Flight of the Bumblegoats

It’s been a week of many weathers. Cold and dark. Grey and rainy. Windy and snowy. All jumbled up. Several scenes of goats looking out the hatch and then looking at me like “You’re not expecting us to go out in that, are you?”. But they did get out. And we had some good times. No babies yet. Mio is big and seems a little tired of it. On Tuesday she was quite annoyed and kept picking fights with everyone. Normally she can be quite bossy but she was really on overdrive that day. She chased Kamel around for a while. You can see some of it in the goatlog below. Although of course I ran out of battery in the middle of it and with frozen fingers it took ages to get it replaced. But still fun to look at. I do enjoy a good goat circus.

Last night I dreamt about some of my old goat friends. It started out as some kind of news clipping. From a paper maybe. Or a newsletter from the playground. It was about Sigrid and how she had been worried whether she’d be able to train Palle the way she had trained Bob? Or something like that. You know the effect in movies when you have a picture and it zooms in on it and then it transforms from a still picture into a live scene? That’s what happened in the dream. It zoomed in on the photo in the article and then I was there. It was the slope at the playground. Grass and sunshine. Magnethe was there. Sitting down. She got up when she saw me. Mads was there too. And Bob. It was beautiful. Like a little dreamvisit to the afterlife where all my best goat friends were waiting for me. I wish I could have stayed longoer but it only lasted a minute. Then I woke up, I guess. It’s all a blur to me now. But I hope I’ll end up back there some day.

Now for photos. I have changed the way I handle photos. It should make it easier for me to post them. Cut down on some of the processing time. It also means I’m going to be posting more of them. In the past I’d pick out the 8-10 best of the week to post. But now that it’s easier I’m just going to post them all. That could be 10-20. Maybe. More photos in any case. I realize that might get annoying for some. But then if you don’t like goat photos then you’ve probably stopped coming to my blog long ago. And you can always scroll by them. No harm no foul. I just like having them all in my photo album.

The two first photos are in different sizes. If you have any thoughts on which size is best, please leave a comment. The first one is 400 pixels wide. The second one (and the rest in this post) is 450 pixels. Any input appreciated. Even if it’s just “doesn’t matter, do what you want”.

Mio is pregnant. Kamel is just big boned.

A nice lady bringing old apples for the goats.

I hung up some more pine for the goats to get at.

Mia and Palle at the big tree.

Mia dancing with the tree.

Mio quickly taking cover when it started to snow.

Mio having a closer look at the camera.

Palle.

I have waited all his life for this. Snowflakes on Palle’s black fur. I love it. Like my old Bob. You can see him shake it off in the goatlog too. Just like Bob. Sigh.

Danish gothic.

Kamel looking up.

Kamel used to sniff at my face a lot. She kinda stopped for a while, but I’ve gotten her to start doing it again. Because it amuses me.

Mia upclose to the camera.

That’s the spot!

Expecting Mio.

Sille the silly horse.

Goat yawn! I love the goat yawns, as you know. I had my camera pointed at Kamel and was about to take a picture. And then she started yawning. Perfect timing. She kinda looks a little like a rock star belting out a rocking tune. Are you ready to ROOOOOCK?!

Mia checking to see if I’m inside the scarf somewhere. It was my first time this winter bringing out the big scarf that Traci made me years ago. I have cut up one of my older, smaller scarfs in smaller portions so I could wear them around my neck under my coat. But this weather required my whole face to be wrapped up to protect me from the wind!

And a goatlog. With snow and rain and falling christmas trees and the usual fun. Mio chasing Kamel around. Flight of the bumblegoats. I don’t think they know that they not supposed to be able to jump like that when she’s so heavy!

And that’s all for this week, folks. See you in the next one!

PS. Happy birthday to my brother,. tomorrow.

Great goat log today, Lasse, and terrific pictures of everyone. You do an awesome job and I always look forward to it. And I think the pics were the perfect size.
Wishing your brother a very Happy Birthday and a great 2014!

Thank you Terri! May it be a good year for us all!

Do the goats have pine-scented breath after eating the tree? Billy likes to smell our breath when we come out to see him. Don’t know if he’s making sure we aren’t eating goat kabobs or what?

One time I had eaten pizza and Billy sniffed my breath. He was surprised at what he smelled, then he sneezed loudly. That will teach him to sniff me. Hee, hee.

I suppose since they are vegetarians, we omnivores have a different smell. He may be checking that I’m not eating his favorite pieces of hay, too.

The Danish gothic picture is great! Looks foggy and spooky. We’ve had a few days like that lately, too. That is when it’s not snowing/raining/sleeting.

Goat yawns are so funny. The first time you see one, it is just astounding. Did I just see what I thought I saw, a yawning goat? It is so funny so watch them yawn.

I like the 450 pixels the best, but they’re all really good. I see Sif was back out for a walk with Bodil. I think Sif was smiling when she was being picked up and held and you scratched her.

Aren’t goat dreams just the best. My husband and I have had dreams about our dear goat Frankie. Hard to believe it has been almost a year this month since he’s been gone.

We sure miss Frankie just as you miss dear Mads, Magnethe, and Bob. I like to think of all of them together playing in a grassy meadow while the sun shines. I think they miss us just a little bit, too.

they do get pine breath! It’s very amusing when Mia comes looking for raisins and I get a whiff of the fresh pine smell. I like it better than the hay!
Twas a very foggy and dark day. I thought about lighting the picture up to show the snow better, but then I realised the dark and foggy look was much more interesting!
I love goat yawns so much. It still excites me every time I see one!
And Sif is doing much better after her operation. She’d been a bit sluggish and not eating so much last year. But doing much better now. Good to see!
I’m glad we can still see our old friends in our dreams, at least.

Yes, that hay smell can be particularly bad when it’s been fermenting awhile in the goatzies’ tummy! Yuck!!!

We’re having our daily evening snow/wind/blizzardy thing again tonight. Sigh . . . makes it just too cold to spend anytime outside with the animals.

My husband put in some new straw for them along with hay and warm water tonight. What with the wind and snow, he couldn’t hear me when I asked if I needed to get more water for the animals’ heated water bucket.

You can scream something, and the wind just carries the sound away even when we’re standing close by.

Spring? Where are you? Please come by soon!!!!

  6. Plume Says:

yeah, maybe we should slip them a mint every now and then! Or just some fresh pine. Getting too cold for me too here. I’m tired of wearing 42 layers of clothes and chemical hand, foot and body warmers! Come soon indeed, spring!
