The New Year

It’s a new year. 2014, according to the lovely family calendar that DesirĂ©e sent me.

New year, same old life. Pretty much. I had planned to take a couple of days to do absolutely nothing after new year’s eve. But of course I changed my mind the morning of January 1st. Just had to go see the goats to make sure they were okay. And they were. Of course. It’s the same every year, I can’t help worrying about them especially on new year’s night. But they’re always okay. Thank goatness. And I’m sure they didn’t mind me coming by with a little old fruit for them. Came back on Friday and they were still fine. A couple of christmas trees in the pen for them. They always enjoy that a lot. And I always enjoy watching them devour the trees.

Mio is still big. I don’t get the feeling she’s right about to pop, though. A visiting father, with his little boy, asked how long before there would be babies? I said it would probably be 2-3 weeks. According to my calculations it can’t be later than January’s end. But of course I’m no math wiz… Still, it could happen any time I guess. It will be a good start to the new year with goat babies. Though Mia will probably get jealous if I spend too much time with them. She has nothing to worry about, though. I’d never forget her!

But other than that it’s pretty much business as usual. Trying to get back on track with healthy living after an unhealthy holiday season. Exercising. Looking foward to spring. May it come swiftly.

On with pictures.

Mia looking very pretty.

Mia up close.

Funny look!

Me’n’Mia.

The goats on the morning of January 1st. All good and happy to see me!

Lovely Kamel. She’s got her own little fanclub on Facebook now. Well deserved!

Kamel and Mia, waiting to be let out.

Mia and Kamel enjoy their respective trees.

And a video. Before and after new year’s eve. And a little bit in the dark on the morning of the new year.

And that’s all for this week, folks. Here’s to a good year for us all.

I’m tired of being in the “polar vortex”. We had snow, and wind, and extremely cold weather over the weekend and on Monday.

We got our car started today (Tues) and ended up getting a new battery for it. The truck had to be towed to the garage and have some new spark plugs put in. Expensive day to get our vehicles running again.

We had temps of -12 F (-24 C) with wind chills of -30 F (-34 C). It was a bit above 0 F today with not much wind and it felt really, really great compared to what it had been.

Our wild birds like the heated bird bath and we’ve had lots of visitors at the feeder. I made some homemade suet cakes out of oats, cornmeal, suet, raisins, peanut butter, cracked corn, and sunflower seeds. The downy woodpeckers really like the suet cakes and so do the chickadees.

The goats and donkey seemed content to stay in the shed with their heated water bucket, hay, and straw beds. We fed the cats inside the shed, but had to make sure Snickers didn’t eat the cat food. Silly donkey. Does she think she’s a really big cat?

Your photos show you have green grass at the playground! Good thing our goatzies don’t know that. They’d be headed your way ASAP.

We might be getting snow next week. Probably no polar vortex here, though! I don’t think I could handle the kind of cold you’ve had. I’d need to have my battery changed or a warmmed bath too!
We may still have some green, but it’s not very fresh and juicy! I doubt the goats would find it too interesting! Plenty of green christmas trees, though!
