Comings & Goings

Winter is certainly here. It’s been cold. Especially the windy days. Windchill down to -15C/5F. Now that ain’t nice. Snow too. Not a ton, though. But while a lot of it melted away fairly quickly on the streets and pavements it did last longer in the goat pen. I do enjoy the sound of goat hooves in the snow. Especially when they run around and chase each other. Kamel and Mia have been butting heads quite a bit. And when Mio sees it she trundles along and splits them up. Sometimes it seems like she’s trying to stop them. And sometimes it seems like she just wants to join the fight. And then they gang up on poor Kamel. Not fair!

No babies yet. Bodil called me today while I was exercising and left a message on my cell. She was at the playground and there were no goat kids to be seen. One week left of January. If my calculations are to hold true then she better get going, big Mio.

It would be nice if they’d come soon. Next week is Sigrid’s last, as far as I know. I was really sad to hear that. She’ll be going on leave in February and then starting her vegan cafĂ©/restaurant thing in August. So that really sucks for us. But I’m happy for her. I hope it’ll be a great succes. She has meant a lot to me. I will definitely miss her. I hope the care of the animals won’t suffer. “All I can do is write down what I do and hope they’ll follow it”. She’s always care a lot about the well being of the animals. I think Per has stopped too. I haven’t seen him in a long, long time and as far as I can understand he probably won’t be coming back. That’s sad too. He was there when I started going to the playground. Now there’s only me and Alice left from those days I guess. Kurt still comes around to visit. But other than that it’s mostly new folks and new animals. I do worry if something like what happened last year when Mia and Palle overate happened again, will there be people there who knows what to do and how to take care of it? I remember spending time with Per and Sigrid talking about it and trying various things. But we’ll do our best of course. I’m sure it’ll all be okay. I just miss the old days, sometimes.
Ch-ch-changes. I have been working on my goat tribute site too, and it always beings nostalgia. Time waits for no nuns.

But on with pictures.

What is love? Nobody nose. Nose to nose with Kamel.

Still holding on to Mia.

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter.

Mia and Palle taking sides at the hayholder.

I think I’m in there somewhere, behind Mia and Palle.

Wintermia.

I love the crease on Kamel’s back.

The expecting Mio.

And a goatlog. With snow on the ground. Christmas trees. Visiting boys and dogs. A little outbreak from the goats. And more feuding and fussing.

And that’s all for this week, folks. See you in the next one. Hopefully with goat babies.

You finally have some snow. Some of ours melted today, but we’re back to very strong winds and blowing snow again this evening. Makes me concerned about the power lines with such strong winds.

There were blizzard warnings to our north about 30 miles, so hope the worst of it stays north. It sounds just awful outside this evening.

We were home in time to give everyone hay, warm water, and scratches. The cats ate their supper quickly, too. The cats hadn’t been eating their food a few days ago, so I melted some bacon grease and poured it over their dry food. Feeding frenzy!

We had my husband’s homemade chicken noodle soup tonight for supper. We had cooked a chicken in the crock pot a day or so ago and had leftover chicken and thought soup sounded good. I have some chicken parts and bones to give to the cats tomorrow providing they haven’t blown away in the wind.

The only problem with giving those cats bacon grease and chicken goodies is when they just have their dry food, they look so unhappy and don’t want to eat it unless it has been “enhanced”. Silly kitties.

More. Snow. Tonight. Blah! It has been snowing all day today, will continue tonight into Saturday afternoon. We might get 5 to 8 inches total.

Most of our old snow had melted, except for some treacherous patches of ice in the yard. Of course, that is where we walk from the truck to the house and it was slick. Couldn’t see it under the new snow.

I shoveled some paths out to the animals, hay shed, bird sauna, and bird feeder. I filled the feeders last night and I made some more suet cakes for the birds. They sure do like that chuncky peanut butter I use. There are sunflower seeds, cracked corn, raisins, lard, p. butter, oats, and cornmeal in the suet cakes.

More cold weather on the way and we have 6 days out of the 10 day forecast where we might have snow. Someone is going to have to dig poor Mr. Groundhog out from his burrow so we can tell if he sees his shadow on Feb. 2nd.

We’ve had a good deal of snow! Had some lovely days in falling snow with goats. But it’s going to get a little warmer now, so I don’t know how long the snow will stay no. We’ll see!
Bacon grease and chickens and noodles mmm. Oh well, I had soup today! That’s quite good as well! And I eat peanut butter like your birds. Maybe I should fly south for the rest of the winter.
Hope you guys won’t snow in completely!
