All the Tricks of the Trade

Aah wekend. Good stuff. I managed to not miss a single day at work this week. Quite good after all the various sickness/depression/newmeds stuff. Hopefully that is all in the past now.

I am still feeling good, the computer still working like a charm. I reinstalled Oblivion, just had to go for a ride on my unicorn. And say hello to Plume, my tiger. I’m going to start playing the prequel, Morrowind, soon. I bought that years ago. But at the time I wasn’t ready to spend all the time/energy required to get into an rpg. But now with Oblivion completed I can finally dig out Morrowind. Maybe I will play the entire Elder Scrolls series in backwards order. Oblivion is #4, Morrowin #3. Then there’s Daggerfall and Arena. Although that will be going so far back technology-wise that I don’t know if I’ll be able to get into those. But Oblivion kept me entertained for months and months, hopefully Morrowind can do the same.

I promised a Mads trick. Well, it’s not much of a trick really. Just a little one. I had some hazelnuts for him. And then I noticed a bucket on the ground, upside down. And I remembered how Mathilde always liked to get up on buckets with her front legs. So I figured maybe if I used the hazels as motivation I could get Mads to do it.

And it didn’t take long of course.

Just a couple of nuts and he had learned that stepping up on the bucket like that earned him a reward. Goats are smart. On the one hand I think it would be fun to try and train them and teach them tricks. On the other hand I don’t want to be running a circus and having them be my own little well-trained puppets. It would be kinda sad if Mads was well-behaven, really.

I made a video of the trick. It can be gotten from video page. Along with a video of Vanilje’s baahing. So you can hear how her voice breaks. It is very cute. Now some people might not want to go through the trouble of downloading the videos. And for those people I have found a solution. You probably haven’t heard of it, but there is this little site called YouTube. All the kids dig it. And Google has just bought it. So if it’s good enough for Google then it’s good enough for me.

I have uploaded a bunch of videos. All of them here.

Vanilje baahing here
Mads trick here
(youtube is being a bit finicky. if they don’t work then try re-clicking the links)

Of the older ones I recommend Magnethe when she was only a couple of days old and loud lamb and Little Tiger checking out the camera especially.

They are not as good quality as the ones on my video page. But it’s fast and easy, and in today’s world that’s all that counts.

S’more pics.

That was the box I was sitting on. As soon as I got off it, Mads jumped up on it. I’m not sure if he thought that the higher he got, the more nuts he’d get. Or if it was just that general goat desire to jump on top of things.

And Vanilje wants to go inside. Whenever they hear something inside then they start baahing and baahing because they know that it’s must be time for them to go in and get fed. And they don’t stop baahing before they’re let in.

Finally, the pic I used to have on my desktop is this one. Hmm I called it ladybird. Ladybird, ladybug. What is the difference and which one is this?

Answers on a postcard, please.

It looks like Vanilje is licking the door – I love her tail!!! What a brilliant picture of a ladybug. No fair – I had already sent out my postcards. I think you should add ladybeetle to that list too! I love them all – for mother’s day one year I bought my mom a big bag of live ones to put in her garden – it was pretty awesome. Had ladybeetles all summer long!

Hey, looks like a trick to me! I think Mads would enjoy a little variety in his life. If he gets praise and attention, not to mention a little treat just for standing on a bucket, he probably thinks that is a fair trade.

So, now we have “Dr. Plume and his magic easy-swallowing pill elixer and his highly trained goat, Mr. Mads”. When do you both start touring the US?Maybe I can get you some gigs! Don’t think you would have any competion to worry about.

Debbie – I love all their tails. Especially when they are happy and pointing to the ski. Ladybeetle, that’s a good one. And what a great idea for mother’s day. I never would’ve thought of that!

Deb I think Mads would be happy with most trades, as long as he comes out with some nice treats!
I think I may in fact have a very unique act. You can be our agent. I’ll give you 10%. Of course I’ll have to pay you in hazelnuts, that’s the only way Mads will agree to this!
