Mein Goatcraft
Not a lot going on at the moment. Mostly just dealing with more computer issues. And riding my exercise bike. Visiting goats. American Gods on audiobook. Classic remastered Star Trek and the old, old black/white Doctor Whos. Seventeen different forms of medication. The weather not warm enough. Do they have welfare in Florida?! Almonds and pears for breakfast. Pancakes for dinner, but only today. I need to make appointments at the dentist and the doctor. I think the toilet is dripping, so I probably need to get the super to come round too. We have had rain and thunder. Lying in bed and listening to it makes me think of lying in my old bed, when I still lived at home. Falling asleep to the sound of rain and the leaves on the tree outside rustling in the wind. The tree has been cut down now, I think. Many things are very different. The rain still sounds the same, though.
And the goats are still great, that never changes. Here’s a little video: youtube.com/watch?v=ezsTVSlare0. Magnethe, Mio and Bob. Bobby is still small enough to get through the fence. Last time I went, I found him on his own outside the chicken coop, munching on grain on the ground. While the grownups were back in the fold. Much too big to get through any holes in the fence.
He’s getting bigger, though. He’s gotten a collar around his neck now. He didn’t seem to mind, but I’m sure he won’t appreciate it when he has to be tied down some day in the future. I don’t think he likes being in the fold that much, I think he gets a little bored there. He’s always looking off into the distance. Through the fence. Looks like he ponders all the great adventures he could get into on the other side. For now they just let him walk around where he pleases, when he escapes. I don’t think he wanders up into the residential block when he’s on his own. Usually I find him at the bushes or the chicken coop or pig sty, where the food canisters are. Growing boys need lots of food.
Oh, it’s a goat’s life for me.

Rain, rain. What’s that? We haven’t had any measurable rain for the last 9 weeks.
We had just a few drops on Sunday the 28th (My birthday, by the way). That would have been a good present – an inch or two of rain.
My parents took all of us (me, my husband, my sister and her husband) out for brunch to celebrate. My sister’s birthday is the 27th and her husband’s birthday was August 2nd. August is quite the party month in our family!
Now the east coast wouldn’t want any rain after Hurricane Irene. They really got hit hard, especially Vermont and New Jersey.
We had Snickers’ hooves trimmed on Saturday. Not a good day for the donkey. She really doesn’t like to have that done. We’d trimmed goat hooves a few weeks ago, and I trimmed the parrot’s nails. We all have pretty feet now!

Hay, hay! We got 3/4 inch of rain on Tuesday. It was great. Now we just need a few more inches of rain. It reached 100 F today and is to be warm again on Friday with high heat indexes.
When will it be fall and have cooler weather? We’ve sure been able to work outside more this year, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. But it sure has been hot!
Goatzies don’t like really hot, hot weather any more than we do. Course they don’t like rainy weather either.

I love American Gods, hope you enjoy it!

Debster – Oop! Happy belated birthday, Deb. I sent you cake, but it was a carrot cake and I sent it with goats so… probably not going to happen.
Happy birthday to your sister and her husband too. I hope you all had a lovely time.
Do the parrots like to have their nails trimmed? Well at least they probably can’t kick much when you do it!
It’s funny that you want cooler weather and I want warmer. Maybe we should exchange living places. And meet up in the middle for brunch before moving on!
Katrine – enjoying it very much so far!

My husband loves carrot cake – probably a good thing you didn’t send one. He would eat it all up!
Yes, it has been hot again here the last few days. At least we had rain on Tuesday and then it is raining today (Sat). It was really hot this afternoon before a storm blew through and cooled down the temps about 20 degrees.
