice donkey. I’m sure when they get to know Snickers, they will bring her back and take the “nice” donkey with them. hee, hee

I think we are in for five days of rain now. And things were just starting to dry up in the yard. We didn’t squish so much when we walked across the grass. Oh, well.

Debster – Yes, that wiki page said bacon too. It’s not really what I think of as bacon. But maybe that’s just because bacon slices here are usually very thin.
but the direct translation of the dish name is “fried pork with parsley sauce”. Very classic danish dish.
I think I should invite your new and improved good donkey around to see my apartment. I’m sure now she’s well enough behaved to go on road trips!
Hope you don’t rain away. It was nice and sunny here today. Still a bit on the cold side, but at least winter is mostly done.
