March On

It is officially springtime in Denmark. And the weather is trying to follow suit. At least we are above zero now.

It was still winter on Monday, though. And it had snowed overnight. So I got one last (I presume) snow day with the goats. And as if that wasn’t enough someone had dropped off a new christmas tree in the pen. So goats were snacking on that and everything was beautiful and cold in the snow.

Thursday was the last day of winter, according to the calendar. And I left the apartment and walked out into beautiful sunshine. Just lovely. The sun is coming into my apartment more and more too. The forecast says we should reach 10C next week. Although it looks like it will drop down a little again after that. But as long as it’s not freezing then that’s a good start. Hopefully the really warm springtime will come along eventually. I’m sure the goats would appreciate that too. Warm for the new babies. I think Mio is good and ready to get them out soon. I have no idea how long it will be, but she’s quite huge now and seems a little tired of it. Can’t wait to see how Mia will react to the new ones. If she’ll see them as siblings to play with. Or annoying rivals that steal all the attention. It will be cute to find out.

Okay, on with the pictures.

Bob, the black panther. As I don’t call him.

Bob with a little hay.

Mia checking out the new christmas tree.

Taking a bite.

Head popping up.

And mama Mio likes the tree as well.

Kamel looking sideways.

Cutiepie Mia.

Sitting on the bench again. I like when she sits down next to me!

And finally mama Mio. Big mama Mio.

Oh, and also…

These are my fridge magnets. From friends around the world. You know, my birthday is coming up on the 15th. So if anyone wants to send me more magnets… get in touch.

And videos.

First the goatlog from Monday. The snow day with the new christmas tree. Quite jolly. And a big ole banana peel for Mia. She actually stole one right out of my pocket earlier on. Must have picked up that little trick from her mama. But I thought I’d feed her one on camera too. Nomnomnom. You can also see me stepping up on the concrete block. I thought I’d try it out and see why the goats always do that. Still not sure though…

And the goatlog from Thursday. With more sunshine than snow. Most of the christmas tree was picked clean, but I had saved a branch away. So the goats got a little fresh greenery there. Footrubs for everyone. And picking wool from Bob’s fur. And at the end Kamel strategically places herself in front of the camera. No one is better at ruining a carefully planned shot than a goat!

The end!

Well I’m glad it’s spring-time somewhere. We just had 3 more inches of snow overnight. The highways yesterday were fine to drive on, but our gravel roads were muddy, slushy, wet, and snowy. I had to drive very
    s l o w l y on my way home.

My husband had taken the snow blower out in the backyard to make a path for the goats and donkey. Looks like he’ll need to clean that out again.

My husband said the goats were looking at the path and asking themselves: “I wonder how he gets such straight edges to this path?” They walked up and down the path marveling at it several times. Good thing they are so easily amused!

I have had hundreds of birds come to the bird feeder because of all the snow. Cardinals, woodpeckers, juncos, goldfinches, doves, several kinds of sparrows, and chickadees have all come to our all-you-can-eat birdy buffet.

Debster – Well we’re back to snow here too! I thought I’d seen the last of it. But then I was watching a soccer game on telly (my dad and brother are at the stadium watching it there) and the snow was falling. So spring is on hold for now. Don’t think we need a snow blower, though. Hopefully the sun will come back soon and blow the snow away.
