And Fade Out Again

Look!

baileys cream

I raided my parents liquor cabinet!

No, not really. My mother told me I could take some of their Baileys if I wanted. She knows it’s the only alcoholic drink I like. Well, apart from those vodka pops and the Bacardi Breezers. I’m a good boy. No wild parties while the old folks are gone.

It’s been a rollercoastery couple of days. Starting with the high of getting my new computer. And then the parents leaving for Russia. It’s a vacation trip. They’ll be sight-seeing I guess. I got a list of hotels they’ll be staying at. Seems they’ll spend some time in Finland and Estonia too. Good for them. Although they better not come back as communists or I’ll have them McCarthied.

I went on a slippery, downards slope when my computer started coming up with errors. While browsing folders on my computer I’d get a “Data Execution Prevention” warning for explorer. Then explorer would crash. I tried turning off Data Execution Prevention. Then it would just crash without a warning. It was getting me rather depressed. Feeling like there was always something going wrong. But I think I have fixed it now. By uninstalling DivX. For some reason it was messing up my system. And the folders that were getting errors were usually folders with video files. Anyway, I haven’t had the error for almost two days so I’m knocking on wood and Windows. Hopefully it’s gone. And I am very pleased with my new computer, it’s fast and furious. A lovely, sexy thing.

Here is a little Danish sentence for Danish people who might be googling for help with the same problem. “Forhindring af datakørsel. Stifinder crasher med fejl. Afinstallér DivX”. Sorry about that. Maybe it will help others with the same problem.

Let’s see, what else has happened? Something that did not happen was the Green Concert with Tina Dickow. I didn’t go. Rollercoasting down. Stupid of me, I know. I had a ticket and all. I just didn’t feel like it. I regret it now, and I knew I would. But what can you do. You live and you learn, and then you ignore the lessons.

I have not been isolating myself alone in my room with no outside contact, though. I have been working at the playground. Both yesterday and today. The first time I have worked both days on a weekend. It went fine mostly. One really bad incident. A dead bunny baby. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me want to cry. I had to throw it in the dumpster. Grim. Very grim. Pernille had warned me that it might happen. She was instructing me in how to give them medicine, some of them have been sick. So that was pretty horrible.

On a brighter note, I seem to be doing better at it physically. Back not hurting, less exhausted. Maybe it’s because I have learnt the best way to do it all, the right order to do things and such. So there’s less stress. Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten a little stronger, physically. Maybe it’s a combination. It’s really nice though, working and being with the animals. Giving something back to the playground. And also showing that I’m not a lazy bum living off the welfare system just because I don’t want to work. I’m working voluntarily in the weekends and I’m not making any money off it because it’s just deducted from my monthly welfare check. So I’m not just a lazy bum who needs to pull himself together. Yay.

Having a lot of fun with the animals. Like Katherine once said in a comment, it’s funny how they have different personalities. I have to feed Yvonne, Mrs Piggy, first because she’s so impatient. Pernille warned me about her the first time I was working. I had to watch out cause she’d come right up to the fence and try to get at me. Haha. But she’s also able to take commands. I get the bucket full of her food mix and then I balance it on the fence with one hand and the other hand I lift up and point to the back of the room. Then I say “Back Yvonne. Back. Back”. And she backs off. And when she’s all the way back I quickly tip the bucket over so the food goes into the trough. And then she comes running. Fast! The first time I did it I wasn’t fast enough. I had only half-way emptied the bucket and she was at the trough already. So the rest of the food went all over her head. Hehe. But now I know that I have to be on my toes. It cracks me up though. Standing there, ordering her to go back. And everytime I do it she takes a step back. She’s practically bigger than me, she is huge and lovely in her own way.

The two horses are quite different, too. Sille is the big one. I used to call her Sine. Because, well that’s what the tag on here stable door says. But I guess it must be the name of a previouse horse, because everyone calls her Sille. Anyway, she’s the big one. And she’s sort of more independent, she’s got a little spark of rebellion in her. Musse is the smaller, black one. She is very calm, very obedient. She’s never any trouble at all. When I put the halter on Sille she tries to chew at it, she moves her head about. Musse just lets me do it without any fuss. When I put Sille back inside I have to keep an eye on her or she’ll try to wander off in another direction. Musse doesn’t even need to be guided, she just goes where she’s supposed to. It’s funny how they’re different like that. When I go to get them from their pasture then Musse is always the first one that comes. I don’t know if it’s just by chance, if she just happens to be closer or something. But when I call for them she always comes to me first, while Sille just seems to want that extra little bit of time out on the pasture.

Yesterday an old lady came with a couple of kids. Grandkids I assume. That always makes me happy too. Talking to them, showing them things. I am somebody.

Oh there was a mouse too. Yesterday. When I opened up the chicken coop. Something small came darting out. My first thought was “oh no the chickens are escaping!”. Like in that Chicken Run movie I still haven’t seen. Of course I soon realized that it probably wasn’t a chicken since it was tiny and had no feathers. It was rather cute actually, it climbed up some rocks and disappeared. I don’t know if it’s a problem or if it’s just something you have to expect when you have animals and corn and all that. I’ll let them know about it on Monday.

Nina seems to be doing well. She always comes running as soon as I get there. And when I open the door she runs in and then she goes to the next door and impatiently walks back and forth while I’m still trying to turn off the alarm system. And then she goes in and finds her bowl of food and starts munching. Every now and then she’ll stop and stare out of the window. Almost like Mads. Staring at something that I just can’t see. Usually she is done eating by the time I have gotten the keys to the bunny cages and the feeding list. Then she comes with me when I go out. Yesterday she wasn’t finished so I let her stay inside while I went out to get started with the other animals. I have to lock the door when I go. When I went back to let her out a couple of minutes later, I couldn’t find her. I was almost getting worried, thinking that I shouldn’t have left her alone inside. Then I saw her.

nina the cat

Look at that. Hah. She got herself all comfy in the chair. She started rolling around in her “I’m soooo cute” way. And licking her paws. She always does these cute things that make me think that she’s trying to show how completely in charge she is of me and that I should be lucky that she lets me feed her. She knows that she has me curled around her little finger. She is a darling.

I keep trying to wash my hands. And then I realize, that’s not dirt.. that’s a tan. A slight tan. But still revolutionary for pale old me.

I made a bitchin’ omelette for myself yesterday. Normally I don’t like that Jamie Oliver guy, the chef. I don’t like his fake shows. But a week ago or so I was channel-surfing and bored and ended up watching some of it and he was doing some British breakfast fry-up. And he finished it by putting it under the grill in the oven. It was a fry up, so more like fried eggs than omelette. But the principle intrigued me. I don’t like runny eggs. When I make omelettes I always turn them over to cook them on both sides and I always end up more or less burning them and having them fall apart and just generally end up with a mess. But it worked a treat, putting it under the grill. Perfectly done on both sides. It almost looked like a mini-pizza. Without a crust. Omelettes and pancakes, I am a chef savant.

The weather is getting warmer again. I guess it’s too hot to make pancakes now. I feel like eating ice cream for dinner.

I have been listening to Thom Yorke’s solo album, The Eraser, a lot. That man is just a genius. I have always had a holy triumvirate of songwriters I admire. Billy Corgan, Michael Stipe and Thom. Chicken music for the soul.

The dead bunny reminded me of Street Spirit. Cracked eggs, dead birds, scream as they fight for life. I can see death, can see its beady eyes

But that song also has one of the most beautiful endings ever.

Immerse your soul in love
IMMERSE YOUR SOUL IN LOVE

So there.

Sorry, no big bloody fridge for you, but we do have air conditioning in the house and in our truck. The goat pen is not air conditioned, as much as the boys would like that.

You sound great! Glad you’re enjoying the playground so much, even with animals that aren’t, should I say it, “goats”, like the horses and the pig. They all do have such different personalities once you get to know them.

Nina is so nice, letting you feed her, and she shows you all her cute kitty antics. Just don’t let Nina use your cell phone – long distance calls and all!

Glad the new computer is up and running well. You do sound like you’re enjoying your vacation.

What’s a “British breakfast fry-up”? Like fried eggs, bacon, etc.? You are so cosmopolitan or else I’m just so “not worldly”. How do you know so much “stuff”? I don’t know much about Danish culture, but you know lots about American & British culture, more European things than I do. I guess I need to get out more!

    Deb – Mmm airconditioning. That’s a start.
I’m getting to know all the animals, and they are all lovely in their own ways. Of course the goats are loveliest of all, and they make sure that I don’t forget it.
Hmm, I lost my first cell phone. I thought it was lost at a concert, but maybe the animals have taken it. Maybe they are calling all their relatives in the country. Hehe.
A British breakfast fry-up is .. eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes.. and probably more than I’m forgetting. I remember the first time I heard of breakfasts like that, I was shocked. In Denmark I think it’s very rare to have “hot´meals” for breakfast. I don’t know if I could eat sausages in the morning…
Although I’m feeling kinda peckish right now…
I think I have picked up most of my knowledge from TV and the internet. So you know I’m smart!

Clare – I deleted your comment by mistake :-/ sorry. damn spammers grrrargh.
