Raining Goats
I had a rainy Monday with the goats. It was surprisingly wonderful. I love the warm sunshine of summer, but summer rain has its upsides too.
It started out as a lovely, sunny day actually. But the weather forecast said we’d be getting rain after noon. I sat on my wooden throne on top of the hill and watched the dark clouds approaching. I knew that I ought to get up and go home before the rain came, but I was just having such a nice time with the goats that I decided to stay. And soon enough I was completely drenched. But the odd thing was that the goats didn’t seem to care at all. Most peculiar. All the goats I have known in the past have been terrified by even the slightest drizzle. But this bunch seems to have developed some kind of… water resistance. Perhaps they are a genetic mutation, a new species of super goats? I don’t know. But I know that in the end I was the one who fled out of the rain. I went and sat under one of the platforms. The goats joined me once in a while, but most of the time they just stayed out in the rain and ate grass. It was in fact a wonderful, peaceful time. Sitting under the platform listening to the rain fall on the boards above. Watching the goats. I do like rain, especially when I can just watch and listen to it. I was already wet of course and there were little gaps in the wooden boards of the platform so water still dripped down on me. And of course the goats repeatedly decided to walk up next to me and shake themselves dry. Almost like they did it on purpose, the sneaky little devils. But it was a good time and here are some pictures why don’t you?
Bob joining me under the platform.
Closeup of Kamel with the folded ears.
Kamel on the hill. She stayed up there the whole time it rained. Her leash was long enough that she could have gone down to hide under one of the platforms, I don’t know if that just didn’t occur to her or if she liked the rain.
And Mio. A little water droplet hanging off the horn.
I guess wet grass still tastes good.
Preben’s head from behind. I like the ear. And the water on the horns. He’s got an impressive pair of horns on him. I wonder how old he is? Surely at least 3 years if not more.
And as luck would have it there is also a video:
There are lots of nice little bits in it. I really love the rain and the goats like this. You can hear the thunder at the beginning. See the goats shake their bodies to dry off. It always amuses me, they shiver their bodies like a dog and then they swirl their heads around with their ears flapping around. Lovely flapping goat ears. There’s also a bit where I’m filming Preben and then Mio walks into the shots and looks directly into the camera as if she’s annoyed that she’s not getting the attention. And a nice zoom-in on Kamel on the hill. I like the zoomed views, on pictures you get the goat in focus and the background somewhat blurred. And on video you get a closer look at the goats when you’re not right next to them. So you can see what they’re doing when they’re not reacting to your presence. I’m sure I’m the only one in the world who is remotely interested haha.
Oh and before the rain started, Per came over to say hi. I haven’t seen him in a while, maybe he’s been on vacation. We talked a little, about Magnethe and such. And about Mio. There’s a good chance she’ll be having babies soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened within the next couple of weeks. So that’ll be exciting. I just hope it will all go okay. Can’t handle more tragedy right now. I just want a couple of sweet little bouncy goat kids to keep me happy. And hopefully the sun will be back too.

All I can say is, your goats have not read the same books that I have that say goats do not like to get wet! Our boys hate rain and have only been wet once on purpose when we gave them their one and only bath when they were little goatzies.
It must have felt good to your goats. Has it been really hot there? It’s been hot and very dry here. Send some of that lovely rain and thunder our way, okay?
Our goats do that shake and fluff in the winter-time, but I’ve never seen them wet enough to do what your goats are doing when they shake.
Yes, I hope all goes well with Mio. She does look very pregnant in the video. Baby goatzies will be fun to watch.

Debster – Yes it¨s quite puzzling isn’t it? We’ve had some nice summer finally, but it wasn’t THAT hot on the day. I don’t know. Goats never cease to surprise.
