March On
There’s nothing really going on right now. But I guess I might catch up on playground videos.
youtube.com/watch?v=2ESRzNWqK4A. Horse and pony grooming. Each other. Good looking out.
youtube.com/watch?v=A5kzAIzeIWc. The goats. A video from my birthday. Nothing too interesting, but just my good birthday times.
youtube.com/watch?v=StoUWJIeJiI. The buck and Mio. The buck seemed to take an interest in Mio. And Mio had no interest in that whatsoever. Much amusing chasing ensued.
Other than that, the weather has been splendid. Sunny and warm, mostly. Unfortunately it looks like we’ll be back to freezing nights again soon. But at least there’s a little spring in the air. And a lot of spring in the goats. So we March forwards.

Who better than another horse/pony would know all the itchy, scratchy places to groom? Mutual grooming – relieves tension and itchy places!
Nothing like getting a horse kiss on the back of your neck, Plume? hee, hee
The buck seems to be very interested in the girls now. Mio almost seems happy that she has someone to butt horns with. Magnethe has so many wooly bits in her fur. There are going to be some little birds with nice goaty down nests in the near future.
It has been a little cooler here lately, but still nice. The redbud trees are blooming and the tulips and daffodils are up along with the wild plum trees and crabapple trees are all abloom.
We saw a very beautiful male peacock at the place where the goats were that I email pictures to you. Mr. Peacock had a very long tail and he had escaped from his pen. The owner said he wasn’t very friendly, but Mr. Peacock came over to us and walked right on by.
He followed my husband over to the horses and longhorned cattle, but was respectful and didn’t bother us at all. Mr. P did let out a few of his calls – sounds like he’s saying “Help, help” in peacock language.
The owner finally got him back in his pen before he decided to roost up in the barn rafters. Now that would be a surprise to have a peacock drop down from above!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m sending you an email also – to thank you! The Moomins have arrived!

Debster – You’re more than welcome! I hope you’ll enjoy them. I don’t know if they’ll hold the same kind of magic for you as they do for me, since my perception is coloured by the nostalgia of memories gone by. But hopefully they will still be worth a read. I’m in the mood for reading them myself again now too actually. Maybe I’ll see if there are any audiobooks of them to be found somewhere.
And I’ll be sure to keep my eyes out for any peacock escapees, you never know he was planning to go see the world. On second thought he’ll probably find his pen nicer after all. But a little taste of freedom is always nice!

I read the Moominland Midwinter last night and really enjoyed it. What interesting characters there are in the book. I liked at the end when Moominmama was happy that Moomintroll had entertained the “guests” while she was asleep and fed them the jam! She wasn’t mad at all.
And the squirrel with the magnificent tail that died early in the book, but who wasn’t really dead after all. And I did go to page 125 to read ahead that he was okay! hee, hee
And they have soup!
Now would Finland have 6 months of mostly darkness and then 6 months of sun like Alaska has? The book is an interesting way to tell children about their environment with the snow, no sun, and northern lights.

Debster – Glad you enjoyed it! Jansson really comes up with some interesting little characters. When I was younger I really liked her comics and illustrated books too. It all helped build that mysterious, slightly frightening atmosphere of her works.
I don’t really know about Finland’s sun schedule, but I’m sure the environment up there has given lots of inspiration for the moominworld.
